<shortdesc>As Land Rover makes its historic overland expedition from Solihull to Singapore to celebrate its 60th anniversary, WaveBox® portable microwaves are on board to provide drivers and crew with hot food and drink across the 27 653 km route.</shortdesc>
<longdesc>As Land Rover makes its historic overland expedition from Solihull to Singapore to celebrate its 60th anniversary, WaveBox® portable microwaves are on board to provide drivers and crew with hot food and drink across the 27 653 km route.

"We're excited to support Land Rover and the Red Cross on this charitable venture," said Tim Frank, inventor of the WaveBox® and president of The Frank Group.

As part of its GO60 expedition, Land Rover is racing five Discovery 3 and Defender 4x4s over all sorts of terrain, from desert sands to the 4700 m Khunjerab Pass between Kashmir and China. The trek began May 3 in the borough of Solihull and will finish in early July in Singapore. The route passes through such countries as France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia, Pakistan, India, and China.

"The GO60 team is grateful to receive support from WaveBox® because the WaveBox® units gave us confidence in a source of hot food anywhere," said Andrew Fairgrieve, engineering leader for GO60. "Because the WaveBox® systems are battery powered, we were confident that they would function at any altitude without compromise, unlike their fuel-powered counterparts."

The GO60 challenge recreates Land Rover's first overland expedition from London to Singapore in 1956 and celebrates Land Rover's 60th birthday. The event will raise funds for the Red Cross.

Learn more about the expedition at www.go60sharing.co.uk.

The WaveBox® is the world's first truly portable microwave oven. Weighing just 6,8 kg and sporting a luggage-quality handle, the WaveBox® is designed for portability and power. With triple power options, WaveBox® microwaves can run off of a standard 230v AC outlet, a 12-volt vehicle power socket rated at 20 amps or higher or by a direct connection to 12-volt vehicle and boat batteries. <shortdesc>Consumers in the United Kingdom are the first in Europe to be able to purchase the revolutionary WaveBox® portable microwave. The world’s first truly portable microwave is now available for sale at www.thewavebox.co.uk or by calling 0844 557 1537.</shortdesc>
<longdesc>Consumers in the United Kingdom are the first in Europe to be able to purchase the revolutionary WaveBox® portable microwave. The world's first truly portable microwave is now available for sale at www.thewavebox.co.uk or by calling 0844 557 1537. The WaveBox® brings the power of the kitchen to mini-vans, trucks, recreational vehicles, job sites, boats and virtually anywhere else today's active consumers want to "Heat It Up.TM"

"Consumer interest in the WaveBox® has been very high in the UK," said Bob Stimson, sales vice president for The Frank Group, inventor of the WaveBox.® "We're delighted to bring this exciting product to the UK. With three ways to power the WaveBox®, consumers now have unprecedented cooking convenience and mobility."

The WaveBox® has been featured in news media around the world, including a recent appearance on The Gadget Show on Five. The UK is the second largest source of visitors to the global WaveBox® Web site. Over the past month, people from 173 UK communities have accessed the site, including London, Wembley, Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, Nottingham, Derby, Henley-on-Thames, Wolverhampton and many others. Land Rover installed WaveBox® brand microwaves in two vehicles taking part in its GO60 overland expedition from Solihull to Singapore to raise money for the Red Cross.

The WaveBox® has the cooking ability of a conventional microwave in a rugged, compact design built for daily portability. A triple-power delivery system allows the WaveBox® to run off a standard 230v AC outlet, the 12-volt power socket in most vehicles, or by direct connection to a 12-volt battery. The WaveBox® has a swappable cord system, with an AC cord and two DC cords for the vehicle power socket or direct battery connection. No inverter is necessary.

"WaveBox® microwaves will change how people think about convenience cooking," Stimson said. "You can carry your kitchen with you as easily as you would a small cooler or lunch box. It opens up endless possibilities, from hot tea at the camp site to your favorite food at a sporting event.

Rugged design, ease of use
The WaveBox® Original has a sculpted, lunchbox-style design and reinforced, weather-resistant ABS case. If features plug-and-run AC and DC cords for vehicle power socket or direct connection to a 12-volt battery. It also has a luggage-quality handle, electronic controls, LED display and presets for one-touch heating.

The WaveBox® comes with the CoolBag - an integrated soft-side cooler that fits snugly inside the microwave to keep food and drinks cool until you're ready to heat things up. The CoolBag has a water-resistant nylon cover, thermal lining and a durable zippered lid.

"We designed WaveBox® microwaves with the active lifestyle in mind," Stimson said. "Boaters, campers, outdoors enthusiasts, construction workers, landscapers, sports fans, truckers and many others will appreciate the portability and power of the WaveBox.® Weighing no more than a small cooler, it's a great convenience that makes possible home-cooked food on the road or out in the wild."

Despite their compact design, WaveBox® brand portable microwaves provide generous cooking space that easily accommodates a wide variety of foods, such as sandwiches, soups, frozen meals, popcorn, pizza slices and ready-to-eat convenience foods. Cooking performance is comparable to many in-home microwave ovens. The power outlet function is only designed for vehicles rated at 20 amps or higher, the standard for most newer vehicles. The WaveBox® is available in four colors: pearl, cherry, cobalt and midnight.

A great convenience for workers
Stimson said people on the job will especially value the convenience the WaveBox® offers. "Lots of workers are out and about during the day - whether in delivery trucks or on job sites. They don't always have time to get to a kitchen or a restaurant when they're on the clock, so having the WaveBox® along makes it easy to prepare a hot meal or a hot drink. And with the money saved that would be spent eating lunch out, the WaveBox® pays for itself in less than two months."

"Our research showed us there is tremendous interest in all areas of the market and among many demographic groups," Stimson said. "We're confident WaveBox® brand portable microwaves will join many other consumer innovations in becoming ‘must-have' products."

As demonstrated by the wide interest globally from consumers and media, just about anyone can benefit from the convenience of WaveBox® brand portable microwaves, including truck drivers, construction workers, campers, hunters, sports fans, field-based workers such as surveyors and engineers, and many others.

WaveBox® portable microwaves can be ordered online at www.thewavebox.co.uk or by calling 0844 557 1537. They will also be available at select resellers. Suggested retail price is £124.99 including VAT. See the Web site for full details.

The WaveBox® is the world's first truly portable microwave oven. Weighing just 6,8 kg and sporting a luggage-quality handle, the WaveBox® is designed for portability and power. With triple power options, WaveBox® microwaves can run off a standard 230v AC outlet, 12-volt vehicle power socket rated at 20 amps or higher, or by direct connection to 12-volt vehicle and boat batteries.
WaveBox® Will Be ‘Conquering the Continents,’ Aussie Review Says

<shortdesc>Declaring that the microwave oven “suddenly has gotten legs,” the Australian technology Web site DigitalReviews Network says the WaveBox® brand portable microwave will soon be “conquering the continents for its convenience.”</shortdesc>
<longdesc>Declaring that the microwave oven "suddenly has gotten legs," the Australian technology Web site DigitalReviews Network says the WaveBox® brand portable microwave will soon be "conquering the continents for its convenience."

Contributing editor Martin Regtien wrote that the WaveBox® has obvious advantages over "boiling the billy" to make a cup of coffee out in the bush. "Gotta light a fire first, rig up a stand for the kettle over the open flame and sing half a dozen songs around the campfire waiting for the billy to boil," Regtien wrote. "With the WaveBox, the world's smallest microwave, your hot liquid is only a few minutes away. Did I say it was brilliant?"

Regtien said although he's not used to waiting for a hot cup of coffee, it's worth a little extra time for the convenience of microwave that can be powered inside a vehicle.

"Don't just think of using the WaveBox® on holidays only," he wrote. "It can certainly be taken on the job, in the back of your ute (make that truck if you don't know what "ute" stands for) to heat up a mince pie or some leftovers. Another interesting use for my wife when we travel is that she often needs to heat up a gel-based or wheat heat pack. Just pop it in and you're right, mate!"

The DigitalReviews Network article on the WaveBox® can be found on the DigitalReviews Web site.

The WaveBox® is the world's first truly portable microwave oven.
