Yeah, the transition process of Yahoo search to show Bing search results has taken a significant step. Around a few days ago Yahoo organic search in USA and Canada has completely sifted to Bing functionalities at the back-end. Currently it has been done for English language only. So if you search in Yahoo US site, you can see “Powered by Bing” message at the bottom of the page.

So if you search Yahoo Web, Image or Video you will get same results as Bing. And it is true for both Desktop and mobile devices.

Do you need another reason for using Google Analytics? Here is one. If you have already set up Google Analytics for your site, you can verify ownership of your site with just a click in Google Webmaster Tools. There is no need to add meta-tag, upload HTML file in your server or change DNS record. It is the latest release from Google to make your verfication process faster and without any hassle.

But you have to use new profile-based asynchronous Analytics JavaScript to verify your site in Google Webmaster Tools. So if you are using any older tracking code, switch to it. Don’t get afraid ofthe name. It is just simple Javascript that you can easily embed in your HTML

Today I am going to tell you about another free WordPress hosting where you can use your custom domain for free and run your own ads. If you are stuck with WordPress.com as you have to pay for custom domain mapping and you can’t add your own ads at all, here is a good alternative from reliable DreamHost.

It is called DreamHost Apps. If you don’t want a paid hosting from DreamHost, here you can find free application web hosting that includes several popular open-source web applications like WordPress, phpBB or Drupal. Obviously you won’t have FTP access or can’t install new themes or plugins. You have to be happy with the pre-installed ones. But that is the case with any other free WordPress blog hosting. And like WordPress.com you have no restriction on space or bandwidth. But unlike WordPress.com, you can map your custom domain free of charge. And though you can’t modify your themes code at will, at least you can add Adsense or any other ads code through widget in sidebar. I just checked with their support. And there is no policy against showing your own ads.

I have always wanted this feature. I have two Gmail accounts that I use heavily. But like other email services, you could log in to only one Gmail account from your browser. I have used CookieSwap add-on for Firefox for some days. And I have to say that it is quite good as an alternative. With a few clicks you can swich back and forth and use multiple Gmail accounts at the same time. By the way, it is not only for Gmail, you can swap cookies and switch any web service that you have multiple web accounts.

But now Google has just released this awesome feature. Now from your Gmail account menu at the upper right hand corner, you can access multiple Gmail accounts simultaneously.

You can easily toggle back and forth between the accounts using the menu dropdown. Or you can even open a new browser tab for your second Gmail account. Use it without any hassle.

But remember only the below Google products have these capability. If you open any other Google service, it will open as your first Google account using the current browsing session. But I am pretty sure most of us use only Gmail that much

And you can always hope, they will extend this feature to other Google services soon. So go to your Google account and turn on “Multiple sign-in”.

As you know, using Alt tag gives you some extra mileage for search engines to find your image. It gives you extra option to put chosen words so that when somebody searches search engines like Google, they can match the keywords with your Alt tag and show him the photo. So most of you will stuff Alt tags with keywords. But be careful, as excessive stuffing can get you caught in spam filters of different search engines.

But why was this Alt tag invented? Have you ever thought of this question? Surely not to give you some SEO value

Alt tag is basically the text equivalent of your image. This doesn’t necessarily mean a decorated description or title. Ask yourself, what would you have put if you didn’t have the image in the first place? Does this text serves the purpose to share the basic information with the user as the image itself? Then you are using Alt tag with its true purpose

So if the browser is unable to display the image or the image is not available, the Alt tag text will be shown in the place of your picture. So your user will have at least some kind of idea what you were trying to express using the image.

I am pretty sure, you would still continue to make Alt tags keyword-centric. And there is no reason why you should not. But keep in mind its true purpose and your user

Perhaps many of you have seen Google Talk button in a blog or a site. You can chat with the webmaster if you find him online. But I never cared to go into the details of it. I thought only Gmail users can chat with you using it and they will find your Gmail id. But recently I stumbled into a forum page about how easy it is and explored Google Talk chatback badge a bit.

And it is really simple and good enough to protect your privacy. You just need to create your own chatback badge. You can use your existing Gmail account to create one. Or if you want to create Google Talk chatback badge for your own domain using Google Apps, go to this link http://www.google.com/talk/service/a/DOMAIN/badge/New where DOMAIN is your own domain name. But anyway the user won’t find your Gtalk id. And moreover anybody can have a chat with you. They don’t need to be a Gtalk or Gmail user.

They will only see the badge title that you choose as your nickname. So you have nothing to worry about leaking your personal information. And about implementation, it is the easiest thing to embed in your site or blog. Just cut and paste some HTML code into your source code and you can see the Google Talk bubble wherever you want.

As I have told you I just sifted my blog to the new domain waveofweb.com. So I was looking for a way to map each url of my old domain to the new one. Obviously there is a way to do it in .htaccess file. And like most of the hosting companies my host DreamHost does support Apache mod-rewrite to use .htaccess. But I heard that Namecheap provides 301 redirect if you transfer DNS to them. And you can do it in UI with just a few clicks and without modifying any code by hand. So I used to it. But that 301 redirect will only redirect any url of the old domain to the new domain’s home page. So all my blog post urls or About page or any any other url of the old domain were getting redirected to the blog home page. I contacted their support in live chat. But they were unable to provide any solution.

So I transferred back my old domain to my hosting company NameServer. I modified the code in .htaccess file. And url to url mapping from old domain to the new one started working perfectly

I have been irregular to this blog for a long time now. I always wanted to maintain it. But some days ago I though of selling this blog. But then again I thought why should I sell it. I have worked on this for more than a year and half and get a decent traffic. And I know I will again start a blog when I will find time. So why not continue the thing I started?

And thankfully I didn’t sell it

And to do it better and give a different look with a more general prospect I have changed this blog’s domain name to WaveOfWeb.com. Hope it’s better to remember than my clumsy name as domain. And I am not that important person either.

I will continue sharing my online findings here. So remember it’s not anirbanroy.info anymore, it’s waveofweb.com. But if you still follow an old link, it will work. I have set up 301 redirect to map all the urls from old domain to the new ones.
