All City of Waverly offices, including the Recycling Center and Yard Waste Site, will be closed Monday May 27th for Memorial Day.  There will be no garbage picked up on this day.  Monday's garbage will be picked up on Tuesday, May 28th.  Please remember to have your garbage out by 7:00 a.m.  Both the Recycling Center and the Yard Waste Site will be open Saturday, May 25th, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Media Release: Cedar River Crest in Waverly Revised to Wednesday Morning

The Cedar River level will be rising quickly throughout the night and into Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service has revised the crest time for Janesville. This new forecast moves Waverly's crest time to early Wednesday morning. The river level is expected to reach approximately 13.3 feet at the Waverly gauge. 

Widespread flooding is still NOT expected in Waverly. However, southeast Waverly and low lying areas along the river may experience flooding. Water may go over the top of the HESCO flood barriers which would cause 7th Avenue and 4th Street SE to be closed. This would severely limit travel to the Southeast Elementary neighborhood.

Primary areas to watch and take action include:
•           Cedar Lane
•           7th Avenue SE 
•           3rd Street SE
•           4th Street SE near Southeast Elementary School
•           Low lying areas along the river

The City of Waverly is taking the following actions:
•           City officials are in contact with Waverly Light and Power and MidAmerican Energy to 
             determine utility needs.
•           Public Services will monitor the water level throughout the night. If necessary the 3rd Street
            bridge (green bridge) and other road closures may take place.
•           Another Code Red message may be sent to households in affected areas as needed.

Cedar River Expected to Crest in Waverly Tuesday Evening

The Cedar River level will be rising quickly throughout the day. It is expected to crest around 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. Widespread flooding is NOT expected in Waverly. However, southeast Waverly and low lying areas along the river may experience flooding.

The Code Red emergency notification system was used on Monday to notify households in southeast Waverly that may be impacted by flooding. If you receive a message through the system, pay attention and take actions you feel are needed. To sign-up for the system, go to www.waverlyia.com/police. Residents may also call, (319) 352-5400 and select option 5. The Code Red system is a different system than Waverly-Shell Rock School's notification system. 

Safety:
Do not drive through water; turn around, don't drown.
Do not enter flooded areas or move barricades.
Households in areas prone to flooding should be watching the river level and taking action to protect their property and safety.

Community officials are monitoring the situation and are prepared to take additional action as needed.

HESCO flood barriers will be installed on 7th Avenue SE near the 1st Street SW intersection at 6 a.m. Tuesday. 7th Ave SE may have travel delays from 6 to 9 am. These barriers are designed to hold back water like a sandbag levee. The value of installing these barriers is to maintain road access to southeast Waverly.

Due to substantial rainfall in the Upper Cedar River Watershed, the National Weather Service is predicting minor flooding in Bremer County. Widespread flooding is NOT expected in Waverly. However, southeast Waverly may experience minor flooding. Flooding will peak in Waverly between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning.

An informational briefing will be given at the Waverly City Council meting at 7 pm Monday night. The meeting is simulcast on channel 10/82 or on the City's website.

Widespread flooding is NOT expected in Waverly. However, southeast Waverly may experience minor flooding.  Cedar River through Waverly is predicted to crest early Wednesday morning.

Community officials are monitoring the situation and are prepared to take action. 

The City is making the following preparations:

• HESCO flood barriers may be installed on 7th Avenue SE near the 1st Street SW intersection. These barriers are designed to hold back water like a sandbag levee. The value of installing these barriers is to maintain road access to southeast Waverly.
• The Public Services Department and others are assessing their equipment and supplies in the event more action is necessary.
• The planning team of community officials will meeting again on Tuesday to evaluate the situation and determine if additional actions are warranted

The Waverly Outdoor Swimming Pool will open for the season on Tuesday, May 28. Hours will be 345pm to close during public school days with regular hours on weekends.  Regular weekday hours will begin on Tuesday, June 4.

Noon Lap Swim (noon-12:50) will begin on Saturday, June 1 with Early Bird Lap Swim (6am-730am) starting on Monday, June 3. Lap swim admission is $2.00 or a lap punch can be purchased for $15.00 for 10 punches.  Season passes are also honored.

Season passes are for sale and pool parties can be reserved at the Leisure Services office until the pool opens.  Rates are the same as last year with individual passes at $60 and Family Passes $125 (up to 5 family members on the tax return).

Daily fees are $3.50, with $2.00 for toddlers age 0-5 and $2.00 after 630pm.  The popular "Wacky Wednesdays" will continue with admission $2 all day on Wednesdays.
