I found this fascinating quote today:

The impact has been huge. Shortly after the email was sent, traffic spiked to just under 200 and overnight it peaked at just over 310 (see graphs below). You should read the whole article. Its really amazing how fast you can generate traffic in a short amount of time. Of course, the interesting thing as mentioned in the article is whether the traffic remains at that level. But, despite this, the overall benefits of Social Bookmarking and promoting your content around the Internet means that you are creating links that won't disappear and this will ultimately help your site rank higher in search enigines and will start to gain authority.

So, test this yourself. Send a social work email promoting your site and analyse the results through Google Analytics or any other tracking service.

MacBook Review (Part 2)

Hey there potential Mac users!

I've just remade my previous YouTube video "MacBook Review Part 2" because the first version was crap and hard to follow. With a bit of luck, I hope this new version is more concise and easier for you to follow.

Here's an overview of the things I discuss in this video:

Benefits of the MagSafe Power Adapter.
The cool application known as iAlertU for Mac.

MagSafe Power Adapter

Well this is somewhat genius! Why nobody else had thought of this already is beyond me.

Basically, the MagSafe magnetically connects to your MacBook's power port (on the left hand-side of the MacBook). Not only does this make it easier for the user to recharge the MacBook, it also helps prevent damage to the cable, port and worse, your MacBook - if you or someone else accidentally trips on the cord.

Another benefit to the MagSafe is that the actual cord itself is smaller than your average power cord typically found on PC-Windows-based laptops. When using PC Laptops I always found the bulkiness of the power adapter to be a nuisance, but Apple have obviously understood this and fixed the problem the best they can.

In addition, the MagSafe Power Adapter is equipped with a detachable plug (see my review to understand what i mean), which allows you to connect a power cord extension if you need the extra length to reach a power source. This is perfect for any user who doesn't like the inconvenience of bulky cords, yet likes to have the ability to reach awkward power points.

Hmm, what else?

The bottom line is that Apple know what they're doing. Much more than what I could say for Windows-based laptop makers are doing. I suppose it all comes down to personal preference - well, MacBook's allow plenty of personal preference!

Oh, and the MagSafe Power Adapter comes standard on all MacBook's and MacBook Pro's.

iAlertU

This is a cool little application you can download for FREE from this website, MacUpdate.com.

Basically what this cool gadget aims to do is protect your MacBook from thieves or any other jealous PC users out there.

After downloading the software, open the application (you should see a small circle icon appear on your toolbar), grab the remote control that comes standard with all MacBook's and MacBook Pro's, point it at the remote sensor at the front of the MacBook and hold down the 'Menu' button until you hear "BLIP! BLIP!". This means iAlertU has armed your MacBook, so that if someone presses a key or tries to move your MacBook, a car alarm sound will ring until you disarm iAlertU by holding down 'Menu' again to hear a disarmed sound.

GarageBand, iMovie & YouTube

Hey everyone,

I've had my white MacBook 13.3", 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD, for about two weeks now, and quite frankly, im LOVING IT!

I've started playing around with the various applications from iLife '08, in particular, GarageBand and iMovie.

GarageBand

GarageBand is incredible! I've dont have much experience with music creating software before, but i was blown away with how easy it is to record and make music. Apple have done a fine job in including this as a standard application on Macs. As I am in a couple of bands (one of which recently broke up), i used the MacBook and GarageBand to record a few songs during practice and I was amazed at how well the ridiculously small microphone picked up every sound including vocals, without distortion.

iMovie

iMovie is great. Although it took me a little while to understand how to do everything, it was relatively easy to jump straight in and create movies. I would've liked to know how to reduce the file size of projects even more than what options iMovie provides, but its no big deal really. I used to use Microsoft Movie Maker which allows you to choose how small you want the file (sacrificing quality at the same time). I liked this option because having a slow broadband connection, it takes ages to upload to YouTube having a 80Mb+ movie.

I also found it interesting that you cant drag and drop/import .avi files into iMovie unless you update iPhoto via iMovie. This might not make much sense to you but I dont know how else I can word it.

...which brings me to the next topic.

Deciding on a MacBook?

So after my last blog, I have done extensive research on my decision to purchase a MacBook. I spent countless hours viewing - or should I say, waiting to view YouTube videos of MacBook reviews, thanks to my slow broadband speeds. Anyway, I believe doing this gave me a greater insight into the product.

One of the highlighted videos i viewed, which i found most helpful was by vacuum2440. Check it out.

Eventually, i decided to get the MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - White
Options:
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
160GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
Superdrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
Keyboard/Mac OS
Country Kit
Software:
iWork '08 Edu Individual

Reasons for my decision:

Upgrades
I upgraded to the 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD. I figured that the standard 1GB memory and 80GB HDD wouldn't handle a decent and growing amount of music and movies, especially since the new MacBook's come with iLife '08 (iMovie, iPhoto, etc.).

As a slight disappointment, i found it difficult to find reviews on the new MacBooks, with 2.16Ghz and larger HDD, but what i did find was that the older MacBooks and even the new base model struggles or lags with running multiple programs etc. So although the upgrades made the final price considerably higher, i found it would be necessary. And even if it isnt, it sure gives me peace of mind and i suppose a stronger computer to handle future technologies and demands.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
From my research i found that the Intel Duo is remarkably fast, but since i have little knowledge about the various processors available, i am taking the majority's advice.

Hard Drive Performance
Another thing i found from one of the review sites (i think it was CNET?) was that the 5400rpm hard drive performed better than the 4200rpm, which is the 200GB upgrade option.

Superdrive
The Superdrive (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW) seemed like a given necessity. I found it odd that Apple didnt offer this on the base model, given that Mac's are known to be media orientated as opposed to PCs, of which most have CD/DVD burners as standard.

Colour
I chose the signature white MacBook because it looks slick, and it also doesnt attract fingerprint smudges, where the black MacBook does.

iWork '08
From my last post i was struggling to workout the difference between MS Office Edu versus the standard version. At first i felt that MS Office would be necessary to get simply because its what i am used to. However, after visiting my local Apple Store, the salesman suggested that iWork '08 is far superior to that of Office. I could see that he was trying to sell me an Apple product, but after further research on YouTube and Google i concluded that the salesman was right. iWork '08 appears to be much easier, more professional, and just overall better than MS Office AND its cheaper!

Conclusion
Since I am a Uni Student, I was able to receive the educational student discount, which saved me $193 AUD - nice.

To be honest i didnt look into researching PCs all that much, and the more reviews i read about Macs, the more i tended to ignore the option of a PC. There are several reasons but a main one is the fact that Macs dont get viruses or spyware, which would be a huge relief for anyone.

The overall simplicity of Macs is what sold me on the idea of converting. Although i am comfortable with PCs, after thinking about the one i have, i realised there are many little annoyances that dont seem to be a problem on Macs - sorry i cant think of any off the top of my head, but im sure you can think of some.

Ok, well i cant think of anything else to say right now, but once i get my new beast i shall be posting more blogs and making YouTube videos.

Thinking About Getting a MacBook?

Im sitting here, tired, wondering why i cant seem to find what the difference is between the Microsoft Office 2004 Student Edition versus the Normal Version. BUT, I am very excited that i have decided (i think) to purchase an Apple MacBook before i finish Uni this year.

from what ive read, the MacBook is very competitive against PC rivals. Although the Apples are more expensive i have justified that the features far out-weigh those of a PC/Microsoft. I've recognised that Mac's are far more media orientated than PC's yet also have the ability to be harmonised with Windows and other PC software. Furthermore, the Inter Core Duo enables multiple programs to operate simultaneously, preventing any screen freezing, which is a common problem with PC's. Adaptability from PC to Mac will although be manageable, it will certainly be a challenge - given that i feel i am a competent PC user (just like the majority of the computer world). Although i have yet to buy the MacBook, i am sure i will be pleased with its performance and reliability to deliver convenience and efficiency, whilst encouraging me to become more creative, by using the iLife '08. iLife '08 is one of the major benefits to the new Macs. As the world becomes more "i-Everything", there is and will continue to be a growing trend toward media outlets, and more specifically, personal media outlets. Creating movies, music, video conferencing, video sharing, yada yada yada... is more popular than ever before and it is clear that Apple have embraced this with the products they offer.

nevertheless, if you are considering the switch to AppleMac, i suggest you do your research, just for piece of mind. As i have done. After all, these toys are expensive toys! Goodluck.

I will continue updating my progress of consideration, haha, and then once i have got a MacBook in front of me, i shall let you know all about it.
