Unfortunately, this just isn&#8217;t true. Quite the contrary. Weight loss surgery requires a serious commitment to a healthy lifestyle in order to be safe and successful. While it can be a positive life changer for a variety of candidates, the risks associated with this type of surgery cannot responsibly be ignored. Therefore, we implore you, along with your surgical consultant, to consider the following factors when evaluating your candidacy for weight loss surgery:</p>
<p><strong>Common Qualifiers</strong></p>
<p>If you are at a high risk for disease (especially life-threatening disease) or disability due to your condition, then you are a prime candidate for weight loss surgery. Also, if your obesity is the result of a genetic condition, weight loss surgery is often a good option to consider. <p>Like any surgery, weight loss surgery carries real risks. You need to understand these risks up front. Your surgeon will explain them to you in detail, but here is an overview: First, any time an incision is made in your body, there&#8217;s the risk of an infection. This is minimized by the strict sterilization procedures followed in operating rooms, but it still happens sometimes. Secondly, surgery sometimes results in the formation of a pulmonary embolism, which is a blockage of blood flow in your lungs. Another potential risk associated with this type of surgery is peritonitis, which is when your stomach leaks into another part of your body. These aren&#8217;t all the risks associated with this type of surgery, so again, you&#8217;ll want to discuss this during your surgical consultation. Your surgeon&#8217;s post operative instructions will largely be geared toward reducing or risks which could manifest themselves after your surgery.</p>

<p><strong>Macrobiotic Diet Food Recommendations</strong></p>
<p>Here are some tips and food recommendations for the macrobiotic diet.</p>

<li>50% of your daily diet should consist of brown rice, wheat, barley, corn, barley, rye, etc. Approximately 20% &#8211; 30% should consist of vegetables.  The rest of your daily food consumption should include soup, beans, fish, seeds, nuts, and fruits.</li>

A growing number of bariatric surgeons are performing procedures in which the body&#8217;s existing orifices are used to provide access to the abdomen. Of course, you&#8217;ll still need to consult with one of these doctors in order to determine which (if any) of these pro<strong></strong>cedures you&#8217;re a candidate for, but they do exist.</p>
<p><strong>Gastric Balloon</strong></p>
<p>One of these incision free weight loss procedures is called a gastric balloon. It&#8217;s even reversible! While this particular procedure is not yet approved for use in the United States of America, it is available in Canada, Mexico, South America, Australia, and some parts of Europe. A deflated, silicone balloon is inserted into the stomach via the mouth. It is then filled with either liquid or air, reducing the amount of space available for food in the abdominal cavity. This balloon can be left in the stomach for as long as six months. Once it is removed, your stomach returns to normal!</p>
<p><strong>Endoluminal Sleeve</strong></p>
<p>This procedure is very similar to the gastric balloon. However, instead of a balloon being inserted into the stomach, a sleeve in inserted into the small intestine. Like the other surgery we&#8217;ve discussed, the access point used in this procedure is the mouth. Preliminary studies of this surgery have been quite promising. Not only does this one result in weight loss, it may even help reverse diabetes! Since diabetes is one of those health risks commonly associated with obesity, this development is something the medical community is understandably optimistic about.<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>StomaphyX</strong></p>
<p>This is one benefits those people who have had gastric bypass surgery but are beginning to regain weight, which happened in fifteen to twenty percent of gastric bypass cases. This is cause by the stomach pouch essentially getting stretched out over time after its size has been reduced. As  you might have guessed, the new procedure is designed to revert the size of the stomach back to what it was initially after the original surgery. If you find yourself in this situation, then this particular surgery may be well worth asking your doctor about. You might find it quite successful.</p>
<p><strong>Transoral Gastroplasty</strong></p>
<p>Affectionately known as “toga,” this procedure is similar to a gastric bypass, but it results in an even smaller stomach. It also doesn&#8217;t require an incision. You may have noticed that four of these five procedures are available to candidates who have not experience any type of weight loss surgery before, while one of them is intended as a revision for those regain weight after a gastric bypass.
