As our rain chances trend downward, high humidity levels will combine with daytime heating to push "feels-like" temperatures into the triple digits across most of the area. While widespread rain is off the table, the atmosphere will remain unstable enough to trigger a few spotty to isolated afternoon thunderstorms, so keep an eye to the sky if you have outdoor plans.

Today & Tonight: Expect plenty of sunshine for your Tuesday, which will push afternoon highs into the low 90s. However, high humidity will create a "feels-like" temperature roughly 10° hotter than the actual thermometer reading, so please remember to drink plenty of water if you are spending time outdoors. As the day heats up, we will see some isolated thunderstorms pop up after midday, with the highest probability for activity falling along and south of the I-10 corridor. This is far from a widespread rain event; we are only forecasting about 30% coverage across the region, meaning the vast majority of us will stay completely dry. Once the sun goes down, we will lose the daytime heating that fuels these storms, causing any lingering downpours to quickly fade away and leaving us with a quiet, muggy night and a low near 73°.

Use the slider to advance through the next 24 hours of Futurecast

Up Next: We are looking at our lowest rain chances of the week on Wednesday and Thursday, though we can't completely rule out a stray shower. Only about 20% of the area is expected to see an afternoon thunderstorm, meaning the vast majority of us will stay entirely dry. Because we won't have widespread rain or cloud cover to cool things down, there will be very little relief from the heat. Expect afternoon highs to consistently climb into the low 90s for the rest of the week, with heat index values easily soaring into the triple digits. Looking ahead to the weekend, atmospheric moisture will begin to surge back into the region, which points to a higher coverage of afternoon thunderstorms. While lightning and heavy downpours could certainly be a nuisance for your weekend plans, it currently does not look like a total washout.

Get the latest 7-day forecast and real-time weather updates HERE.

Watch live news HERE.

The Tropics: For the Gulf, Caribbean, and North Atlantic, all is quiet. "You have to really take your time navigating it."

DOTD officials said significant progress has already been made. The roundabout at La. 30 and St. Landry Avenue recently reopened to two lanes after operating as a single-lane roundabout for several months, helping ease congestion in the area.

Motorists will also notice changes near Tanger Outlets and Cabela's, where the traffic signal has been removed.

"The signal at Tanger and Cabela's has been removed, and it's a right-turn-in and right-turn-out of both of those areas," Mallett said.

While construction remains underway, DOTD officials said traffic conditions have already improved and expect even greater benefits once all three roundabouts become operational.

"Once this is complete and we have all three roundabouts functioning, it's going to really help the congestion and traffic flow in this area," Mallett said.

Despite the temporary inconvenience caused by the construction, Armstrong said he believes the project will ultimately benefit drivers.

"They're doing a pretty good job. I mean, dealing with the rain and everything we have down here in Louisiana, they're doing a pretty good job," Armstrong said.

Permalink| Comments

Dunaway says it's important to wash sweat off before it dries and to switch to a lighter moisturizer.

"Switching your nighttime cream to something a little less thick will be less likely to cause you to have an acne flare, but still provide enough moisture to protect the skin," Dunaway said.

Dry, irritated skin is another concern. Dunaway says people tend to overexfoliate and using a light moisturizer can help.

Folliculitis, which is inflammation of hair follicles that can lead to a rash, is also common in summer. Wearing looser clothing and washing sweat off the skin can help prevent it.

Melasma, a condition that causes dark, discolored facial patches, is another risk. Sun exposure, pregnancy and taking birth control pills can raise the chances of developing it.

"Protecting yourself with strong SPFs even higher than what we'd normally recommend, such as SPF 50, is really useful for people that are on birth control pills or might be pregnant during the summer," Dunaway said.

Heat rash rounds out the list. Dunaway says it's the body's alarm system that a person is overheating.

"So if you start to notice these prickly, itchy red bumps on the skin, especially on a really hot day, that's an important sign to cool yourself off, seek shade or either get in some water," Dunaway said.

Permalink| Comments

She also alleged he pushed her against a wall and that she had an active restraining order against him at the time.

Williams provided documentation showing the restraining order referenced in his arrest warrant had ended on March 26. He also pointed out that charges in the 2024 domestic violence case were dropped.

"Half of that in there is bogus," Williams said.

Williams resigned from the department before his May arrest. The 26-year-old had only been employed with New Roads since August 2025.

"I resigned on the 28th and ain't been back since," Williams said.

He says city officials have been misrepresenting the reason he left.

"The reason why I'm no longer New Roads Police is because the chief said they came in, they found a bad apple, they wanted to get rid of me," Williams said.

Williams claims the real reason he left was the condition of the department itself.

"Half of the cases that has been worked has been thrown out due to lack of evidence. We don't have any detectives. Point Coupee barely want to come out and assist because they know New Roads is junk," Williams said.

He says the only path forward for the department would be for it to be absorbed by the Point Coupee Sheriff's Office.

"The state of New Roads Police Department — shut it down. Renee Thibodeaux — 100 percent. You need to take it over," Williams said.

Current Chief Zathan Boutan declined to comment on Williams' claims.

Boutan became the city's fourth police chief in two years after Louis Hamilton resigned earlier this year, following the arrest of Officer Quincy Lathers for selling drugs and the resignation of Assistant Chief John Chambliss.

Permalink| Comments

They asked us to match it or do something similar to it. It just wasn't feasible for our means," Sammy's Grill Director of Operations, Dane Barbera, said.

The location opened in 1988 and quickly became known for its crawfish and seafood. In 2019, owner Sammy Nagem sold both the Highland Road and Prairieville Sammy's Grill properties to new owners Ryan Jumonville and Donnie Jarreau.

A year later, the Highland location temporarily closed after struggling financially. It reopened weeks later under new owner Wayne Stabiler, a local businessman. Again, in 2023, the business transferred ownership. At the time of this article, the business is owned by Fritz Carville, Dondi McNulty and Jeremy Webber.

"It's seen misfortune before, but it's been resilient and the community has surrounded around it and picked it back up," Barbera said. "The staff took it hard yesterday. We let them know first thing in the morning. They took it hard. But, it's out of our control, the landlords have a business to operate, they did what's best for them, we can only respect their decision."

Employees expressed shock when they learned of the closure.

"You never think that that could happen, but at the same time, you think about the friends you've made along the way, all the people you've met. You think about how much good comes from working at a restaurant like this, what it has done for you," Audrey Albert, an employee and LSU student, said.

Patrons said they will miss Sammy's Grill.

"We're going to have to find somewhere else to go," Mike McMullen, a restaurant customer, said. "The atmosphere here, being as old as it is, has just built and built."

Jumonville told WBRZ on the phone Monday that he and Jarreau still own the Highland Road property, and said he was excited for what is coming next for the property.

Jumonville said Will Chapman, the owner of Willie's Restaurant on Coursey Boulevard, is the new tenant. Jarreau and Chapman confirmed to WBRZ that details regarding the new restaurant will be coming in the next few weeks. Jumonville called the change a "big opportunity," and said the incoming restaurant will elevate the space while also honoring the history of the building.

The Sammy's Grill Prairieville location will remain open, located at 37306 Perkins Road.

Permalink| Comments
