Suzette Boulais and Nathan Irwin talk with Morihiko Nakahara. The conductor leads the Peoria Symphony Orchestra in their concert this weekend, and he's one of the candidates to be the orchestra's new Music Director. The program runs the gamut from familiar Romantic masterworks to lesser-known contemporary pieces. Also, Nathan puts in a shameless plug for Corn Stock Theatre's upcoming production of "Speed-the-Plow," in which he's performing.

Rocco Landesmann, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, will visit Peoria on Friday. It's the first stop in the NEA's new "Art Works" tour, which is intended to highlight the role arts can play in local economies. Landesman will participate in a roundtable discussion with area arts and business leaders, and attend a performance of "Rent" at Eastlight Theatre. He spoke with WCBU's Nathan Irwin on this special edition of "Out and About."

Ann Schmitt from Lakeview Museum talks with Suzette Boulais and Nathan Irwin about two exhibits currently on display. "Touched by the Hands of God" features six scultures cast from models made by Michelangelo. It continues through January. "Nature / Culture" features artists using the natural world as raw material to create new works of art. It runs until November 8. Also, many Bradley University ensembles are performing this weekend in conjunction with parents' weekend. And the Peoria Film Noir festival continues with showings at the Peoria Public Library Lakeview branch.

Nathan Irwin and Suzette Boulais talk with Tim Wyman, director of "The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?" The play opens Corn Stock Theatre's winter season; it runs through October 24th. Written by Edward Albee, it explores how a man's relationships with his wife, son and best friend are plunged into crisis when he falls in love with a goat.

Sarah Hicks is the second of seven guest conductors appearing with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra this season, and a candidate to be the orchestra's next music director. She talked with Suzette Boulais and Nathan Irwin about the pieces she;'s picked out for the orchestra's next concert, and her ideas for making the orchestra a cornerstone in the arts community.

Prairie Folklore Theatre presents its annual Springdale Cemetary Tours this weekend and next. This year's tours feature Abraham Lincoln's Friends and Rivals: notable Peoria residents who knew Lincoln, especially during his years as a circuit lawyer. Also: The Contemporary Art Center's "Live at the Five Spot" presents Preston Jackson. And ICC and Corn Stock have theatre productions closing this weekend.

In a special podcast edition of Out and About, we talk with Julie Traenskenschuh, Fine Arts Manager for Public School District 150. She was one of the Peoria-area attendees at the "One State: Together in the Arts" conference held last week in Peoria. She talked about how she benefited from the conference, and about some of the advantages she sees for arts groups in the Peoria area.
