Cadets from Alnwick Detachment have chosen to give up their Easter Holidays to undertake a Community Engagement task at Alnwick Castle.

A group of cadets under the direction of Capt.Lawrence have undertaken the task to restore an Artillery Field gun that stands outside the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Museum within the Castle. The plan is to rub down, prime and then paint the Gun over a period of 3 days.

The gun was 'liberated' by the 1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers while on UN Peace Keeping duties in Bosnia in 1995.

When Maj Ewart attended this morning to take pictures and see how the team were progressing, the cadets were busy with phase 1 of the operation and were enjoying chatting with the public visiting the Castle

Berwick cadets recently attended the High Sheriff's Award Ceremony in Alnwick Castle in recognition of their commitment to community engagement and their magnificent fundraising efforts for service charities. During the term of office for Mr Peter Lloyd, High Sheriff of Northumberland, the detachment have raised over £8000 for charities including the Royal British Legion, the Army Benevolent Fund, Combat Stress, The Fusiliers' Association, Help for Heroes and the KOSB Association. Awards were also collected on behalf of the Bellingham detachment for their community volunteering, to Northumbria ACF HQ and to Northumbria's Outreach Programme.

Guest speaker for the evening, and joint presenter of awards, was Conrad Dickinson, who has recently returned from the Walking With The Wounded expedition to the South Pole. Mr Dickinson led the team of wounded service personnel and HRH Prince Harry. Mr Dickinson's speech echoed the mission statement of the ACF - inspiring the young people in the audience to achieve their full potential. The evening's entertainment was provided by the pipes and drums of Northumbria Army Cadet Force.

Entrance fees are to remain at the same level as last year.

The under 12's race will also be ran along side the main event with cakes and refreshments being served throughout the race at the village hall.

Following an awards evening in Gateshead Civic Centre, Berwick and Amble received awards for their fund raising for the 2012 British Legion Poppy Appeal. Both Detachments doubled the totals from last year with Amble raising £1,026 and Berwick Detachment raising £2,954.

Following the promotion of Captain Watson to Major and his transfer to X Coy as their new IC, we are please to announce that Lieutenant Lister has been promoted to Captain and taken over the roll as 2IC of W Coy.

He will also continue in his role as Detachment Commander at Rothbury.

He is pictured here with the Deputy Commandant Lt Col Haughie receiving his new rank.

With the current CSM Truman leaving W Coy to join X Coy as their CSM at the end of the month we are pleased to announce the new that Cadet S/Sgt Phillips, also from Broomhill Detachment has been promoted. Many congratulations to you both in your new postings.

CSM Philips is also the current Lord Lieutenant's Army Cadet for Northumberland.

It is important that this is done as soon as possible. For any recruits just joined, if you have a number and a uniform, you will be eligible. If you do not, please check with your DC to ensure that you can go.

The cost will be £12 which needs to be paid as soon as possible. Medical consent forms are also needed so please ensure that these are filled in when handing your money over.

Any questions please speak to your DC who will be able to answer these for you.
