Fire At WCSC’s East Street Crisis Center

There was an electrical fire at WCSC’s crisis center on East Street on Friday, August 5, 2011. What was not destroyed by fire was damaged severely by smoke, soot and water. The building will remain closed indefinitely. Counseling services are available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Children’s Center, located at the corners of East and King Streets. Our volunteer victim advocates are still on call, 24/7/365. Our telephone number remains the same, 340-773-9272. We will provide more information on how you can help us during this challenging time as soon as possible. Thank you for 30 years of support!

Volunteer Victim Advocate Training

The Women’s Coalition of St. Croix is currently looking for new volunteer advocates to join us in providing advocacy and support to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes. Our next six-week training will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. beginning October 5, 2010 and ending on November 16, 2010. All volunteer advocates must have their own transportation.

Children’s Center

WCSC enters a new era with its NEW CHILDREN’s CENTER!

The newly dedicated Children’s Center is the bright spot of Christiansted.

On Saturday, January 28th, we dedicated our Children’s Center in memory of Alice S. Pfaelzer, one of our founding tutors and a long time friend of the Women’s Coalition.

Our bright yellow building provides one-on-one tutoring and violence prevention to neighborhood children. Presently, our center is staffed completely by volunteers and was funded by generous individuals in our community.

This facility has been a long time dream of the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix. Now in its infancy, the Alice S. Pfaelzer Children’s Center will continue to expand its services to meet the needs of children in St. Croix.
