Last night at Guthrie's Tavern, however, it was Jim O'Kelley's French armies who had the easy march. In 1901, the French strolled into Munich, and in 1903, they sauntered into Kiel while also taking Belgium and Holland by force.

{jcomments on}Matt Sundstrom followed his victory at CODCon by topping Board No. 181, played May 12 at John Gramila's home in Logan Square. His 11-center Italy edged Ben DiPaola's Russia by a center, but more important, it vaulted him into seventh place in the Season Seven standings. If he holds onto that spot, he'll return to the Royale after a year off for another crack at the only Weasel title that has eluded him.

Sundstrom wins his second CODCon Open

{jcomments on}They say the best baseball players fail two-thirds of the time. That same math applied at this year's CODCon Open, played April 21-22 at the College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn.

The tourney field did a fair job of containing Matt Sundstrom, the 2009 champion and two-time Weasel of the Year. In Round 1 on Saturday morning, we held his Italy under 6 points. And in Round 3 on Sunday, we sent his France to an early shower. But in Round 2 Saturday night, Sundstrom drew Turkey, got a pitch he could hit, and for the third time with our club, knocked it out of the park. Sundstrom also soloed as Turkey at Weasel Moot III in 2009 and at a game at his home in 2010.

Help us close our best season yet at Eric Brown's beautiful home in bucolic Wayne. We'll field at least three boards, present the Season Seven awards, and announce the bids for the 2012 Weasel Royale championship at this final tune-up before the World Diplomacy Championship in August.
