My Valentine

So I'm sitting in my craft room the other day finishing a project and my Son walks in, puts his arms around me and says "Mommy will you be my Valentine?" without blinking or even the slightest hesitation I said "YES - OF COURSE - FOREVER!" About 10 mins later, I get a notification of a note on my Facebook wall - He had posted the sweetest note about me being the only true love of his life! HELLO - I don't need to tell any of you how I felt, but after I quit crying all over my keyboard - I was floating on air!

The next day - Valentine's Day - he walks in with this paper heart that he had written in Spanish class. Before the details of the past few days escaped me - I wanted to create a layout.

Bazzil Cardstock: maroon; My Mind's Eye: patterned paper; Glimmer Mist: Poppy Seed & Antique Brass; Marion Smith Designs: Dital Paper - Jan day 29 & Envelope - February Day 7; Webster's Pages: Pink Bloomers; Maya Road: Love & Heart chipboard pieces; Karls001: Butterfly Kisses Flowers (Crystal), wheat flowers in pink; Prima: Mask - Floral Frenzy, Cabbage Rosebuds, and Miniature Roses; Crocheted Lace, Pearls.

The background paper says I Love You all over it and is vintage My Mind's Eye. I decided to dress it up a bit with my Glimmer sprays and the Floral Frenzy screen from Prima.

A closer look shows that I used Marion's digital downloads on my layout. In Spot 1, I used the January Day 29 download to mat the image, and in Spot 2, I used February's Day 7 envelope to house the note off my Facebook Wall.

Here is a closer look at the collage of embellies flanking the bottom of the picture. I love how the crystal flowers fill the space, but still allow the pattern of the paper and sprays to filter through.

I know one thing - this boy sure has my heart in the palm of his hand. No matter how old you get - your Momma will always be your Valentine!

I don't know about you - but I think you can never have too many paper hearts!

Journey Book

I downloaded the Journey book that Marion has available and I love this book so much. There are TONS of embellishments and so many ways you can use these supplies for something other than a book. The download comes with six signature covers that you add around your own paper to complete the signature. Instead of plain cardstock - I decided to include some of the elements from the January 31 Day Challenge downloads.

I created my cover by using upcycled denim from some old jeans. Then I edged the book with crocheted lace, and layered it on the cover.

I love the way the book turned out.

Wow what a fantastic project. It was so much fun walking back through the month of January. I have taken a lot of notes of things that bounce around in my head A.D.H.D. style, and it is nice for them to have a place to live.

I also learned that Brighton and his friends consume a LOT of my time, and I need to spend more time with Brittany. It is hard, because she has a car and her fanny is only planted at home when she needs to eat or sleep. I'm sure gonna miss her when she leaves me for college. So I want to focus more on her in February.

Marion I have totally enjoyed playing with your downloads. I can't wait to incorprate them into some of my other projects. I am really glad you decided to continue I'm going to begin my February book this weekend.

Wow - we are over half way through with this journal and it is becoming one of my all time favorite projects. I love looking back on the caios that surrounds everyday.

This week I did some traveling - and got to take some pics of my mornings on the lake. I included a photo of my gorgeous daughter, Brittany, and I was able to include some more wonderful gifts that I received from Friends.

How to recover a deleted blogger blog post.

So.......I'm a bit of a clutz. This is Angee of course and I almost always trip up the stairs. And just for reference I live on the 3rd floor in my apartment building and I work on the second floor of my school.....so I see lots of stairs on a daily basis. (Restated for emphasis) I almost always trip up the stairs.

I totally ~~got~~ was about to get off topic.

Well, I accidentally deleted one of my blog posts from the blog. Which blog post? This one! And if you just clicked on the link you will see that the post is perfectly intact now but just yesterday I'd deleted it. Why did I delete it? ~~Because I'm a klutz~~ Well....because I was trying to blog from my phone and i accidentally hit the delete button. Genius...I know!

Well, usually that would get me all up in a tizzy but something said, "Google it!"

And I did.

And you know what......You can recover blog post that have accidentally been deleted. Yippie!

There are a couple of different ways that you can do this. The say I'm going to outline below allows you to restore the blog post back to the way it was along with the permalink and comments. Total score...right?!

Here's how. All credit to this lovely website where I originally found the info. I had to tweak a few things because I'm on a MAC so I'm giving the MAC version below. For the PC version the link above should work just fine.

Step 1. You want to search for your particular blog post using very specific keywords. For example, the blog title (if you can remember it). And it was recommended that you use this particular handle - site: so that google (or your search engine of choice) will only search your blog/website.

Here's my search for my Heaven's to Betsy card that I posted.

The first search result was exactly what I needed. Good keywords save loads of time. Or not accidentally deleting blog posts will do the same. :-D

Step 2. Next you want to view the Cached version of your blog post. Cache is basically a copy that google keeps of your blog. It took me a minute to figure this out since the example front the website I googled has screenshots from an older version of Google.
So if you hover over the link you will see two grey arrows pointing to the right. Hover over the arrows and you will see your cached blog post mock up pop up. There you will find the Cached link. Click this link.

Step 3. After that, for MAC users, go up to the menu bar and click on View Source (Cmd + U, didn't work for me). You will get a text box that pops up showing the original HTML code for your blog post.

Here is what my screen looked like after I clicked View Source.

Step 4: After your text box appears you want to use keyboard shortcut CMD + F to open the find option and search for postID.

There (underlined in purple) is our post id number that we need.

Step 5: Now we need to go into our blogger dashboard and click edit on an already published blog post.

Did I forget to keep numbering? Oops.
Umm. Let's get back on track!

Step 6. Next you want to replace the current blog posts id with the recovered post id that we just found in step 5, well the step before 6. You know what i mean. (by the time you read this I will have renumbered the posts. Sigh. He he)

Make sure you are changing the post ID and not the blog ID. I don't know what would happen if you did but I can imagine it won't be good...

Step 7: After you've changed the post id press enter and you will see the editor will populate the recovered post into the post editor and you can then publish the post. Sorry I don't have a screen shot of this part because I'd already restored my post before I wrote this. Trust me it works.

A good thing about this method is that it will post it right back in the original spot, date and time, where the post was before. Score, again!

Hope this helps. You never know what you will learn until you try, fail, and try again. Success is just around the corner.

2012 Calendar + Bookbinding

Hi there.

Angee Butler-Carter here with another project for you.

I'm a planner. Well, I often attempt to plan but usually I end up "going with the flow" whatever that means, however I love planners and I buy one every year. With the new year upon us I decided to make my own planner this year. A few months back I happened across Kyla Roma's tutorial on how she made her own planner. She even provided the pages she designed for download. Of course I promptly downloaded them and.........forgot about them. That is until today.

Today I was inspired, motivated, and moved to action.......crafty action!

I had the pages, I had 11x14" paper, chipboard, and loads of Studio Calico kits to draw from so.......I made a planner.

Let me back up for a moment. I actually started off by watching Kyla's assembly tutorial. It's a cute fun video and it got me started and showed me how I wanted to assemble my cover.

Next I remembered a ustream that Marion filmed where she showed a bookbinding technique. A quick google search took me to the right video. M, you rock! Seriously!
Marion's video taught me how to bind my pages and attach my cover.

Being the thorough researcher that I am, here's another bookbinding tutorial for you that I found on youtube.

Now after all of that was done and watched I, finally, made a planner.

Here is the cover. It's about 99.9% finished. I just need to add the year 2012 somewhere. Suggestions?

I reinforced my top and bottom stitches with extra embroidery floss (As you can see in the pics the extra knots). I used an entire skein of embroidery floss to coptic stitch my planner. I also used a large needle with an extra large eye that could accommodate the embroidery floss.

I didn't even have to go buy supplies. I happened to have everything I needed for this project already on-hand in my craft room. The only thing I added were the printed planner sheets. Score!

In total this project took me about 2 hours to complete. That included time to watch the videos (a couple of time) and time to stitch the album in front of my computer. I just paused the videos while I stitched. I'm a slow stitcher. My first try at coptic stitching. Will definitely do more of it in the future.

I would definitely say this was an easy project. I won't be buying my yearly planners anymore. I'll be making my own.

*All papers and embellishments were from Studio Calico monthly kits.

I was really excited when Marion announced that she was doing the 31 Day Challenge again this year. Her concept this year, fit right into some of my own personal goals so this is going to be a lot of fun.

The beginning of the year is always a time where we sit and contemplate things that we want to accomplish through the year, and reflect back on the past year's achievements and disappointments. 2011 was a great crafty year for me, and my goal for 2012 would be to continue on this journey but become better organized with my thoughts, and planning. So JOURNALING is going to be a huge part of my life this year. When Marion made this year's challenge a journal, I was so ready to get started.

Each week, I want to bring you guys a closer look at my weekly progress in the 31 day challenge. The easiest way to do this is through YouTube. Here is my first week's journey...

Artsy Addicts Kit Project: Heavens to Betsy

Hi there.

Angee Lee Carter here with a quick card for you. I was chatting with Marion yesterday and she totally inspired me to get out one of my old Artsy Addicts kits and get crafty. Here's what I came up with.

I happen to love this card just because I used so many of my supplies that I'd purchased over the past few months but hadn't even opened. Call me a stamp collector. I buy lots of stamps because they appeal to me in some way but many of them have never seen any ink. Sigh. Yes I'm that crafter. I tend to go back to the same couple of stamp sets that I've fallen in love with.

So my ~~resolution~~ intention for 2012 is to ink up those un-inked stamps. Are you a collector or a crafter, or a little of both? Let me know in the comments and I might just have a little something to send one of you!

Card Composition:
Card Composition:
1. Trim patterned paper to a standard card size and adhere to card base.
2. Stamp tag with PTI - Damask Design Stamp using PTI - Canyon Clay ink
3. Color a strip of PTI - Vintage Cream card stock using SU! Cherry Cobbler Ink
4. Die cut strip of card stock from step 3 using PTI - Filigree Border Die, Adhere to stamped tag and adhere to cardbase
5. Trim strip of Vintage Cream card stock and stamp with Glory Be - "Heavens to Betsy" stamp using SU! Cherry Cobbler ink
6. Stamp "You are such a dear" stamp using SU! Mellow Moss Ink
8. Stamp Double line using stamp from PTI - Label Basics stamp set using PTI - Canyon Clay ink
9. Trim strip of PTI - Canyon Clay cardstock and add a strip of 1/8" score tape along bottom edge.
10. Pour glitter onto score-tape, and adhere Canyon Clay strip to Heaven's to Betsy Cardstock Strip, use dimensional adhesive and adhere to cardbase.
11. Fussy cut butterfly image from patterned paper and adhere to sentiment strip using dimensional adhesive.

Done and Done!

From Scrappy Mess to a Masterpiece

Some serious Holiday crafting has been going on in my room the last few weeks. Between Tim's 12 tags of Christmas, Cards, and some last minute gifts, I have had scraps up to my elbows. I wanted to share with you guys today a tip for turning those scraps into a work of Art.

I started with an 8x10 naked canvas (you could do any size). Then I used my Ranger Glue 'n Seal to decoupage the scarps onto the untreated canvas. Just looks like a giant mess right now. But notice the chipboard pieces - they will offer some depth later.

Next I covered the entire canvas with watered down Gesso. This will make all the elements one color and make them look as if they belong together. Be careful not to apply the Gesso too thick - you still want to be able to see the patters from the different styles of paper. I also added a thin coat of White Metallic Acrylic paint and then lightly sprayed Lindy's Stamp Gang's Creme Brulee Cream to the finished piece to give it a sparkle. So you may ask - "Why add all of those pieces if you are just going to cover them up?" - well, it's simple, I'm after texture. While it is hard to see in the photograph - the text and the music notes are still visible in places. But the Mess looks like a uniformed mess at this point.

Next I wanted some contrast for all this white. So I took an old cardstock frame from Daisy Dee that was dated 2004, and I covered it in black gesso and bead gel. When it was dried, I used my finger to rub same white metallic paint over the frame to bring out the texture of the bead gel. Then I spritz it with the Lindy's Stamp Gang Creme Brulee Cream.

Next I assembled a beautiful spray of Prima's Christmas lights Crystal Sprays, White Flowers, and butterflies from Karlas001 store around my frame. Notice that even though the flowers and frame have covered the canvas - you can still see the textures of the pieces that were adhered to the canvas backdrop. These textures give depth to the canvas and offer something new every time you admire the piece.

Next I decided the frame seemed empty so I cut a Tim Holtz bird cage from black chipboard and embossed it in silver with the music note stamp from Stampendous. During the 12 tags of Christmas, Tim Holtz shared a technique for using shrink plastic with UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel). So I cut the bird at 8 inches from the Home Accents Cricut Cartridge from Shrink plastic and when I dipped it into the UTEE it shrunk to about 4 inches making the perfect crystal center piece for my canvas.

To finish the piece off, I used a Dylusions stamp from Dyan Reaveley, that says "A Friend knows the song in your heart" - the rest of the phrase was removed. I stamped it onto thick packaging and embossed it with white embossing powder. Placed it in the bottom right hand corner of the frame and called this Masterpiece finished.

Store Front Mini

Today I want to share with you a different take on a mini ablum design. Amy Rodriguez, Teddyboo, gave me the storefront mini album kit to design. But instead of a traditional mini album - I decided to turn mine into a christmas Decorative piece. I made the pages into village pieces instead of a traditional mini album. The panels are all free standing with the aid of a Tim Holtz Easle that is adhered with Tissue tape. At the end of the season, photos can be added to the back of the panels and the album can be bound into a mini.

Cristmas Cards

I thought I would share with you a card that I created using Graphic 45's Christmas Emporium, and Spellbinder's Poinsettia die.

I rounded the corners of the wreath patterned paper from the collection, and sewed around the edges for a clean looking backdrop. The Santa Clause photo was a panel on the paper and I thought the stamp was a nice touch. The stamp is from Studio G.

I have a YouTube video on how I made the Poinsettias. To me they look so realistic.

Greatfulness

This weekend we are celebrating Thanksgiving in the United States, and I know our friends abroad have a similar day in their countries. For me, Thanksgiving is a time to slow down, reflect on my life and give thanks for the blessings that God has given me.

I feel so incredibly blessed to have such a strong family unit. My kids and husband are the BEST! We are all so close. Do we argue and fuss? Absolutely, we are "Real, but we also laugh and play together. My husband Kenny and I have been together since high school. We married 21 years ago, and have two AMAZING children, Brittany 17 and Brighton 15.

I wanted to create a layout that shows my gratitude to them and reflect how blessed I feel. Webster's Pages' Sweet Cherry Pie Fly A Kite Paper was the perfect setting for this layout.

Scattered around the paper are quotes that depict family. Like "The Secret Ingredient to good living is Family", "Fine Feathers Make Fine Birds" and "Embrace Time with the People That You Love"

I accented the photo with layers of lace and trims from some of my favorite companys, Prima and Maya Road. I scattered lots of mulberry flowers in Sunflowers, Roses and some fabric roses too. I aslo included some Prima packaging for a photo matt, Doilees, Antique book pages, Tim Holtz caged bird die from Sizzix, felt birds, and Maya Road Chipboard pieces.

I hope you have an amazing weekend and you find time to be with the people you love!

December Daily

Ali Edwards started this holiday journaling concept a few years ago called a December Daily. The idea is to create a journal documenting every day in December. You don't have to write a lot, a simple quote is enough. Just jot down things that represent the holiday season to you. I have been wanting to join in for a few years, but the holidays always get here before I can blink. This year I got my game plan started early, and made my December Daily in Nov. so that I would be armed and ready for action.

I decided to use the Webster's Pages Wonderfall, Waiting for Santa and Sweet Seasons collections for my Journal pages. I used my bind it all to bind it, and printed some digital images on transparencies that I created from digital brushes available at Webster's Pages Website.

I wanted my book to start with the Thanksgiving and run through New Years.

Grunge Canvas

I took these photos of my son a few weeks ago for football, and I wanted to use them in a scrapboooking project. However, I didn't want "typical" football imagery. I felt that was too 'generic'.

The images make a statement on their own, so I wanted them to be center stage. I decided instead of a traditional scrapbook page, I wanted to make a wall canvas.

His school colors are royal blue and red, these colors inspired the color of the canvas. I added some dictionary pages for words like Athlete, Jock, Boy, and sports. Then painted over them lightly with the royal so they are there, but not completely in focus.

I used a transparency from Creative Imaginations and cut it into two parts. I didn't want clean lines, so I distressed the edges and then used my heat tool to melt the plastic and give the transparency a more warped and tattered look. I painted in the saying on the canvas with red marker. It says "stop searching and create yourself." I feel at 15 years old that is what he is doing, "creating" himself.

I also used a screen to represent the grid iron. The screen was painted black so it would also fall into the background, then I curled the edges up to give more dimension and to hide the sharp edges.

His name is made with letter block grunge board from Tim Holtz. Each letter is sitting at a different height, so that there is more dimension.

PaperBag Album Swap: Flora Garcia-Alvarez

A few weeks ago I hosted a paperbag album swap. Each person who signed up was paired with a partner and they swapped albums. My partner was Flora and she made this gorgeous album to commemorate my recent nuptials. I'm so excited to get it. It might be sitting in my mailbox right now. I'll send the hubby out to go check.

I've already posted sneaks of my album for Flora on the facebook page. Here it is again. I'm using mostly Studio Calico products from their kit club kits for the last couple months. Love them.

The album is gorgeous and I can't wait to start filling it up with all the pictures from my big day.
