I stumbled upon the jaw dropping animated GIFs of Mr. Div (Matthew DiVito) a motion graphics designer and aspiring game developer. His GIFs are generally based around geometric shapes, with effects that range from subtle to sublime. Some nice eye candy!

A few months ago what caught my attention on the news was a mystery knitter who attached a 50-yard-long scarf featuring woollen athletes to Saltburn pier. It had a dramatic effect as this huge creation of beautifully knitted athletic figures appeared overnight. What was wonderful about it was that it delighted young and old alike as the town discussed the piece and it also drew more people/tourists to the seaside resort to see it. It was great to see such positive hype over the upcoming Olympics.

I normally like to focus on things that are aesthetically stunning in the art & design world. But this week I have come across the new proposed packaging design for cigarette packets in Australia which are a far cry from the tobacco industries advertising which concentrated on portraying the glamorous powerful life you could lead if only you smoked brand X. Advertising seems to be being turned on its head in search of the most repulsive ad you can create.

GraphicDesign& launched a year ago whose launch event started in the Design Museum. Somehow I have managed to keep my head buried in the sand again as I completely missed their appearance. I am so excited to finally come across GraphicDesign&. For any of you have managed to miss them as well I have put together a bit about them from their website and press about them.

Look Like Love Initiative

As someone who graduated in 2007 I have first hand experience of how difficult it has been to get into the design industry because of the struggling financial climate. As a result I think that the initiative Look Like Love is a fantastic idea. Kate Brewer and Eden Asfaha were exasperated by the the lack of support available to graduates, which motivated them into taking matters into their own hands and created Look Like Love.

Launch of the Titanic Stamps

Plenty of things have been happening in the last few weeks due to it being the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster. I came across these stamps that have been designed by Loewy Group consultancy Team Publishing. They caught my eye as they were designed for the Royal Mail not just for displaying the tragic moment when the Titanic sank, but to tell the story of the building, launching, and sailing of the Titanic.
