If you had just been released from jail for healing a crippled guy and talking about Jesus, what would you do? This week at Sanctaury we will continue looking at Acts chapter 4 to see what the first church did when life got rough. It is pretty inspiring to see what it really looks like to live THE WAY God intended and imagine what would happen if we lived it out.

The Way: Week 2

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

God's plan for reaching billions of people with the love and hope of Christ was and still is a group of people living THE WAY Jesus taught us to live. Jesus left 120 confused followers in Jerusalem after he ascended into heaven, but that group of people transformed the entire world. How did they do it and how are we supposed to carry on the work Jesus started in them? That is what we will begin to explore this Sunday as we look at Acts 2 and learn what the church was truly designed to be.

The Way: Week 1

One of my favorite pastors likes to say that the local church is the hope of the world. I think he's right, but often it seems the church is becoming less influencial rather than being the loving, life giving institution God created it to be. This Sunday we are kicking off a sermon series on the first four chapters of Acts that will look at what God created the church to be and how we can become more like God intended.

Like the entire book, Chapter 5 is very stratightforward and challenges us to really live out our faith. We hope you can join us this week as we close out the book of James.

Beyond A Dashboard Jesus - Week 1: Should Christians Proselytize?

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

This week I (Josh) was talking to a woman who doesn't attend church. She likes the idea of God and Jesus, but doesn't like it when people try to force their views on other people. I find her view pretty common in our culture, yet I also see that Jesus commands us to go out and tell people about him and make disciples. So how do we do that? How do we share our faith without turning people off? Or should we be worried about turning people at all? Didn't Jesus turn people off? Join us this week as we begin a sermon series exploring the concept of sharing our faith.

Mark Powley: Consumer Detox

 <itunes:author>Mark Powley</itunes:author>

The popular, prevailing belief is that life should be lived to the max. By contrast, Jesus modeled a life of joyful limitation. He was free to do, or not to do. This Sunday Mark Powley, the author of a compelling book, Consumer Detox, will be speaking at Sanctuary. He will be sharing how to overcome what is often igrained in us by our consumer culture and live the life of freedom that Jesus promised.

Pray Continually

 <itunes:author>Dan McCandless</itunes:author>

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says that we should "pray continually". That sounds like a good, but unattainable idea. But what if it is possible? What if it is actually quite simple? This week we will examine this idea and explore what will happen if we are genuinely partnering with God in our everyday lives.

Follow: God Is Leading - Week 8: What do we do when God is silent

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

Today I (Josh) was talking with someone who had been up much of the night praying and desperately seeking God's guidance. They have been doing everything we talked about during this series and still no specific word from God. Which leads to our topic for this Sunday, What do we do when God is silent? What do we do when we are desperately seeking God, but it feels like God is so distant. While their are not always answers for why God is silent, there is hope for how we can handle those desperate times.

Follow: God Is Leading - Week 7: How to know if it's God

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

Probably the most common question when we talk about hearing God is, "How do I know if it's really God?" This weekend at Sanctuary we are going to examine how to discern God's voice from our own thoughts and desires. At the Saturday seminar, Kevin will be addressing the issue and on Sunday I will be examining how to test and know if what you hear is really God's voice.

Follow: God Is Leading - Week 6: Barriers to hearing God

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

This week I (Josh) was challenged on a few aspects of my life that may keep me from hearing and experiencing God fully. God can break through any barrier we put up, but often God wants us to break down those barriers so that we can have a full and intimate relationship with him. This Sunday we will continue the FOLLOW series by looking at ways to open ourselves up more to hearing and following God.

Follow: God Is Leading - Week 2: Seeking God

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

In the Bible God seems to speak all the time. God speaks through whispers, audible voices, even a donkey. If God is personal, then why don't I hear him more? This week we will begin to explore what we can do to hear God. P.S. The survey results from last week were counted and Josh was WAY WRONG, so you may want to come and see if he apologizes, he doesn't do it very often so you won't want to miss that.

Follow: God Is Leading - Week 1: God Is Personal

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

There are some people who claim God told them to do strange things like shoot the president. Others claim God told them to do great things, like become missionaries that help starving kids. Still others claim God has already spoken and we don't need any new revelations. Finally, there are those of us who would love to hear God speak to us but we wonder how it works. This Sunday we kick off our new sermon series, "FOLLOW: God is leading", by looking at how God wants to communicate with us every day.

The Blessed Life: It Is More Blessed To Give Than To Receive

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

The phrase "It is better to give than to receive" originated with Jesus, but has become a common English saying. Most people agree with the statement when asked. Psychologists have done studies confirming its truth. And yet it is so hard to live out. This Sunday at Sanctuary Josh examines what the statement really means and how important it is.

Igniting the Kingdom Life

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

What would be left if you took away all the stuff you have to do (work, school, laundry, etc.); all the stuff you waste time doing (TV, facebook, ect.); and all the stuff you do to please others (put on make-up, get dressed, etc.)? What or maybe more importantly, who is left? Often times we get so caught up in what we are doing that we forget who we really are. This week at Sanctuary we are going to strip away all the excess to figure out who God intended us to be.

Obstacles

 <itunes:author>Craig DeAngelis</itunes:author>

In the Bible God often views events differently than we do. For us life is good when things are going smoothly and bad when times are rough. But for God things are often reversed, so this week at Sanctuary we are going to explore how looking at obstacles from God's perspective can radically change our outlook on life.

God On Film: A-Team

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The A-Team. That is how the TV show behind the movie A-Team began every show. Wouldn't it be nice to have a team that you could call when you need help? This week we will be concluding our God on Film series by looking at how and why God created us to be a part of a challenging, accepting and caring team.

God On Film: Avatar

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

The movie Avatar creates an amazing beautiful world with glowing plants, floating mountains and people living harmoniously with each other, nature and god. The movie is so visually dramatic and the world so inviting that CNN reported that thousands of people after seeing the movie were depressed to come back to the "real world". This Sunday at Sanctuary we are going to talk about why so many of us wish our world was different and what we can do to have hope and purpose in our real world.

We're Sorry The Church Is... Oppressive

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

If Christianity is true, how come the church has oppressed and even promoted violence against people? This week we conclude the "We're Sorry" series by apologizing for the wrongs that have been committed in the name of Jesus. We will look at what could happen if the church stopped misprepresenting Jesus and actually lived for Him.

We're Sorry The Church Is... Judgemental - Part 2

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

The bible clearly tells us not to judge each other, but it also tells us to spur each other on and even to confront a Christian friend who has sinned against us. But how do we do that? How can we be a community that doesn't judge, but also takes sin seriously. This Sunday Josh will continue the "We're Sorry" series with We're Sorry The Church is Judgmental (part 2).

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

Why is it that so many people come to church seeking love and acceptance, only to feel judged? This week we want to apologize that the church is often judgmental and ask ourselves why we are so quick to judge other people and so slow to examine ourselves.

Baptism

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

It is inspiring to hear how God has impacted people's lives at Sanctuary. Join us this week to hear the true stories of how people came to follow Jesus and the difference He has made in their lives. It is a testimony to the truth that God is real and active in our world!
This Sunday we will get to hear eight people's stories as they take the step to publicly profess their faith in God by being baptized.

We're Sorry The Church Is... Hypocritical

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

People frequently complain about hypocrites in church. And I think they are right to complain, but not in the way you would expect.
This week we want to sincerely apologize for misrepresenting God by focusing on following rules and pretending we are better than we are. We want to let people know that it is God who is good, not us and encourage all of us to authentically follow a gracious God.

We're Sorry The Church Is… Boring

 <itunes:author>Josh Feay</itunes:author>

We will kick-off the "We're Sorry" series by talking about one of the biggest reasons people aren't a part of a church. A lot of times people feel like it is not worth their time. Sometimes church can even feel like a waste of time for
those of us who do attend.
This Sunday we want to apologize for the times church has felt like a boring waste of time and we want to look at what the church is really supposed to be.
