We are.. Danielle + Jimmy – Phoenix, AZ

We first met Danielle and Jimmy at AZ88 back in August of last year. We instantly struck up conversation, followed by laughter, story telling and more laughter. We knew then that this would be a wedding we would love. Needless to say we were not let down. The day began at the Biltmore. The wedding would follow at Brophy Chapel in downtown Phoenix. Built in 1928, it is an amazing venue with a ton of filtered light that enters from both sides heavily stained glass windows. D + J chose to have the reception at the Desert Botanical Gardens. Jimmy had his friends from California come all the way to play the reception with their band the BluNote Party Band. It was a great night of fun and dancing to top off a beautiful reception and evening.

This image is one of my favorites of the year. Yes I know none of the other images were black and white.. but this is our blog and wedowhatwewant.

We are.. Catherine + Wayne – San Francisco, CA

We flew out to San Francisco a few weeks back to shoot Catherine and Wayne’s engagement session. After having lunch together in Downtown San Mateo the four of us hopped into Wayne’s car and we made the beautiful drive to Butano State Park. We started our shoot by taking a hike about twenty minutes into the woods where Catherine and Wayne had one of their first dates, and later where he would ask for her hand in marriage From there we had some fun at a goat farm near the coast and then we enjoyed an amazing sunset by the water. It was so great getting to know them and their love story better… the day really was perfect. We’re looking forward to their big day this Saturday at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco!

Rules are made to be broken.. if there was a rule on making this post so far into 2013, I am happy to break it.

2012 has been one amazing and life changing year. We made Destination Weddings and Honeymoons A-List, traveled to over 20 of our 28 weddings, flew on 52 flights internationally and met a ton of amazing friends, clients and photographers. Anna and I cannot express enough gratitude to every one of you. Each of you has shaped and touched our lives in some way and we are who we are because of each of you. There is no better way to put it.. we are just LUCKY to have such great clients and friends AND I am LUCKY to have such an amazing and talented wife and partner in this business.

This year promises to be equally amazing with a multitude of fantastic destinations. We are attending WPPI in March so we hope to see all our photographer friends! We have a lot of great things to show already and a LOT we are excited to share in the near future.. so check back often

In the meantime, these photos are in no way a best of.. but more a collection of photos from each of our shoots that Anna and I selected to share that represent what we feel.. was.. Our 2012.

We are.. Janelle + Arran – Phoenix, AZ

one of the best things about shooting couples in love is hands down, the stories. life has a funny way to say the least of putting two people in the most perfect of situations so that they meet and fall in love. it is those stories that we love to tell because it is a reminder that around the corner there is always something new and bigger than what you may perceive. those moments, serendipitous and fluke-like, when later analyzed sometimes seem so precise and scripted. these are the stories that almost every couple has but each is unique and special to that couple. these are the stories we love so much to tell.

janelle and arran met by sheer happenstance in NYC… she was there for a training course and arran, being from australia, was touring the US with a group of buddies. arran’s cab driver dropped them off one block early, the same block janelle and her friend happened to be walking. while stopped at a light, janelle and arran’s eyes met… they started chatting and immediately something began to happen. while on that short trip in NYC, they had their first date and spent a few days together. janelle returned home, and while arran was supposed to carry on his travels to texas, he decided to deviate, reroute, and meet janelle in her state of arizona. their connection grew even stronger and when it was time for arran to head back home to australia they both knew that what they possessed was something special. after many sleepless nights chatting via skype, janelle booked a trip to australia to see arran’s hometown, meet his family, and hang with friends. it was then that they decided arran would make the big move to phoenix and start a life with janelle and her two boys. their journey to marriage wasn’t easy, but they knew it would all be worth it in the end; and so with their closest friends and family joining them, and a laptop streaming the ceremony live for those in australia and other far away places, arran and janelle eloped in the phoenix desert. with her eldest son playing chelo in the background, janelle walked with her dad down the aisle to find her soulmate waiting for her, beaming with joy. the ceremony was given by a close friend… they exchanged written vows, tears were shed, and once they were pronounced husband and wife guests released balloons into the sky with tags of good wishes attached to them.

janelle and arrans love for one another is obvious… it’s inspiring, their souls truly belong to one another. we shot a day after session with them following the wedding and nothing could have been more apparent that day. magical shit happens. you just get a sense that everything is right for them and you can see it their eyes. at one point while shooting janelle, we looked over to see arran quickly snapping his own iphone photo. it was clear that he was admiring her in a way that no one else could.. and it was wonderful to capture. i couldn’t think of a better way to ring in our 2013 then this wonderful elopement.

it should be noted that my wife and business partner anna shot this wedding alone and i hate myself for not having been able to attend until the day after shoot. i am blessed to have such a talented wife. she killed it.

We are.. Amy + Ryan – Chandler, AZ

We have had such a fun time getting to know Amy and Ryan. They are some of the nicest, most sincere people we’ve met to date. A little about their love story… they’ve known one another since childhood as their mom’s have been Bunco buddies for the past 15 years. Their wedding day marked two years of dating! It should also be noted that Ryan’s family owns a jewelry store… he not only designed Amy’s beautiful ring but also made it! How cool is that? After getting ready at San Marcos Golf Resort we headed over to their wedding venue, Inspirador. With the help of her mom and maid of honor, Amy slipped into her wedding dress and was ready to see her groom for the first time! We as photographers love the “first look” for various reasons… but mainly because it allows the couple a private and intimate moment before they proclaim their love for one another in front of all their friends and family. Amy and Ryan’s first look was beautiful… with tears of joy in their eyes and huge smiles on their faces all the stress of wedding planning had finally paid off and they could breathe a sigh of relief, they were now ready to become husband and wife! The ceremony was performed by Matt Nathanson… it was fun, light-hearted and of course emotional. Afterwards guests moved from the courtyard into the gallery room for cocktail hour where their signature drink, Lemon Strawberry Vojito’s were served. Guests dined on some delicious food by Inspirador’s in house executive chef, Chad Murray. Drea with Desert House Productions kept the party going all night long… seriously, that girl knows how to DJ! It was an amazing party for two wonderful people. Katie Benson with Inspirador was an amazing coordinator to work with… laid back and on top of things! Congratulations to Amy and Ryan… the pleasure was ours!

A special thanks to Rachael Earl for coming along and absolutely dominating a photobooth for us!! <3

We are.. Ashly + Mike – Temecula, CA

Anna has had the pleasure of knowing Ashly since Jr. High. She is one of the craziest gals we know… don’t believe us? She ditched her original wedding dress for another one the day before she left for her wedding! She’s also one of the funniest and sweetest people you will meet… her laugh is infectious and together, we sound like a pack of Hyenas Mike and Ashly are a super fun and laid back couple. They wed at Ponte Winery in beautiful Temecula… their closest friends and family came out to celebrate their love and danced the night away. It’s crazy to think these two have known each other since they were in the 5th grade… and now… they are married, have a beautiful child and another on the way! Congratulations to you both… it was an honor capturing your day and we wish you the best as you start your new adventure in Connecticut!

Former clients of ours introduced our work to Chantell and Kevin so we knew they were going to be a great match! Documenting their love came very easy for us because despite being together for years… they still possess that “honeymoon” quality of a relationship. Their wedding at The Valley Ho was absolutely beautiful. Cara from A Day To Cherish really brought their vision to life and made their day so special. The rooftop reception was the icing on the cake. A beautiful wedding capped off with a beautiful evening of dancing and fun.

We are.. Sheena + Greg – Chandler, AZ

Sometimes it is nice to just shoot a wedding in your home town. We met Sheena and Greg a whole year ago and made instant friends. It was hard to believe their wedding was already coming around but that is just how this year has gone.. extremely quick. Sheena and Greg got married at St. Andrew the Apostle church in chandler and had their reception in Noah’s Event Center. Sheena and Greg are very close with their families and both sides played very important roles in their special day. Sheena and her father even danced to a video of them singing a song together when they were little. The party ended with the groom performing karaoke.

We are.. Vincent + Jennifer – Houston, Texas

Vinny and Jennifer had a beautiful backyard wedding in Houston, Texas. Everything is big in Texas and this wedding was no exception. I should actually say it was in 2 beautiful backyards. The first, her fathers, where they were married in and the second, theirlong-time wonderful neighbors where the reception would take place. The wedding would be streamed so that Vinny’s extended family in Croatia could also attend. Heartfelt vows were given.. a tree was planted and a true Texan and true Croatian who met and live in New York.. would be married. A venue complete with Texas bulls, hay bails and other livestock.. it wreaked of southern charm. Dinner was an amazing assortment of smoked pork tacos, sauteed shrimp martini’s, sausage biscuits and gravy, truffle mac and cheese and cheese grits (yeah… you are doing it right). Vinny and Jenn and a ton of friends danced the night away in cowboy boots and even had a standing auction as they watched each other be auctioned off for dances (Vinny won.. he would want you all to know ).

We are.. Meagan + Carl – Austin, Texas

I still remember the day we met Meagan + Carl. Our bride Jessica had introduced us to them. We were shooting her and her husband Michael’s reception when she came up and said “guys! I have your next wedding! You have to come meet them real quick… they are awesome and you will love them”. So there we were.. at a wedding.. having a consult..being pimped out… well not really.. but the point here is that Jess was right. Carl and Meagan are good people…scratch that…great people. They are some of the most genuine and likable human beings we have ever met. When we shot their engagements with them we ended up spending the whole day in San Francisco with them, staying up way too late and talking about life, love and silly things. Having made friends that day and through other encounters we were extremely excited for their day. They had selected to be wed in Austin, Texas at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. It is a beautiful venue outside of Austin. The day was perfect and in the end as is always the case.. two beautiful people were married. Anna and I were just excited to be there and to document the day for them.
