MySpace “friend” has aggressively used MySpace’s free hosting and tools to self-promote herself and her own commercial Web site properties and offline businesses:"
<link rel='replies' The folks in the financial services industry who do risk analysis are very keen on Monte Carlo simulations using the Black-Scholes (sic Shoals, see below) algorithm. They have similar problems with asymmetry and CPU- hungry applications, and while their application is clearly more important than MMORPG, the number of individuals who actually use the application is severely constrained."

Social computing in the Web 2.0 era | WTN

Social computing in the Web 2.0 era | WTN: "insights, descriptions, analysis, and evaluation of some of the Web 2.0 businesses and concepts that are gaining credibility and providing utility for both end consumers and businesses."

'Dream applications' start to come true on the Web | csmonitor.com

'Dream applications' start to come true on the Web | csmonitor.com: "'We finally realized we could now execute some of these great ideas we had in 1999,' adds Alex Bard, the CEO of the start-up goowy.com, whose 100,000 users can send instant messages and e-mails, store and share videos or photos, and keep a calendar - all online. You can get anything you want from the Web. The hegemony of software, applications and perhaps even operating systems -- Bill Gates shudders to think -- will finally begin to fall by the wayside.

It's ironic. Sun Microsystems, whose slogan was 'We put the dot in dot-com' and which more realistically amounted to 'We put the dot in the dot-com bust,' will finally gain a measure of vindication. Sun may no longer be the major player who cuts Microsoft down to size, but its Java programming language will still have a role in bringing Web apps to the people.

PCs will remain strong under Web 2.0, but Moore's Law, the notion that microprocessors will double in power every 24 months, will finally fade, not because it's not doable but because it's no longer necessary. We've got the power, now we just need efficiency, throughput and bandwidth. We want gigabit Ethernet and a clear strong signal."

What Web 2.0 Means to You

What Web 2.0 Means to You: "I'm in the camp that believes that much of what Web 2.0 is about comes directly from Tim Berners-Lee's original vision of the Web.
