“Sometimes the neighbor picks up the package”

What a great way to tell your clients to check with the neighbors before annoying the customer support.
Amazon really gets it: Starting with great usability and ending with a little verbiage in the emails.

What’s also great: Since I ordered at Amazon.de, and asked for the delivery to the US, my order went out within the matter of a few hours. Amazing!

Heads up for the PMS Marketing Law Conference in New York. I’ll be part of the session “A New Generation of Bloggers: Are They Part of Your Plan?” Sept. 8th 2-2.45pm.

The conference takes place at the Museum Room at Bridgewaters - South Street Seaport.
It should be a fun event since my background is law (studied it back in the day in Germany) and marketing and I am certainly trying not to repeat what others have been writing about and give it a little bit of legal touch (since a lot of lawyers will be at this conference).

My goal is to come up with something new and exciting, not the usual boring stuff that makes you want to leave a conference within a second.

So if you are visiting the conference, don’t hesitate to stop by and talk to me. Also don’t hesitate to shoot me ideas about what you would love to hear. All ideas and comments welcome!

Ok..the first big web analytics vendor noticed that up to 20-30% of the web traffic is generated by a mobile device: Omniture’s Sitecatalyst 14.1 will support Mobile Analytics.

Here the key features:

“- In a partnership with mobile Internet advocate group dotMobi and
its DeviceAtlas database, SiteCatalyst communicates with an extensive
library of device profiles to accurately identify the mobile device
accessing a Web page. This determines what video, audio, and text can
be displayed, thereby giving marketers insight into what customers are
using most frequently. Moreover, carrier identification gives marketers
the ability to partner with carriers to set up other campaigns.Through
the use of visitor identification technology such as cookies,
subscriber identification, or header information, SiteCatalyst can
identify a new visitor or a repeat visitor to deliver an experience
akin to the traditional Internet.

- The solution aims to capture the right data from a variety of devices to garner insight about thepage. Omniture’s server places on each Web page a very small file that occupies a single pixel, allowing marketers to track the activity of the mobile device: where the user is clicking, what content is beingdownloaded, what video is being watched, etc.

- A geolocation component that recognizes where the site is being accessed from, thereby enabling Web publishers to deliver advertisements applicable to that location.”

Sometimes it’s tough to be dependant on all these monopoly companies: Last Tuesday I finally got a new Inet access, a boring Cable TV box and some phone modem, that I don’t need.

Anyways…it seems like Time Warner’s triple play is not only a total waste of my time, but also the Inet seems to hooked up with an Canadian IP. Google, Ebay and Amazon kick me to their Canadian site, instead leaving me in New York (where I belong).

Quite funny to see who has Geo recognition setup and I haven’t checked it yet, but I believe this blogs web analytics data has an increase in Canadian traffic (I currently don’t block my IPs for private sites)

Anyways…I certainly can work around this, but did anybody experienced the same issue?

Sometrics, a new social and facebook apps analytics solution announced
today, that starting today, developers working with Sometrics can choose
to share with appssavvy basic analytic information about who’s using
their apps and how - including audience demographics, traffic,
interests and actions within the social web. appssavvy proactively
seeks out advertisers who want to reach those audiences,
significantly increasing a developer’s advertising.
The process is entirely opt-in for Sometrics developers - each developer decides whether
or not to share its demographic data with appssavvy.Interesting approach.
Would be great if Web analytics vendors would use the collected data to help data to help
out websites finding good advertisers. I guess especially big companies like Omniture
could open a totally new revenue stream.

Here the email that Techcrunch published:

“Dear xxxxxx:

Thank you for your recent completion of the self-submission form on
the Microsoft adCenter site for this program. Below is more information
for you about the pilot. I can answer general questions you may have
about participation. Please let me know if you would like to proceed
and I can invite you formally on Monday July 21st to begin….”

Really great news. I’ve talked to an Microsoft Adcernter person at the Palms lounge one and a half years ago about the syndication network and I thought it never happened. I am convinced now that Microsoft will give Google a run for their money.
