I have heard of humans “marrying” spirits/ghosts, but humans marrying gods/dieties?

Guess this world is more complicated than I figure.

TAIPEI - A TAIWANESE man out of luck in earthly love has married a goddess after she ordered him to do so in a dream, a report said on Wednesday.

The man, identified by his family name Lin, claimed the Lotus Fairy, a Taoist deity, started coming to him in his sleep after he went to her temple to seek her blessing following a series of failed relationships, said CTS TV.

The goddess soon instructed Lin to marry her, and to comply the 40-year-old held a ‘wedding ceremony’ in which a young woman holding a statue of the goddess stood in for the bride, the report said.

Mr Lin signed a wedding certificate and presented a ring to the goddess in the ceremony at her temple, which was decorated with red banners, according to the report.

Since the wedding, Mr Lin has moved the statue to his home in central Taiwan to worship her and claimed that his ‘wife’ has protected him from both illnesses and accidents, it said. — AFP

JOHOR BARU: A fireman dashed forward without a second thought and stretched out his arms to break the fall of a distraught woman who fell from the top floor of a three-storey shophouse here.

The 25-year-old woman had apparently wanted to jump from the building in Taman Pelangi at 8.25am yesterday but 12 firemen from the Larkin fire station had calmed her.

However, after 50 minutes, the woman slipped from the ledge she was perched on and fell, screaming Allahhuakbar! (Allah is great).

Operations commander C. Kesaven dashed forward and broke her fall. She first fell on his head and then into his outstretched arms.

When met, Kesaven was modest about his heroic act, mumbling only: “It’s part of my job (to save people).”

The woman, he said, did not have any serious injuries and had been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for further examination.

“She had been renting a room on the third floor of the building. We believe she has marital problems,” he said.

The woman had earlier locked the door to her room, preventing firemen from entering and rescuing her from the ledge.

Firemen outside the building began setting up airbags and implementing other safety measures.

Kesaven said they did not want to break down the door, fearing that the shock and tremor might cause the woman to fall.

“We took every safety precaution. We’re glad that a tragedy was prevented,” he added.

State Fire and Rescue Department director Abd Ghani Daud commended Kesaven for his bravery.

“I am really proud of him and the rest of his men. He risked his own life to rescue the woman,” he said.

Child elopers’ Africa plan foiled

The three were trying to travel without passports or money

Two German children - aged five and six - have been stopped by police from eloping to Africa to tie the knot in the sun, reports say.

The budding lovebirds, identified as Mika and Anna-Lena, packed bathing costumes, sunglasses and a lilo and headed for the airport.

They even had the presence of mind to invite along an official witness - Anna-Lena’s seven-year-old sister.

The three got as far as Hanover railway station before police intervened.

The young couple were “very much in love” and had decided to get married in Africa “where it is warm”, police spokesman Holger Jureczko told the AFP news agency.

The idea for the getaway wedding was born as the children’s families celebrated New Year’s eve together and Mika regaled the two girls with stories of a recent holiday to Italy.

The following morning, as their parents slept, the intrepid trio walked 1km (0.6 miles) to the local tram station at Langenhagen, where they hopped aboard a tram for Hanover central station.

But the group aroused the suspicion of a guard as they waited for a train to the airport, and police were called in.

Officers persuaded the children they would not get far without tickets and money, but consoled them with a free tour of the police station, where they were shortly picked up by relieved parents.

Although any marriage plans have been put on hold for now, police did not altogether rule out the possibility of an African wedding.

“They can still put their plan into action at a later date,” AFP quoted the spokesman as saying.

Israel is well known for developing and buying some of the most advanced military tech and weapons. Now they have even begun using Youtube to explain and defend its recent actions.

I just wonder when our own Government is going to think out of the box and utilise the power of the Internet to further the country’s goal.
