Google India has been organized their series of technology events with the name g|india, g|days. It started from Chennai on 19th July 2012 and will continue till Mumbai on 12th September 2012. One of these events were organized at Delhi which I attended and am reviewing in this post. g|day at Delhi, like all the other g|days was a two days event. The first day on 4th September 2012 was “Business day” which had the theme ”Growing with a Digital Strategy” and the second day on 5th September 2012 was “Technology Day” which had the theme “Developer and Webmaster Deep Drive”. In this post I am going to review the technology day.

g|india: Event Agenda

At the time of registration I got a badge which had these three cards viz, my Delegate pass which mentioned my name, the event agenda and the venue map. Agenda of g|days has been explained in this agenda card quite simply.

Registration – Ofcourse everyone had to register to attend the event.

Welcome Address – The country head of Google India, Mr. Sunil Rao welcomed the guests in a very entertaining manner. He explained everything which was going to happen in the day and what all there was for the guests.

Keynote - The keynote was very impressing for the guests. The light and sound arrangements had been outstanding throughout the event.

Tracks - The further event was divided into four tracks. Track 1 concentrated on Android and mobile computing, track 2 had everything about Google Maps, track 3 was about Google Cloud and Google APIs and track 4 was about education and career in technology.

I attended track 1 of the event which was about Android and Mobile technology. One of my friends and fellow bloggers, Mr. Chandan Mishra from Learn and Earn has reviewed the track 3, Google Cloud and APIs. Read:

Gindia/gday Review:Awesome event to learn something new with fullon fun

g|india: The Venue

The two days event was organized at Epicentre, at Apparel House in Gurgaon near Huda City Centre metro station at Delhi. The venue was a huge building which managed more than a thousand guests’ event, refreshment and everything else very easily. The building was divided into four tracks in which different events were going on. As mentioned earlier, light and sound arrangements were great. There was gaming zone, learning zone, chill out zone and the tracks. A high speed wi-fi connection was active all over the event. The only complain about the venue was that at a certain point of time in the event, the air conditioners were put off and I noticed some guests waving their notebooks for cool air.

g|india: Welcome Address and Keynote

In the welcome address, the country head outreach programs, Google India, Mr. Sunil Rao showed some interesting statistics about how mobile technology and smartphones are taking over the digital market and the Internet. While he explained everything about the present scenario, he also described that how are things going to be in the future 2015. The rate of growing mobile technologies was interesting to see and was presented in a great manner. The audiences had a great time in this part of the event.

g|india: Demos

The most exciting part of the whole event was this. Mr. Neelesh Bodas, who is a software engineer in Google at Banglore showed the demos of certain Google products. Starting with Android JellyBeans, he showed the functionality of Google Now, an app which recognizes the question you ask it in your voice, and answers you. This app comes pre installed with Google Android. The crowd responded pretty well in this demo.

The second demo was of Google Drive. Mr. Bodas along with one of his colleagues, opened Google Drive: Document in two different Macbooks. The same document was opened in both the machines. The demo showed the real time sync of Google Drive. While Mr. Bodas was typing, the text was appearing on the other screen too.

The third and final demo was of the sync power of Google Chrome browser. This demo showed that the history of Google Chrome gets saved on a cloud based location and even if you close your browser in your PC and then open it in your mobile, your history will be accessible as it is with all the back visited pages and tabs which can be restored.

Some more overview demos were of Google plus hangouts.

g|india: Android Application Development

After a tea/coffee break, I attended track 1 of the conference which was about Android Application Development. To show that how easy it is to develop an android application, Mr. Sunil Rao invited on the stage, Mr. Evan Luthra who is a 17 year old school going student. He developed the first ever app of Delhi Metro service. After this demo, the conference was led by Mr. Anirudh Dewani and Mr. Toni who were connected on a Google Plus hangout. They explained many things about Android application development. Some key points they included in their presentations were how to use the title bar in Android apps, when and how to show notifications in Android, how links work in Android notifications, how applications made for the Android platform should be, about their uniqueness and purity. They also answered a questions and answers session in which the audiences asked many questions to them and they responded very responsibly. After this session, we headed to lunch.

g|india: Lunch and Refreshments

Lunch and refreshments were outstanding. The menu had a lot of mouth watering dishes of all kinds, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, starters, sweets etc. There was also a vendor kind of person who had a lot for free real JellyBeans, and that was the most entertaining part of the lunch area.

g|india: Mobile Application Business

After the lunch, there was this great session named “Mobile Applications: How to quit your day job?”. This presentation was led by Mr. Saurabh Adeeb who is Strategic Partner Development Manager at Google. In this presentation, he showed that how developing mobile applications can help you quit your day job and can prove as a great business for you. He showed different ways to monetize an Android app which includes advertisements, premium features, demo versions for apps, paid apps etc. He showed the examples of apps like paper toss and angry birds. He explained that after many failures, a developer gets success. He also explained the importance of ads in the monetization of an app.

g|india: User Experience

Mr. Anushman Kumar who is an User experience designer on Enterprise apps at Google took the session of User Experience at Google which was creativity named, “Behind the scenes: User experience @ Google”. This session explained what is user experience, what it is not and some do’s and don’ts related to user experience. He explained that a user is kept at the first priority while developing anything in the technology world, whether it be an app or a website.

g|india: HTML5 Magic Moments

After all these sessions followed this super exciting session named “HTML5: More Magic Moments”. This session was again taken by Mr. Neelesh Bodas. In this session, Mr. Bodas showed some great inbuilt features of HTML5 such as drag and drop, rotation, image and video integration, animation etc. He presented HTML as more of a magic language than a markup language. This session was very attractive to the audiences and at the same time, it was awesome. Mr. Bodas showed the demo with the code behind the simple programs he designed, and he explained in a very simple manner.

g|india: More…

In addition to all these technical events, g|india had some more events such as explanations about the Google product forums, GDG, Google developers’ group Delhi, Panel discussion on product development challenges and more. There were also some competitions which were held there such as the best photo etc. Every event attendee was given a complimentary g|india merchandise t-shirt.

The two complains which I had with the event were the switching off of air conditioners in between the event and the delayed schedule of the event. Everything else was outstanding. So a four star rating to g|india.

Overall, the first ever g|days event of Google India was a huge success. I had a great day there and will attend it next year too for sure. To end this post, I am sharing this video I recorded there. This is a fun game which was held there as an entertainment filler. Do watch this video. Thanks for reading.

<iframe

One typical problem with Android applications is that when you install them, you don’t get any setup or installation files which you can transfer to other devices to share the applications. For this reason, many Android users download the applications their friends have instead of asking them for it. This post shows a super simple trick to send installed Android apps to other devices so that they won’t have to download them.

How to Transfer Android Apps?

Download and install Linda Manager from Google play portal on the device you need to transfer the app from.

Open Linda manager from your device’s menu.

Go to the Applications folder (must probably be showing the application memory usage).

In this folder you will be able to see all the installed applications on your device. Select any application you want to transfer and go to its sub-menu by holding your tap on the application’s name.

Now select backup. Your application’s apk (installation) file will be created.
<a

You will see the apk file of your application. Now you can share this file with any friend and they can install the application from this file.<br

I have been researching a lot these days about Android smartphone as soon I have to buy a new one for myself. At WeboGraffiti, we are also planning to start a section for Android application development soon. In this post I have compared the two low budget giants from Sony Ericsson, Live With Walkman and Xperia Mini pro on the basis of their specifications and price. If you are planning to buy an Android phone from Sony Ericsson, this can help you a bit.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro

Xperia Mini Pro is the upgraded version of Xperia Mini which has been great in the Android phones’ market. Xperia Mini Pro has a lot of cool features which you can consider while buying a smart phone for yourself. Below are the technical specifications of the same.

Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread).

QWERTY keyboard and 3 inch multi-touch display.

5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash.

1 GHz scorpion processor.

512 MB RAM.

Below are some pros and cons of this phone over Sony Ericsson Live with walkman.

Pros

A full QUERTY keypad instead of only a touch screen to type.

Higher PPI screen which gives a display of 191 PPI instead of 179 PPI.

Higher internal storage capacity of 400MB instead of 320 MB.

Less price.

Cons

Heavier and thicker as compared to Live with Walkman.

Small screen size.

Less battery backup in both talk time and stand by time.

Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman

Live With Walkman is almost similar to Xperia mini pro. Most of the features are same as that of the above just some differences make the confusion about which to consider while buying. Below are the most important specifications of this cool low budget Android smart phone.

Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread).

3.2 inch multi-touch display.

5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash.

1 GHz scorpion processor.

512 MB RAM.

Below are some pros and cons of this phone over Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro.

Pros

Light and thin, has a thickness of 14mm vs 18mm and a weight of 115 g vs 136 g.

Slightly larger screen with a size of 3.2 inches instead of 3 inches.

Very high battery backup when compared.

Cons

Misses a QWERTY keyboard or an alphanumeric keypad. Absolutely no keys support.

Has a higher price instead of having almost same features.

Less PPI screen.

Less internal memory.

So here is your comparison of the two giant smart phones from Sony Ericsson, now if on you to decide. I suggest go for Live with Walkman only if you want a big screen and you extremely need high battery backup. After all, all these are not enough for a compromise of a QWERTY keyboard. So in our view, the winner of this comparison is Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro.

<img

Recently we reviewed another Android device, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. Do read the other posts too. Thanks.

The post <a

Every Internet user should be on a cloud storage.

Download and install Dropbox on your computer.

A folder named “Dropbox” will be created on your PC which will be synced with the cloud and you will get some free space.

Step 2: Create a static website

Create a static website by joining some static web pages together on any scripting language, HTML for example. Include an index page in it for example index.html or index.css I have created a website for my cousins’ school project which I am using in this tutorial.

Step 3: Host your website

Now the last this left is to host your website.

Put all your website content including images and files in a folder.

Upload the folder in the public folder in your dropbox.

Open the folder within DropBox. Locate your index or home file and copy its public link as shown below with computers.html.

Here is the homepage link of your static website hosted on DropBox.

You can view the website I created for my cousin here as an example.

Step 4: Adding a custom domain

Now when you have hosted the website on DropBox, get a free or paid domain and redirect the URL to your DropBox public URL. Don’t forget to hide the original URL and show only your purchased domain. This way you need not to show others that your site is hosted on DropBox.

This is it. Cool trick isn’t it? If you have such tricks, you can send us through our contact page. We will sure try to publish it on WeboGraffiti and if you could frame it in a post, you are welcome to <a

All that time when I didn’t ever use linux and worked on Windows 98, I had to hit the “Prt Scr” button to take the screen shot and then I used spend a big deal of time on paint resetting and cropping the image so that I could get my desired shot on screen. When I used Ubuntu for the first time, I found that it has a pre installed program which can adjust a screen shot according to my requirement.

Now I have started using Windows again for I wanted to play some Windows games in my semester break, I found that same procedure for Windows 8 release preview too. When I clicked the “Prt Scr” button, a screen shot got captured in my clipboard which I had to manage in image editing programs. This is understandable that the this can be changed in Windows setting but its still does not give the feature that Ubuntu screen shot program has. After some search, I found a good and lite screen shot program for Windows. It has even more features that the Ubuntu one has, so I thought sharing it with you.

What is LightShot?

As the name suggests LightShot is a light (very light) screen shot program for Windows. To use this software you have to install it. You can download it for free from Skillbrain’s offlicial website. The setup file size is about 2 MB which takes about a minute to download on a broadband connection. The software installs in seconds and takes about 1MB of your physical memory to run on a Windows system. Its light. Isn’t it?

When you want to use it, just press the “Prt Scr” button on your keyboard and the software will ask you to select the area of the screen of which you want to take a shot. After you have selected the area, you can do a much lot with your screen shot which we are going to discuss further in this post.

Features

Upload - Take a screenshot with lightshot and directly upload it to their server. You don’t have to deploy any service for uploading. When you upload gets finished, you get a link to your image fair and square without any complicated process.

Edit Online - You can take a screen shot and edit it directly on the Internet. They have a photo shop like editor which can edit your screen shot quite nicely.

Print - This awesome software can also print your screen shot without actually saving it in your hard memory.

Copy – As the old Prt Scr button did, lightshot still gives you the feature of copying the screenshot to your hard drive and paste it anywhere.

Save – You can save your screen shot on your hard drive with just a click.

Share – Share your screen shot on facebook or twitter with your browser by click the desired buttons. Your shot will get uploaded in your photo albums.

Search – You can search for similar images on Google image search or tineye again without uploading your shot on any or your personal space.

Email – Last but not the least, you can e mail your screen shot with your favorite e mail program.

So how did you find the features? Even I never thought that taking screen shots on Windows could be so cool. Even if you have another screen shot software, just give this a try. It is worth it. This is all we have in this post. Thanks for reading. Stay tuned, stay ahead.

The post <a

Making of a user friendly website with DotNetNuke!

Since the advent of marketing in online presence, advertising or promotion got a new edge to forecast the success. New technologies seem to get old within few moments of generation but that just not stop new born to enter this competitive world. DotNetNuke (DNN) is surely one of them.

In the world of web designing, investors have started thinking of shifting from the basics of web designing and skipping on to other forms like graphic designing, logo designing and many more to account. In fact including ethnic graphics and neatly as well as meaningful designs are termed to be impressively included in the content management system. Therefore these tend to have become multilingual websites which had so long being suppressed.

For those who are not aware of this browser based system of content management, there is a lot to explain about DotNetNuke. The best part of this software is no requirement of professionals in designing your website. Thus the intricacies are being cut down right at the beginning. You can also confirm this to be an excellent tool for those who believe in functioning independently. But at the same time the chances of error might be included in absence of proper knowledge.

Such situations are faced especially by the ecommerce websites where changes take place faster than the time. But with DotNetNuke,

You need not require any kind of support for giving a change in your online presence.

Your costs are being reduced and;

At the same time there is international community which provides support with regular updates.

As the site content is totally separated from the design, henceforth there are ample options to include customized templates for a makeover to your website.

Thus now there is no doubt about the hosting capabilities that get truly enhanced with the Microsoft dot net technology inbuilt software, DotNetNuke. Thus in short, you can say that your internal processes of management will function smoothly with the help of built in modules via both intranet as well as extranets.

Discussing about types of modules present,

There are announcement modules that simply inform your viewers about the site.

There is HTML module that helps to install your HTML formatted text into the specified area with features like WYSIWYG and those offspring resulting from Graphic Design India.

To download there is document module which is indeed very helpful.

The DotNetNuke portal is said to open up more of the modules like links, content and graphics in order to enhance the functionality of the management system.

If you are ready to enhance your DNN development then switch on to Dynamic Registration 4.0 that lets you customizes the user’s registration fields.

There is Smith Shopping Cart v3.88 that is known to be the smartest shopping cart with secured shopping facilities.

Event Calendar and Registration 4.0 can be downloaded free to handle your events in a calendar.

There is no doubt about DotNetNuke to be a powerful tool in this age of ravaging ecommerce!

The post <a

Internet has brought a lot many facilities as well as problems in people’s lives. The endless entertainment, countless games, limitless information, fastest communication, voice, video and conference chatting and so forth may be the things that have crept into the people’s lives without giving them any opportunity to relax. A person who uses internet of with the fastest and state-of-the-art equipment has no other choice than to remain sitting there, watch movies, playing games, consulting websites and so on.

Becoming ‘bookworm’ is considered to be unhealthy even when books are said to be the best friends of human beings, likewise, being internet-obsessed is also considered unhealthy even when the computer, as a whole, is considered as a friend to humanity. If you are a computer and internet user, you must consider your behavior and other things related to the web surfing. If your web surfing has taken the form of obsession then you may stand at some wrong footing. Reconsider your situation and try to minimize the use of internet in your life.

Internet for some people is just like the intoxication by narcotics. There are people in the world who would all the time sit before their computers for chatting and texting. Some people are so crazy that they would even go to the extent of using their computer when they are driving. Various people have suffered due to this craziness and have been a cause of accident. The internet behaviors must be within limits and under your control, if not, you will have to face the consequences that are really bitter in all terms.

You may be one of the millions of people who would sit before the computer, find newer games and try to end them as soon as possible. These video games are developed on certain stories, movies, plays and so on. If this be the situation , you must play the games only during a certain time without disturbing your own routine life otherwise everything will become chaotic for you and you will not be able to do any work or study.

Almost every person who owns a computer has compulsively been receiving a lot many emails of which some are necessary while most of them are unnecessary. This type of situation enables them to continue reading one thing or the other without any break in it. it is an excitement in the beginning but a boring activity in the long run. A lot of emails to read and then reply to some of them on daily basis without even caring for the weekends is really an act that leads people towards the things that are never okay in one’s life.

So the use of so many emails, clicking, tabbing and doing this type of things may lead you towards depression and perhaps physical loneliness from your friends or relatives. So keep away from the things that are really depressing you and make it certain that your internet usage does not exceed the limits. You must make a perfect analysis of your internet behavior.

The post <a

Galaxy Tab 2: First Impression

The first impression of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 can be none other than its operating system. This tablet runs on Android 4.0 (Ice cream Sandwich) which looks and functions very good on a tablet. So Galaxy Tab 2 is one of the very few tablet PCs with Android 4.0 ICS OS. This operating system is supported by a wide 10.1 inches display (P5100) or 7 inches display (P3100) on a TFT multitouch screen with 16M colors. The next thing to notice is the speed of this device which is enhanced by 1GB RAM and Dual-Core 1GHz processor. So Galaxy Tab 2 takes the plunge in both looks and speed.

Galaxy Tab 2: Overall Experience

The experience of working on an Android tablet is always good whether be it any one of the ones available. As mentioned earlier, Galaxy Tab 2 has good display on a 10.1/7 inch TFT screen and Android 4.0 (Ice cream sandwich) operating system. Since the RAM and processor are good, this device can support all your application software which you want to run in your tablet. This tablet PC can also work as a phone as it supports your SIM card. You can make video calls and browse the internet with 3G or GSM network. GPRS, EDGE, USB, Bluetooth and Wi-fi are also supported. The internal memory of this device is 1GB and the storage is available in 16GB and 32GB versions of the gadget. Micro SD cards upto 32 GB are supported. The maximum supported internet data rate is 21 mbps on HSDPA.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 lacks in the resolution quality a bit. The rear (primary) camera is a 3.5 mega pixel one and the front (secondary) camera is VGA. This is a way less than the direct competitor Apple’s iPad 3 which has a 5 MP primary camera and 0.3 MP VGA secondary camera. The resolution is less but the quality of the camera is good, the great display of Galaxy Tab 2 give clear and beautiful photographs and video recording.

Multimedia

The audio output is given by a 3.5 mm jack which can support Samsung and other compatible headphones, headsets and speakers. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 can play a variety of formats including mp3, mp4, divx, xvid, mkv, flv, wav etc. Therefore multimedia support is awesome on this device. Online media can be played with Adobe flash player. Images and video taken from the camera can be edited with pre installed applications.

Galaxy Tab 2: Features

Full features of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 are,

Android 4.0 (Ice cream sandwich) operating system.

10.1/7 inches TFT screen.

3.15 MP primary camera.

1GB RAM and 16/32GB storage.

Upto 32GB micro SD card support.

SNS integration.

Preinstalled Android Apps.

Dual Core 1 GHz processor.

Adobe Flash support.

So, Galaxy Tab 2 is a nice gadget to buy this fall and is one of the best Android Tablets available. Planning to buy it? Its price in India is around 19,300 INR or 346 USD.

This is all in this post. Do let us know your views about this gadget. Thanks for reading.

The post <a
