On June 12, 2026, Automattic published Desktop Mode, a free, open-source plugin that renders /wp-admin as a desktop operating system: draggable and resizable windows, a left-edge dock built from the admin menu, virtual desktops called Spaces, a unified Recycle Bin, and a command palette accessible with Cmd+K. The plugin uses only public WordPress hooks. Deactivating it returns the admin to standard wp-admin with no residual changes.

The timing is not coincidental. WordPress 7.0 (May 20) put an AI client and connectors to Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI into core. WooCommerce 10.9 (stable June 23) ships canonical agent abilities for the first time. Desktop Mode is a third experiment from the same quarter, approaching the same question from a different direction: not what agents can do with WordPress, but what the person managing WordPress needs the interface to do.

MariaDB has patched CVE-2026-49261, a critical OS command injection vulnerability that scores CVSS 10.0 and allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on affected database servers. The vulnerability is in the wsrep_notify_cmd functionality, a component of Galera Cluster replication. Standalone MariaDB installations without Galera are not affected. Patches were released on May 27, 2026; the vulnerability was publicly disclosed on June 11, 2026.

This distinction matters before anything else. wsrep_notify_cmd is a configuration option specific to Galera Cluster, the synchronous multi-primary replication layer used in high-availability MariaDB deployments. It is not present or active in standard single-node MariaDB installations.

A deployment is vulnerable only if all three of the following are true:

MariaDB is running as part of a Galera Cluster
The wsrep_notify_cmd option is configured in the server settings (it has no value by default)
The server is running one of the affected versions

Hetzner’s 2026 pricing story has had three chapters. The April 1 round generated the bulk of media coverage. The June 15 round – applying to new orders only – is where the numbers diverge sharply by product tier. For the CCX dedicated vCPU cloud servers and CPX Intel cloud servers, the June 15 adjustment alone adds 107% to 204% on top of prices that had already risen in April. The 30% headline applied to a different tier.

The CX and CAX lines run on shared CPU resources – multiple customers on the same physical core. The hardware cost per vCPU is distributed across tenants, which limits the per-unit impact of RAM and NVMe price increases. The CCX line provisions dedicated physical cores to each instance. A server that hosts one CCX63 tenant absorbs the full procurement cost of that hardware. When DRAM contract prices rise 58% to 63% quarter-over-quarter (TrendForce, Q2 2026), the impact on dedicated-resource instances is proportionally much larger.

The CPX line’s outsized US increases reflect a separate variable: Intel processor pricing in the US market combined with the USD/EUR exchange dynamics affecting Hetzner’s US operations, where hardware procurement and hosting costs are denominated differently than in Germany and Finland.

Het is ook meer de vraag hoeveel is je eigen tijd (werk en reistijd naar datacenter) waard, als je vlak naast een datacenter kantoor hebt of woont kun je zeggen dat dit te verwaarlozen is. Als je 4 uur onderweg bent of langer (bvb naar andere landen) dan kan het veel voordeliger zijn om gewoon dedicated of cloud te huren. Andere optie kan ook zijn om remote hands mee te nemen in je kosten en die het beheer van je eigen gekochte hardware te laten doen.

Het is een vraag en berekening die je toch voor jezelf zal moeten doen, niet elke business case is dezelfde, ga je bvb elke week een externe ssd/hdd wisselen voor backups, push je dit ook nog naar de cloud. Zet je meerdere servers om redundantie te krijgen bvb 4x 16 core + 256GB ram vs 1x 64 core + 1TB ram, zet je deze servers in meerdere datacenters of niet.

Op de vraag in welke datacenters plaatsen is ook moeilijk te antwoorden, wil je low budget of high end, wil je locaties met bepaalde IXP's, transit of transport. Enige wat ik kan zeggen is dat afhankelijk van locatie en datacenter group prijzen tot x2 of x3 kunnen zijn (of zelfs hoger) zelfs als het over zelfde rackspace, stroom en sla gaat.

Hier is jaren geleden net de omgekeerde keuze gemaakt van alles in eigen beheer te hebben en racks te huren met eigen servers, naar het huren van dedicated oplossingen en cloud, net om van het over en weer rijden naar datacenters af te zijn om telkens iets te moeten upgraden of herstellen.
