How to change customizable options

The options are very easy to change. It’s declared in the first part of script above. These are their meanings:

showImage: Do you want to show thumbnail? If yes, set it true, if no, set it false.

Install Windows 8 From External Hard Drive

There are several number of ways to install and test the latest Windows 8 on your Computer, including install Windows 8 from USB flash drive, install Windows 8 from ISO file, install Windows 8 on VirtualBox, install Windows 8 on VMware, etc. So this tutorial will show you how to install Windows 8 from external hard drive.

The advantages of using this method is that we are not formatting the drive to make it bootable. So, if you have any data on your external hard drive, you need not worry! But we recommend a backup of critical data on the external hard drive just to be on the safer side.

Procedure:

Step 1: Connect your external USB hard drive that you want to use as installation media to the PC and backup the data to a safe location as the drive will be erased in the later steps.

Step 2: Open Computer, right-click on the external hard drive icon, and then select Format option to open Format dialog box. Select File System as NTFS, select Quick Format option and click Start button to do a quick format of the drive.

Click Yes for the confirmation prompt. Once the format is done, you will see “Format Complete” message. Click Ok button.

Step 3: We assume that you have a Windows 8 ISO file. You need to extract the ISO file contents to the root of your external drive. To do this, you need 7-Zip (free), WinZip, or WinRAR software.

If you have any of the above mentioned zip utility on your PC, right-click on the Windows 8 ISO file and select Extract files option to extract the ISO file contents to the external hard drive.

NOTE: If you are using 7-Zip software to extract the ISO file, right-click on the ISO > 7-Zip > Extract Files option. Make sure that you are extracting the files to the root the external hard drive.

And if you have Windows 8 DVD, simply copy all files and folders of the DVD to the root of the external hard drive.

Step 4: Now open Command Prompt with admin privileges. To open the Command Prompt with administrator rights you can follow any of these steps:

A. Type CMD in Start menu search box and hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys simultaneously.

B. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories. Right-click on Command Prompt entry and select Run as administrator option.

Step 5: In the Command Prompt, type-in the following commands and hit Enter key after typing each command.

cd/boot

bootsect x:

(where “x” is your external hard drive’s drive letter)

(this is the message that you get once the process is completed)

Step 6: Exit the Command Prompt, reboot your PC and then chose external HDD from boot menu. That's all.

How to Repair Windows 7 Without Installation DVD Disk

1. Type create system repair disc in Windows 7 Start menu search box and hit enter.

2. In the resulting dialog-box, select your DVD drive. Insert a blank DVD into the DVD drive and then click Create disc button to start creating Windows 7 repair disc. Wait for a few minutes to complete the burning task.

3. Once you have Windows 7 repair disc, you can now create a Windows 7 recovery USB drive. Plug your USB flash drive and make sure that you have no data on the USB drive as we are going to format it.

4. Open Command Prompt with administrator privileges. To do this, type CMD in Start menu search field and then hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter. Alternatively, go to All programs, Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and then select Run as administrator.

5. In the command prompt, you need to execute the following commands.

Type DISKPART and hit enter.

Now, type LIST DISK and press enter to see list of disks attached to your computer. In the next step, you need to select your USB flash drive that you are using to create system recovery drive (in this example, we are selecting Disk 1).

From now on, type all the following commands one by one and then hit enter (again, please make sure that you are replacing the DISK 1 with your Disk number).

SELECT DISK 1

CLEAN

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

SELECT PARTITION 1

ACTIVE

FORMAT FS=NTFS

(Format process may take few seconds)

ASSIGN

6. Now, insert the previously created repair disc and copy all the contents (contains three items) to the USB flash drive. You have just created a bootable Windows 7 recovery USB drive.

Having a bootable USB is very essential, especially if you are a Netbook user. Using bootable USB to install an operating system (OS) not only makes the installation faster, but also saves DVD-Drive from damages.

Creating or using an USB drive to install Windows operating systems is very easy if you follow the below mentioned steps.

You need to use Windows 7 or Vista to follow this Guide.

Insert your USB (4GB+ preferable) stick to the system and backup all the data from the USB as we are going to format the USB to make it as bootable.
Open elevated Command Prompt. To do this, type in CMD in Start menu search field and hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter. Alternatively, navigate to Start > All programs >Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and select run as administrator.
When the Command Prompt opens, enter the following command:

DISKPART and hit enter.

LIST DISK and hit enter.

Once you enter the LIST DISK command, it will show the disk number of your USB drive. In the below image my USB drive disk no is Disk 1.

In this step you need to enter all the below commands one by one and hit enter. As these commands are self explanatory, you can easily guess what these commands do.

SELECT DISK 1 (Replace DISK 1 with your disk number)

CLEAN

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

SELECT PARTITION 1

ACTIVE

FORMAT FS=NTFS

(Format process may take few seconds)

Don’t close the command prompt as we need to execute one more command at the next step. Just minimize it.

Insert your Windows DVD in the optical drive and note down the drive letter of the optical drive and USB media. Here I use “D” as my optical (DVD) drive letter and “H” as my USB drive letter.
Go back to command prompt and execute the following commands:

D:CD BOOT and hit enter. Where “D” is your DVD drive letter.

CD BOOT and hit enter to see the below message.

BOOTSECT.EXE/NT60 H:

(Where “H” is your USB drive letter)

Copy Windows DVD contents to USB.

You are done with your bootable USB. You can now use this bootable USB as bootable DVD on any computer that comes with USB boot feature (most of the current motherboards support this feature).

Note that this bootable USB guide will not work if you are trying to make a bootable USB on XP computer.

Procedure:

01. Download Just Another Flash (JAF) on pc.

02. Connect your Phone with pc in PC-Suite Mode.

03. Open JAF and go to BB5 Tab.

04. Tick the following.

–1 Read pp.
–2 Normal Mode.
–3 CRT 308(Already Ticked).

05. Now Click Service.

06. Save the *.pp file on Desktop.

07. Open the *.pp file in Notepad.

08. In case the Phone is-

–1 Nokia s40 v3 then Search for 28 1 line and change it to 28 2
–2 Nokia s40 v5 then Search for 48 and change it to 48 2
–3 In case there is no 48 or 28 then add the Appropriate line i.e 48 2 or 28 2. to the first row.

09. Save the *.pp

10. Open JAF>BB5 Tab.

11. Tick the following:

–1 Upload pp
–2 Normal Modec CRT-308 (Already Ticked)

12. Click on Service.

13. Select the *.pp File.

14. After it shows Done, Select Normal Mode from the Drop Down Menu.

15. Phone will Restart and show “Test in RNDIS USB mode?” Press NO. This popup will be shown on every restart. This is normal..

Now we have successfully disabled the Nokia Security wall.

Edit Java Application And Games

Steps:

1. Copy the Java(.jar) application to the computer.

2. Open the *.jar file with WinRAR.

3. Browse to Meta-Inf Folder and Open it.

Firmware problem is the major problem of most Nokia Phones. Almost every nokia users specially nokia s40 phone users are fetching many problems. See the general firmware problems from below. If you are fetching one of those problems then you can solve this by flashing your Nokia Handset device.

General Firmware Problems

Here are the well known firmware problems. Read carefully and try to compare with your phone. If you do not care about these problems then your phone may went dead.

While opening media player you will see "Not enough memory".
You can't open eqalizer.
Some data of your phone memory may got damaged.
Customized themes, ringtones, wallpapers etc may went back to default.

Conect your phone to PC using data cable with PC Suite Mode
Now open OGM_JAF_PKEY_Emulator_v3.exe
Click GO

Select BB5. Then check on Manual Flash, Dead USB and Use INI

Select your phone model

You will see MCU, PPM, CNT, APE Variant become green

Now TURN OFF your phone!! And then click FLASH button after that press power button (don't hold it) on your phone and JAF will start flashing.

After finish flashing restart your phone (by releasing your battery and put it back)

Nokia 5130 XpressMusic's RM number is RM-495. You can find yours by pressing *#0000# in you nokia phone. Search and download latest bb5 flah files for your phone ( eg: 5130xm bb5 flash files ).

Or you can use "Navifirm" or "Navifirm plus" Named software to find flash files easily and quickly.

Flashing Procedure [Updating to latest firmware]:

Download, Install and Open Phoenix Service Software.
Connect your phone in PC Suite Mode.
In Phoenix, click File>Manage Connections.
Now click New.
Now select the type of cable you are using. If you are using DKE-2, CA-53 [N-Series] cable, select USB.
Click Next. It will find your product and say FOUND. If it doesn’t find any, you can try changing your cable type by clicking Back.
Click Next and then Finish.
Now your cable type [USB] appears in the connection list. Select it. Click APPLY and then CLOSE.
Now select File > Open Product.
A list of RM code will open. Select your phone’s code. For an example RM-638 for Nokia 6303i. Click OK
Now select File > Scan Product.
Your phone’s firmware info will appear at the extreme bottom of the Phoenix window.
Now go to Flashing > Firmware Update.
A window will open.
Click Refurbish.
Now your actual flashing has started. Don’t touch your phone or press any button until the flashing has finished. Also don’t touch your data cable and your computer system.
At the end Phoenix will tell you to remove your phone as the flashing has finished.
Now wait for your phone to reboot into latest firmware.

The flashing procedure takes 8-9 minutes, a lot faster than Nokia Software Updater. I flashed my Nokia 5130 XpressMusic within 7 minutes :)

Flashing dead phones [Which show only white screen on startup]

Note: You can install any firmware in dead phones whether it is latest and or the old one.

The procedure is the same for flashing Dead phones.
Start Phoenix. Connect your phone with USB Cable [phone is off at this time].
Click File > Open Product. Select your RM code from the window that appears. Click OK.
Click File > Manage Connections. Select No Connection. Then APPLY and CLOSE.
Now straight away click Flashing > Firmware Update.
Check the option “Dead Phone USB Flashing”.
Click Refurbish.
Flashing has started.
After some seconds flashing will pause asking you to turn your phone ON.
Press POWER button of your phone until backlight comes up.
Flashing will proceed.
Your phone will automatically start when the flashing finishes. After finish you can safely remove your data cable from handset.

Important Note: If you want to install another update to your phone after a new firmware is released, first remove the previous version you installed in C:\Program files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\, Just delete all the contents of Products folder before installing a new firmware.

This tutorial will show you the way to "Use PC Internet in Android Through WiFi Without using any software" or "reverse Tethering" without using any external software neither in your PC nor in your android phone. Yes you can do this on your own without spending money on purchasing a wifi router.

Normally Tethering means sharing your mobile data connection to some other devices like laptop or PC. But you must have thought of using your broadband internet connection in your wifi enabled device where no hard wired LAN connection is not possible.

So Follow the steps below to share your PC internet with your Android Device

Click on start menu of Windows 7 or vista and type 'cmd', then right click on the 'cmd.exe' application and click on 'Run as Administrator' option. If you are using Windows 8 then just right click on the bottom-left cornar of screen and Select Command Prompt (Admin).

Now set up a wifi access point with name 'funkywifi' with a password 'password123'.
For that you have to type the following command :

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=funkywifi key=password123 keyusage=persistent

Note: You can set any name to this access point by replacing 'funkywifi' with your required name.Similarly you can give any password/security key instead of 'password123' that must be a string with 8 to 63 ASCII characters.

If key Usage is specified as 'persistent', the security key will be saved and used when the hosted network is started again in future. Otherwise it will be used only when the current or next time the hosted network is started. Once the hosted network is stopped, the temporary security key will be deleted from the system. If keyUsage is not specified, it is persistent by default.If you want to keep the password temporary replace 'persistent' with temporary'.

Once the command executes successfully. You can check your newly created hosted network configuration by typing the following on the same command prompt window:

netsh wlan show hostednetwork

Now that you have configured the access point network, follow step no. 6 to share your broadband or lan connection.

Now that you have configured a hosted network named 'funkywifi', you need to start it by the following command on the same command window:

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Now you can check the same by opening either 'Network and sharing center' or by clicking connection button in right corner of taskbar.

To stop the connection type the following :

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

[Remember everytime you do this , all these commands except the commands in step 3 and 5 needs administrative privilages.Hence you should follow the first step for doing the same.]

If you don't like to type all these lines every time you start your network, then skip steps 2,3,4 & 5. You can save the three commands as discussed in steps 2,4 and 5 in three different batch files , which can do the same task if you run them as administrator.

If you are not familiar with batch files then simply create desktop shortcuts of these commands by following these steps.

To do this using batch files, type the command of my 2nd Step i.e, "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=funkywifi key=password123 keyusage=persistent" in Notepad.exe and save it as "sethostednetwork.BAT".

Similarly save "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" as start.BAT and "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" as 'stop.BAT".

Now to creat or configure a new connection you can right click on "sethostednetwork.BAT" file icon and click on 'run as administrator'.

To start the connection right click on "start.BAT" file icon and click on 'run as administrator'.
To stop the connection right click on "stop.BAT" file icon and click on 'run as administrator'.

If you want to change username and password just right click on the "sethostednetwork.BAT" file icon and click on edit option. After replacing the existing username or password save it.

Now this is an important step without this you can't share your laptop internet. For doing this go to 'Network and sharing center' and click on 'Change adapter settings'. If you find it difficult to find it, just type 'Network and sharing center' as search phrase.

Identify your broadband connection or your PC internet connection (for me it is 'Local Area Connection') , right click and goto properties and then click onto sharing tab. Check the "Internet Connection Sharing" button and select your home network connection from the given options in the same tab for me it is "Wireless Network Connection 2".Now click ok and you are done.

:P Not yet !!

Once you can see your hosted network in 'Network and sharing center', go to Settings>Wireless and network>Wi-Fi Settings in your android device , and tap on "Turn on Wi-Fi" button. It will automatically detect your PC/Laptop wifi network. On clicking the same connection in your mobile you only have to give the password and tap on 'connect' button.

Once connected you can use your PC/Laptop internet.

Install PHP and MySQL on Windows to create a local PHP MySQL dev environment

Whether you are a seasoned PHP/MySQL programmer or a beginner, you will benefit from having a development environment. A development environment allows you to test your code as you develop your web application before publishing it to the web. The following Power Tip will guide you through setting up a PHP, Apache, and MySQL development environment. Additionally, it will demonstrate how to take advantage of the UEStudio features that will make your PHP/MySQL developement easier.

Create a Local PHP MySQL Development Environment

Note: IDM Computer Solutions, Inc does not provide technical support for Apache, PHP, or MySQL or the installation of these technologies on your system. This Power Tip is intended as an introduction to configuring Apache, PHP, and MySQL on your system in use with the PHP,MySQL, and development functionality in UEStudio.

Step 1. Download the installation files

You will need to download and install the windows version of the installers for each of the below components:

Apache

Apache is the HTTP (Web) server software. http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi

PHP

PHP is the general-purpose scripting language, especially suited for Web development, that we will be using. http://www.php.net/downloads.php

MySQL Server

MySQL is the database server/software we will be using.

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html#win32

Step 2: Install Apache

Run the Apache install file. You will need to follow the prompts and respond accordingly. When you reach the window that asks for server information, you may enter the following:

Network Domain: localhost

Server Name: localhost

Administrator Email: (any email address)

Also ensure the "for all Users, on Port 80, as a Service -- Recommended" is checked.

For this Power Tip, we chose the default options and the default server isntallation path:

c:\Program Files\Apache Group\

Continue clicking "Next" until the installation is complete.

If Apache has been installed correctly, and the server is running, you can type "localhost" in the address bar of your browser. You should see "It Works!" displayed in the browser.

You may also see the apache icon in your system tray:

When you hover your mouse over the icon, you should see that the services are running. If they are not, you can click on the icon and start the service.

Step 3: Install PHP

Run the PHP installation file which you downloaded in Step 1.

For the purposes of this Power Tip, we have selected the default installation path for PHP, which is:

C:\Program Files\PHP\

Click "Next" until you reach the "Web Server Setup" screen. Here you will need to select the appropriate server. Since we installed the Apache 2.2.xx version of Apache, we have selected "Apache 2.2.x Module":

The next screen is the "Apache Configuration Directory", here you will need to browse to the location of the Apache configuration directory. Because we installed Apache to the default location, the path we browsed to was:

C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\conf\

You will be prompted to choose the items you would like to install. PHP does not, by default, install the MySQL database components. You must therefore expand the "Extensions" tree and navigate to MySQL and enable it for installation:

You will then click next and install. The PHP installer will then complete the installation.

You will be prompted as to whether or not you would like the installer to configure Apache, click on "Yes". You should then see the the Apache configuration file has been successfully updated:

Click Ok, then click on Finish.

Verify that PHP is running

To ensure that PHP is running on the server, you can create a php file with the following contents:

Save the file as "phpinfo.php" in the "htdocs" directory in the Apache installation directory, if you used the default installation path it would be:

C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs

Now, in your browser, type:

http://localhost/phpinfo.php

You should see the a PHP information page displayed. You may need to restart the Apache service for PHP to be active. You can restart the service from the Apache icon in the system tray or from the Apache group in the start menu.

If PHP is not running, you may check the Apache error log for further information about the errors. The error logs are located in the "logs" directory in the apache installation directory.

Note: in order to run PHP/MySQL with apache, we had to copy the "php_mysql.dll" to c:\WINDOWS, and the "libmysql.dll" to the c:\WINDOWS\system32. You will find these dlls in the ext directory in the PHP installation directory.

Step 4: Install MySQL

Run the MySQL installation file which you downloaded in Step 1.

Select the option for the "Typical" isntallation

You will then click on "Install".

When the installation is complete, make sure the option for "Configure the MySQL Server Now" is checked (enabled) then click "Finish".

The MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard will be launched. Click "Next" until you are prompted for the configuration type. For the purposes of this Power Tip, we have selected the standard configuration:

Next you will be asked to select the windows options. We have chosen the default options, however we have also enabled the option to "Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH" to allow for command line options.

Next you will be prompted to create an administrator (root) password:

Create a password then click "Next". You will then click "Execute" to complete the configuration.

Note: if you are running the Windows Firewall, you may need to temporarily disable it prior to clicking on Execute. If you do not do this the wizard may not be able to finish the configuration. You can disable the firewall in the Windows Control Panel.

Create a Database

To create a database using the command line you will need to open the Command Line Client from the MySQL program group in the windows start menu.

When you open the client, you will be prompted to enter the password for the root account. This is the password that was previously configured. Type the password and hit Enter.

You should see that you have entered the MySQL environment:

To create a database, type the following command:

CREATE DATABASE uestudio_sample;

where "uestudio_sample" is the name of the database. Note: be sure to include the semi-colon at the end of the command.

If the command is successful you will see something similar to:

Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)

You may verify that the databases have been created by using the "Show Databases" command. If you type, "Show Databases;" and hit enter, you should see something similar to:

Create a Table

For the purposes of this Power Tip, we will create a table called "names" that includes the following fields: key, first, last. You may create this table using the following steps:

Type:

USE uestudio_sample;

This will tell MySQL which database to use, then type:

CREATE TABLE names (id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, first VARCHAR(48), last VARCHAR(48), PRIMARY KEY(id));

We will not cover the syntax of the command (above) in the scope of this Power Tip.

If you wish to see the structure of the table, and confirm it was created correctly, type:

Describe Names;

You should see something similar to:

Now, we need to insert sample data into our table. For example, if we want to create an entry to insert the name "John" (first) "Smith" (last) into the table "names", we would do so using the following command:

INSERT INTO names (first, last) VALUES ('John', 'Smith');

You may insert additional data by modifying the VALUES. Because the id is an "auto increment", we do not need to specify a value for this field.

To display all the data in the table, simply type:

SELECT * FROM names;

Because we inserted a few other names into our table, the query produced the following results:

Create a User

Now that you have a database, and data, you will want to create a user (account) that will be used by the server (php) to connect to the database. You may access the database with the "root" account, however this is not typically recommended.

To create a user account you will need to use the following command line:

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on uestudio_sample.* to idm@'localhost' identified by 'helloworld';

"idm" is the Username and "helloworld" is the password for the user.

Step 5. UEStudio and PHP/MySQL

PHP Support

UEStudio has built in PHP support, which allows you to run scripts, check syntax, and more. If you are interested, you can click here to learn more about the PHP support.

Click on the PHP Commands icon on the script toolbar to configure the PHP support:

Select the option for "Select PHP Executable", you will then browse to the location of the "php-win.exe" in the PHP installation directory. If you installed to the default path, the php-win.exe would be in

c:\Program Files\PHP\.

After you have selected the executable, you can use the PHP options from the PHP Commands. Simply open a PHP file then click on the options from the PHP Commands icon.

UEStudio offers additional options that make developing PHP Scripts easier, but before we demonstrate those options we will create a sample PHP script that we can work with.

Programming in PHP is not within the scope of this Power Tip so we will not go into great detail about the script below. This script is simply provided as an example.

The script below will connect to the "uestudio_sample" database running on localhost. This is the database we created earlier. The script will retrieve all the data from the "names" table and output the results in an HTML table.

If you used different values for the variables, you would need to change them for the script to work according to your environment.

Create and save the "sample_script.php" in the htdocs directory, which is the same location as the phpinfo.php script from above. If you click on the "Run Script" from the PHP Commands, you should then see the output of the script in the Output window.

If you would like, you may use the other available commands from the PHP Commands.

To see the contents of the script in the web browser, type http://localhost/sample_script.php in your browser. You should see something similar to:

Create a Project

It is not neccessary to create a project file to develop using PHP/MySQL in UEStudio, however there are added benefits to creating a project. If the files you are editing are part of a project the built-in parser will parse the PHP script giving you a visual representation of the components of the script.

To create a project go to Project->Create New Project. Name the project then click Save. When the Project Settings dialog is presented, click on the Add File button and add the "sample_script.php" to the project.

To view the parsed representation of the file, click on the Files tab in the Workspace manager. If the Workspace manager is not open, you can open it in View->Views/Lists->Workspace Manager. Using the sample_script.php, you should see something similar to the below parsed representation:

By adding the file to the project, you may also use some of the functions from the IntelliTip Toolbar such as the Find Symbol Definition, Display Functions,

For a single file, such as this example, there is not much advantage for this. However, if you are using an object oriented style of PHP programming, and your project includes many fies, you may see something that looks more like:

As you can see, with a large project, this feature can be very helpful.

Link local to remote

If your local development environment is intended to "mirror" your "live" environment, you can link a local folder to a remote folder. This will allow you to sync or upload/download files between the local and remote folder.

How to Host PHP Scripts on Google App Engine

By adding Java to their App Engine, Google has opened the door for a whole slew of languages that have been implemented on the JVM, now including PHP via Quercus.

This very useful tutorial is deployed on GAE.

I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by how effortless it was. OK, it's a very rudimentary PHP application, the only PHP code used was to run the examples described on the code blocks and do some includes; nevertheless I didn't feel the need to change a single line of code.

Also, deploying a Java application to GAE is simpler than a Python one. Not only because you have a very handy Eclipse plugin, but you will also find configuring the file appengine-web.xml a lot easier when compared to app.yaml.

Requirements

Download and install Java SE JDK.
Download and install Eclipse for PHP Developers.

Build a GAE Web Application project

Create your application on Google App Engine.
Install Google Plugin for Eclipse and restart your Eclipse.
From the new project dialog choose "Web Application Project". The complete project directory structure looks like this:

The application element must match the application identifier of the application you created on step 1.

Test & Deploy your application

Run your application using the Run As » Web Application command and point your browser to http://localhost:8888/.

Finally, press the Deploy App Engine Project button to deploy to Goole App Engine and point your browser to your application root to see it in action http://my-application-id.appspot.com/.

You may get an error suggesting you to use --enable_jar_splitting switch. This happens when Google founds a jar file too large to upload.
To fix this, open the command line on your project root folder and execute the following command: <path-to-appengine-java-sdk>/bin/appcfg.cmd --enable_jar_splitting update war.

Creating Your Own PHP Functions - PHP MySQL Tutorials

Step 1

What is a function? A function in its simplest form is a set of instructions. We call it (usually feeding data into it at the same time), and it either outputs something, performs an action or returns the result of the instructions to the script. Most of the time we use PHP's built in functions, such as md5(), explode(), preg_match()etc. But sometimes it is useful for us to create our own functions to use in the same way we do the built in functions. A function has several basic parts:

The identifier, this is the "name" of the function, and it is the keyword required to call the function where it is required. This can me something like myfunction, in which case the function would be called with myfunction().
The parameters, these are the arguments the function takes when it is called, and are listed from left to right as first, second, third parameters. For example, the function myfunction($foo,$bar) has two parameters, $foo and $bar. $foo is the first, and $bar the second.
The body of the function, this contains the statements that the function executes when it is called. These can be anything you wish depending on the purpose of the function.

Step 2

Why use them? User-defined Functions are a very important part of coding any sizable application, they allow the coder to write less code, and makes changes to one part of a complex program much faster and more effectively than with basic procedural code. The main reason for this is that it allows you to re-use the code that you have already written, for example, say you have an operation that takes ten lines of code to achieve each time it's called, by making this code a seperate entity and using it every time those statements are required you avoid repetition of code and thereby reduce the total number of lines more and more drastically the more times the function is required.

Step 3

To create functions we use the keyword "function". This keyword tells the PHP engine that the next block of code will be a custom function. After this we name the function, then add the parameters in brackets and then define the content of the function within curly braces. Here is an example of a custom function:

Calling functions: In this example we have made a function that creates an array of random numbers, we can then call the function with randarr(), the name of the function. For example, if we saved the above code in a file called funcs.php then we might call it like so:

Optional Parameters: In many cases we do not want to define all of the parameters every time we execute the function, and to facilitate this we use optional parameters. To create an optional parameter we simply assign the parameters a default value when we declare the function using the = (equals) operator. In randarr the second two parameters ($min and $max) are optional parameters, and the function can be called without them. If we wanted the function to use our default range of 0-100 then we would call the function like this:

We could also call the function with only one of the optional parameters, but the first parameter is required every time you call the function. Attempts to call it without non-optional parameters will cause an error. As you can see, by placing that function in another file and using require_once() to include it into other pages we can create these arrays in two lines instead of the four it would take otherwise.

Step 6

Applications of Functions: You can apply functions to larger applications too. For example, you may require a library of common functions for a web application, and place them all in one globally included file, or extend functions into class methods with Object-Oriented coding. Once you understand functions many long and previously complex programs become simple to write and maintain. And that's all you need to know about functions :-)

Auto Detecting PC or Mobile and then Redirecting - PHP code

Most mobile websites make use of the HTTP header called “User-Agent”. This header tells the server what kind of web browser the user has. So, mobile websites usually look for the name of the device manufacturer in the User-Agent header. If it matches one of the manufacturers then the mobile optimized web page is sent.

How to Use Implement Frames in HTML - A detailed guide with examples

This is A detailed guide with examples of how to use and implement frames in HTML. Frames allow for multiple .html documents to be displayed inside of one browser window at a time. This means that one page has no content on it, but rather tells the browser which web pages you would like to open. With the addition of CSS and PHP, frames have become outdated, but if you wish to use them, read on.

Frames - A Generic Frame Page

Frames are most typically used to have a menu in one frame, and content in another frame. When someone clicks a link on the menu, that link is then opened in the content page. Here is a classic example of a basic "index" frameset with a menu on the left and content on the right.

Frame Set:

frameset - The parent tag that defines the characteristics of this frames page. Individual frames are defined inside it.
frameset cols="#%, *" - The width that each frame will have. In the above example, we chose the menu (the 1st column) to be 30% of the total page and used a "*", which means the content (the 2nd column) will use the remaining width for itself (70%).
frame src="" - The URL of the web page to load into the frame.

A good rule of thumb is to call the page which contains this frame information "index.html", as that is typically a site's main page.

Adding a Banner or Title Frame

Add a row to the top for a title and graphics with the code as follows:

FrameBorder and FrameSpacing

You've probably noticed those ugly gray lines that appear between the frames. It is possible to remove these and manipulate the spacing between frames with frameborder and framespacing. These attributes appear within the frameset tag.

Note: Framespacing and border are the same attribute, but some browsers only recognize one or the other, so use both, with the same value, to be safe.

frameborder="#" - Determines whether there will be a border.
border="#"- Modifies the border width.
framespacing="#" -Modifies the border width, used by Internet Explorer.

How nice would it be to make each menu link load into the content page? We do this by naming each frame and setting the correct base target inside "menu.html".

We first named the content frame "content" on our frame page, and then we set the base target inside "menu.html" to point to that frame. Our frame page is now a perfectly functional menu and content layout!

Noresize and Scrolling

It's possible to further customize the <frame> tag using the noresize and scrolling attributes.

Noresize and Scrolling:

noresize - Determines whether the frames can be resized by the visitor or not. (values "true" and "false")
scrolling - Determines whether scrolling is allowed in the frame or not (values "true" and "false")

We set the scrolling for our content frame to "yes" to ensure our visitors will be able to scroll if the content goes off the screen. We also set the scrolling for our title banner to no, because it does not make sense to have a scrollbar appear in the title frame.

Tips:

Frames can be simple and well-organized. However, they are usually viewed as unacceptable by most web designers.
Always set the scrolling and resize options to optimize load time.
Using a simple menu and content frame design can reduce updates to massive sites. Instead of updating the menu on each page, you could simply update the menu.html file and be done with it!

We search in the navigator.userAgent string the name of some mobile devices iphone|ipad|ipod|android by using the test method.The test() method tests if the string matches a given regular expression. It returns true if it finds a match, otherwise it returns false.
If the mobile variable contains true, we redirect the browser to mobile version by using the document.location instruction. It Indicates the URL of the current document in the browser.
If you need to implement mobile browser detection in other languages than Javascript,you can use the MobileESP open source project for PHP, Java, APS.NET (C#), and Ruby. The MobileESP project seeks to provide web site developers an easy-to-use and lightweight API for detecting whether visitors are using a mobile device.

People wanted access to the website complete even using their cell phone and the mobile version, so we were forced to disable this code on our website.

What have we learned? Two important lessons:

People hate when they get redirected to some "mobile version"and there's no easy way to visit "normal" version.
If we really want to reduce the bandwidth and complexity of the website, the redirect operation needs to be done on the server-side and not javascript.

Apply the proposed code EXCLUSIVELY if you are obliged and have the right reasons.
