The Webkinz Polar Bear is the first Webkinz that I ever bought for my kids. It was a birthday gift for my son and I figured a Polar Bear would be a good choice for a boy. Polar Bears swim in the ocean, eat a lot fish and they're pretty cool looking with all those razor sharp teeth and white fur. Being a Dad, I went with the most manly Webkinz that I could find.

That year, we had his birthday party before his actual birthday and wouldn't you know it, his aunt bought him a Webkinz Pug. You know the tiny little dog that fits in a purse. So the pug wound up being the first Webkinz that we adopted but the Polar Bear is still my favorite.

The Webkinz Pet of the Month for June 2008 is the Elephant. Be sure you don't buy a Webkinz Velvety Elephant by mistake. Only the regular elephant is the Pet of the Month.

Webkinz Cares

Webkinz and Walgreens have teamed up to create the Webkinz Cares program. They say it's a program to help kids.

Some Webkinz plush toys at Walgreens will now have a extra Webkinz Foundation tag with a special code inside. Enter the code into at the Feature Code Shop and not only will you get a virtual gift but the same gift will be sent to a random Webkinz World users. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Now I don't know if there's any charity involved or if when they say it's a program to help kids, they just mean that they're giving free stuff to random Webkinz World users, but I like what Ganz is doing. Webkinz World keeps adding new features, promotions and events and it isn't getting stagnant at all. My kids are just as interested in logging in now as they were a year ago and it's because Webkinz really does care.

Does Webkinz World Have Advertising?

Webkinz World really has never really had advertising. Sure there's lots of fake banners that say things like, "Go Outside, Buy An Outdoor Room". But these aren't paid advertising, they are more like little banners that remind you of the cool things that you can do in Webkinz World.

Well it looks like that's about to change. Because today when I logged in earn my son some KinzCash, I noticed that there was a new tab called "My Options" that was in the My Pets, Care Award area.

My Options lets you choose whether or not you'd like advertising to be displayed. It was nice of them to include the ability to turn the ads off.

At one point, I remember that there were experimenting with advertising for the Alvin and the Chipmonks movie. I guess that was a successful test and they're going to start doing it more often.

As long as the advertising is age appropriate and doesn't take away from the Webkinz experience, I'm all for it. With such high traffic, showing ads will make Webkinz a lot more profitable. And hopefully that will mean less down time and lag.

The Webkinz Green Gecko is kind of cool looking. And when it comes to Webkinz, cool looking is an important thing for my 5 year old son. He's in Kindergarten and getting his first taste of peer pressure, so the cute and cuddly Webkinz won't cut it anymore.

I think one of his classmates must have said that Webkinz are for babies or even worse, they might have said that Webkinz are for girls. Because for a month or so, my son wouldn't play with his Webkinz at all. But my wife says that all his friends have Webkinz and when they all get together for storytime at the library, all of the boys sneak off to the computers and log into Webkinz World. There's nothing babyish about goofing off at the library with you buds, so I'm guessing that the Webkinz bashing is over with.

And the Green Gecko is pretty boy friendly. He's green and a lizard, so he'll probably pass the coolness test until at least first grade.

This is a recipe for the Sandwich Maker so put your stove away. And if you don't have a Sandwich Maker, head of the W. Shop and pick one up. There are tons of Sandwich Maker Recipes so it's worth it.

Webkinz Recipes - Granola Bars

If you think your Webkinz is looking a little out of shape, then maybe it's time you stopped feeding him all those peanut butter and banana sandwiches. How about something healthy for a change? How about a Granola Bar?

Making homemade Granola Bars in Webkinz World is done with a stove. As usual, it's not how you'd make it in the real world and also as usual, any stove recipe can be made with a grill or a cauldron instead.

If your Webkinz Health meter is running a little low, it may be because your pet stinks. Well there's no way to really tell if your pet is smelly because there's no odor meter in Webkinz World but you can definitely boost your pet's health with a bath.

After adopting a new Webkinz, I always take it to the doctor for a quick checkup. Right after that it's bath time. Newly adopted pets are a little low on health so the bath does them some good.

I like to start with a little bubble bath in the tub. All you do is click on the bottle a few times and you've got bubbles. Next, click some shampoo and the sponge and your pet will be lathered up. Then you can either pop the bubbles one by one or use the shower head to rinse off. Toss in the rubber ducky for a little playtime and then click the all done towel. It must be a very good towel because you don't have to blow dry your pet. But who knows, maybe all of these Webkinz rooms smell like wet Webkinz. Like I said before there's no odor meter so you can never be sure.

Giving your Webkinz a bath is good for their health but it's also fun to do.

They say that money can't buy you happiness but a ton of KinzCash will definitely buy you some pretty cool things. Want some Webkinz Clothes or a fancy room, you'll need some KinzCash.

KinzCash is the official money of Webkinz World. You can earn it by playing games and doing some other things too. Here are some tips and tricks on how to Earn More KinzCash.

Adopt Another Webkinz
Everytime you adopt a Webkinz, you'll get $2500. That's makes the US Dollar to KinzCash exchange rate about 250:1 assuming you buy a Webkinz for $10. Not a bad rate but there's much better ways to earn KinzCash that are free.

Wheel of Wow
Spinning The Wheel of Wow is something that you should do everyday. It only takes about a minute to do and every spin is a winner. You may not always win KinzCash but along with money there's food, clothing and furniture that you can win. And you could always sell anything that you don't want.

Wishing Well 2
Here's another daily activity that only takes a minute but if you do it everyday, you'll accumulate some decent KinzCash. Wishing Well 2 is just like The Wheel of Wow in that all you have to do is click a button and wait and see how much you won. What's different is that instead of spinning a wheel, you're filling in spots in a three by three grid and trying to get 2 or 3 in a horizontal row. Match 2 fruit (they must be next to each other in the same row) and you get $5, 3 fruits is $35. Match 2 pets and you get $10, 3 pets is $100. 1 Wishing Well is worth $5, 2 is $50 and 3 is $1000. Plus you get 3x those amounts if your matches are in the middle row. Do this everyday and by the end of the week you could have a nice chunk of change.

Get A Job
Click yourself over to the Employment Office and get a job. You can get a job once every 8 hours and the more jobs you complete, the more KinzCash you'll get. Don't worry, it's not like you have to dig a ditch or anything, jobs are very much like games at the arcade.

KinzCare Award
Give your pet the KinzCare Award everyday. Not only do you win money but food as well. And there's a bonus if you do it everyday of the week.

Gem Hunt
Something else to do everyday that will start to add up nicely by the end of the week. Go to the Curio Shop and do a Gem Hunt. If you aren't trying for that legendary Crown of Wonder, then sell any gems that you find. Some are worth a couple of hundred dollars.

Quizzy's Corner
Answering trivia questions at Quizzy's Corner is the most efficient way to earn KinzCash. You could earn a few hundred dollars each day just by spending 10-15 minutes doing trivia. And you might learn something while you're doing it.

Bingo
Play everyday (do you sense a pattern with these activities?) and there's a chance to win lots of KinzCash. It only takes a minute, so give it a shot.

Sell Unwanted Stuff
Let's say you spin the Wheel of Wow and win a Flat Screen TV. But what if you already have a TV in one of your Webkinz Rooms. Head right over to the W. Shop and sell it. In fact go through your rooms and remove anything that you don't want anymore and sell them too.

The key to earning more KinzCash is patience. Most of these activities can be done everyday and your KinzCash will add up over time. They don't take long to complete and they're fun too. Why with a little effort, you could be earning a couple of thousand dollars in KinzCash every week.

If you're in a decorating rut, a good place to get ideas is from room themes. Does this room look familiar to you? It's because it's very similar to The Winter Wonderland room theme.

To view room themes, go to the W. Shop and click on the Room Themes button. There you can select from one of the many themes there are to choose from. Then press the preview button. Best of all, if you like a theme, you're already in the W. Shop and can start buying what you need.

KinzCash - Bingo

Here's a tip to Earn More KinzCash that isn't a sure thing but it could still pay off big. You can earn big bucks playing Bingo if you actually win. The odds of winning probably aren't great but it doesn't take long too play everyday so why not give it a try.

There's three different varieties of Wacky's Bingoz games to choose from. One ball, two balls and three balls, where the ball total is the number you can draw per day. All you have to do is click the Bingo ball cage and see if you've got a match. For Two ball, you'll have to click twice and so on.

So like I said, probably not great odds of winning but how long does it take to click a few time. Who knows, you may win big.

KinzCash - Get A Job

Want to Earn More KinzCash? Then you should get a job.

Yes, just like in the real world, if you want money to buy cool things you'll have to work for it. But unlike the real world, jobs in Webkinz World are fun.

First you'll need to head over to the Employment Office and see what's available. You can only do a job once every 8 hours so don't think that you'll be able to moonlight and earn twice as much money. The jobs are a lot like the arcade games but there's a time limit to finish them. For example, you may have to make hamburgers or paint a fence. Make enough hamburgers or paint enough fences before the clock runs out you'll earn some money.

And just like in the real world, you'll have to be qualified to do some jobs. They won't let you work in the mines until you've collected a certain amount of gems playing Gem Hunt at the Curio Shop. Other jobs require that you've already answered a bunch of questions on a certain topic at Quizzy's Corner. But if you're new to Webkinz don't worry, there's still some entry level jobs that anyone can do.

KinzCash - KinzCare Award

Here's another Webkinz activity that if done daily, will help you Earn More KinzCash. But what's good about the KinzCare Award is that you not only earn KinzCash but you get some free food as well.

Here's how you do it. You know that area on of your Webkinz screen that shows you the Health, Happiness and Hunger meters? There's a little button underneath the meters that says "My Pets...".

Click "My Pets..." and you'll be taken to a screen that shows you all of your Webkinz and how they're doing on their Health, Happiness and Hunger meters. If you have more than one Webkinz, I'm sure you're already familiar with this screen because it's used to switch your active pet.

Next you want to click on the tab at the top of the screen that says Daily KinzCare. This is the Webkinz KinzCare Award screen. Come here everyday and click on the button that says, "I Love My Webkinz". The first time you visit you'll be awarded 10 dollars in KinzCash and a treat for you Webkinz to eat. Then tomorrow give you pet the KinzCare Award again and you'll get 15 dollars in KinzCash and more food. Each day you visit you earn more KinzCash and another snack. There's also a bonus if you visit 7 days in a row (Monday through Sunday).

The Webkinz KinzCare Award takes less than a minute so make sure you do it everyday. And at the end of the week take all of your snacks and see if you can make a Webkinz Recipe.

Now that the holiday season is over it seems like there isn't as much Webkinz news.

Here's an article that only mentions Webkinz as a competitor to Club Penguin but it has some interesting statistics.

20 million children and teenagers will visit virtual worlds by 2011, up from 8.2 million in 2007.

Disney is investing in the future by doing things like buying Club Penguin.

This is a story about NetSmartz, a new program aimed at protecting kids online.

NetSmartz offers age-appropriate resources, lessons and hands-on activities about Internet safety for grades kindergarten through 12, as well as for teachers and parents

I'm going see if they do something like this at my kid's school.

Funny little story about buying Webkinz Clothes. I can relate to this one.

Yahoo tech has some ideas about how you can monitor your kid's social networking. Too much is just as bad as not enough.

KinzCash - Gem Hunt

Gem Hunt is another great way to make money everyday in Webkinz World. Go to The Curio Shop and you'll be greeted by Arte. From there, click on Gem Hunt and go mining for a gem. All you have to do is click your mouse on a rock in one of the mines and you'll either get slag or a gem.

When you find a gem, Arte will offer to buy it. Rare gems are worth more but even the most common gems will still get you at least 20 dollars in KinzCash. Do this everyday and it'll add up.

Gem Hunt is another one of the things that you can only do once a day in Webkinz World. So remember to make it one of your daily Webkinz activities.

KinzCash - Quizzy's Corner

If you're looking to make some quick KinzCash, the best way to do that is to head to Quizzy's Corner and answer some trivia questions. If you're even just pretty good at trivia, you'll be able to make 100 dollars in Kinzcash in as little as five minutes. And don't stop there. Keep answering questions for as long as you can and you could see you KinzCash totals go into the thousands.

For every correct answer, you'll receive five dollars. Even if you don't know the answer just guess. If you guess correctly, that's five bucks. Guess it right on your second try, that's four bucks and so on.

The best part about Quizzy's Corner is that the questions aren't too hard and they're actually pretty fun. Some of the categories include Pop Culture, Animals, Fun Facts and The Environment. You'll be earning KinzCash in no time.

You could be neglecting your Webkinz and you don't even know it! Even if you visit Webkinz World everyday and make fancy Webkinz Recipes for your pet or play tons of games at the arcade or use all your KinzCash to create the coolest room possible, that may not be enough. What about your non-virtual Webkinz? You know that plush toy that you picked up at the store just to get the Webkinz Code? Well it needs some attention too. And what better way to spoil your pet than with some Webkinz Clothes.

Now they make great looking clothes for these guys and there's plenty of different garments to choose from. There's camouflage cargo pants, football jerseys and even a terry cloth robe if your Webkinz like to lay around the house on Sunday mornings. You can even buy real clothes to match the virtual clothes that you bought at the W. Shop. There's lots of options.

Do you wander around town completely nude? Well your Webkinz shouldn't have to either.
