Another week has passed, and the Council has spoken!

In the Council category, the winner this week was Bookworm Room with The Perils Of An Affirmative Action President:

My argument is that Barack Obama is one of the number of useless, mediocre people who, thanks to affirmative action, have been elevated to a position far above their natural abilities. The absence of grades is not the only indication of Obama’s intellectual weakness. (And believe me, if his grades were good, they’d be published in every paper in America, including the want ads.)

Everything Obama’s turned his hand to — except for using people to advance his career — has failed. The Annenberg Challenge was a $100 million disaster. His legal career was, to say that least, undistinguished. (I should add here that junior associates always have undistinguished careers. There’s just not that much scope there.) His tenure as an Illinois State Senator was marked by dithering indecision, coupled with the intelligent strategy, for a stupid person, of simply vanishing when the votes came around. The same holds true for his career in the United States Senator. If you examine those two tenures in political office without the gloss of the media love affair, all you’ve got is plenty of nothing.

Obama’s professorship at the U. of Chicago law school was equally undistinguished. He published nothing. His disquisitions on the Constitution show he knows nothing. That is, he doesn’t even have the true intellectual’s excuse of fully understanding, but nevertheless arguing against, the language of the Constitution itself or the standard interpretations of that language. I pity the students who had his class.

In the non-Council category the winner was The Rosistance for The Lawyer in the White House, the Spy in Federal Prison: Giving Away National Security :

The President is now going to give away our national intelligence gathering and analysis capabilities, as now “discovery” is in play, and you can bet the rest of the world will be clamoring for official transcripts of the trial, and full sets of all evidence, so they can discern how we finally caught them after we first let them do their harm to the nation and our society. The men who have cost this nation close to over 7,000 lives (9/11 and the military casualties), not to mention the tens of thousands who were wounded, and on top of all of that, the massive amount of spending to demolish, then reconstruct ships, and structures they destroyed. And don’t forget to add to that the spending, both governmentally and personally, in excess of just flying from one place to another, pretty much anywhere in the world, and the cost of the delivery of goods by shipping. Yes, airport/airline and port security are major costs we have had to bear because a few men think the entire world deserves to return the the salad days of living in the desert with tents and slaves from all other parts of the world they could easily reach, or take by force of arms.

Just as the disclosures by the New York Times regarding the tracking of terrorists by their cell phone signals put out our eyes, followed by the disclosure that the US was tracking money moving to the terrorists in the international electronic banking network put us in the dark again, the discovery process will be a very similar exposure of how we actually keep ourselves protected from mass murdering individuals and groups and other nations.

Council Notes: We currently have a seat open for a qualified blogger on the Council up for grabs.
Another week has passed, and the Council has spoken. Both of this week’s winning entries concerned the recent attack at Fort Hood and what it signifies.

In the Council category, the winner was Joshuapundit with Death By A Thousand Cuts :

For all our protestations and manipulation to avoid war,to forget, to appear humane and civilized, to allow our leaders to label it as something other than what it is, the war has come to us. In fact, it’s been coming to us for eight years and many of us have yet to admit it.

When I first found out about Major Malik Nadal Hasan gunning down his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood while shouting “Allahu Akbar” on November 5th, I immediately recognized this as the jihad attack it was and wrote that that when the dots were connected, there would be a Saudi funded mosque and a radical imam in the picture. There always is.

I was right. And yet, the obvious questions remain floating in the wind, unsaid, like a foul odor polite society avoids mentioning.

In the non-Council category the winner was the Watcher’s nominee, Selwyn Duke /American Thinker for Jihad and America, the land that cried sheep :

We have become a sick society, where fantasies are favored and reality is called “racist.” If there were an officer of Japanese descent in our military during WWII, he wouldn’t have lasted til the next day’s rising sun if he had expressed pro-Imperial Japanese sentiments. But that was then, when America was America, before she was sacrificed on the altar of the leftist dystopia in utopian clothing.

Furthermore, only a sick society would tolerate a far more dangerous fifth column: those traitors who, as Cicero said 2,000 years ago, appear not as traitors, who speak in accents familiar to their victims, who wear their victims’ face and use their arguments. I speak of those who wasted no time painting Hasan as a victim: writers such as Kenyon Wallace, who only emphasized the claim that the major was “harassed” by colleagues and theorized that post-traumatic stress disorder might have influenced this man who never saw a firefight until he started one at Fort Hood.

The Left has its collective panties in a knot over how unpatriotic people like me are because we found it highly amusing that that the IOC pimp slapped Barack Obama for his efforts to land the 2016 Olympics for Chicago.

And Lefty shill Glenn Thrush isn’t the only one. To Amanda Terkel over at Think Progress and Chuckles the Clown over at Little Green Footballs we were - wait for it - voting against America!

So, now it’s ‘unpatriotic’ to diss a sitting president who decided to grease out from under his responsibilities to go on a $10 million dollar plus roadtrip on the taxpayer’s dime in order to try to give his Chicago political homies a payoff of millions in graft by handing them the Olympics? Which half the people of Chicago didn’t even want?

To give you and idea of how much they intended to make, Mayor Daley and the Boys in Chicago spent $50 million of the taxpayer’s money to lobby for the 2016 Olympics. In terms of results, that works out to $3 mill per vote, a lot more per head than it costs to vote dead people and illegal aliens, hand out walking around money and stuff ballot boxes in Chi-Town during the normal elections these people are used to dealing with.

So, being revolted at the Chosen One’s irresponsibility and ego and being glad that the greedy pirates he’s in bed with lost this one is ‘voting against America?’

Puh-leeze.

I have a somewhat different view of the matter.

The list of Obama appointees getting the ax or having to be asked to resign is getting much to long to list . . . and, it’s growing still. Soon to find tire tread marks on his back is Kevin Jennings, President Obama’s Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Office of Safe and Drug FreeSchools who serves in the Department of Education. Mark Tapscott (he likes the ol’ Okie — see upper left of page!) writes at the Washington Examiner:

Kevin Jennings, President Obama’s Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Office of Safe and Drug FreeSchools at the U.S. Department of Education, is in hot water this week for having failed to report that a 15-year-old sophomore student in his school had told him of having sex with an older man.

But failure to report what appeared to be a case of statuatory rape of a child may be the least of Jennings’ worries. Lori Roman of Regular Folks United points to statements by Jennings a decade or more ago when he praised Harry Hay of the North American Association for Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), which promotes the legalization of sexual abuse of young boys by older men.

Roman provides damning details and links here. She also notes that Jennings wrote the forward “to a book called Queering Elementary Education. And another fellow you may have heard of wrote one of the endorsements on the book jacket—Bill Ayers.” Ayers, of course, is the Weather Underground bomber from the 1960s who is just an “acquaintance” of Obama.

Every presidential administration ends up with scandals inspired by controversial appointees, but typically those tend to revolve around financial improprieties, conflicts of interest, or some other form of white-collar misconduct. For Obama, the scandals seem to be developing in a pattern of disclosures revolving around radical left ideology that raises questions about their fitness for any job in government.

And that in turn raises the inevitable question: Is nobody minding the White House personnel store?

Mark has to revise his position just a tad and recognize that Hays was never a member or employee of NAMBLA, however he was a lifelong supporter of the group. Mark closes with this:

Jennings praise of Hay was not specifically in the context of the latter’s support of NAMBLA. Readers will decide for themselves whether it is appropriate for an individual who publicly praised an advocate of pedophilia to be appointed Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education for Safe and Drug-Free Schools.

I’ve decided for myself — it’s not at all appropriate for an individual who publicly praised an advocate of pedophilia to be appointed Assistant Deputy Secretary of Education for Safe and Drug-Free Schools.

It takes a village idiot to do something like that . . . just sayin’.

After ignoring eight years of political mudslinging directed at President Bush, Thomas Friedman has discovered the virtue of political civility. If Friedman every wrote a column condemning the likes of Michael Moore or Cindy Sheehan - or even his co-columnist Paul Krugman - I don’t recall it. I’m sure I didn’t see any columns of him criticizing Air America, Al Franken or those “Re-defeat Bush” bumper stickers. No, for eight years, Thomas Friedman was not bothered by the lack of political civility because he was on the side of the President’s critics, detractors and mockers.

But now he fears for President Obama’s life. How does he know? Because he lived through it once before. In today’s execrable column “Where did ‘we’ go?” he explains:

I was in Israel interviewing Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin just before he was assassinated in 1995. We had a beer in his office. He needed one. I remember the ugly mood in Israel then — a mood in which extreme right-wing settlers and politicians were doing all they could to delegitimize Rabin, who was committed to trading land for peace as part of the Oslo accords. They questioned his authority. They accused him of treason. They created pictures depicting him as a Nazi SS officer, and they shouted death threats at rallies. His political opponents winked at it all. And in so doing they created a poisonous political environment that was interpreted by one right-wing Jewish settler as a license to kill Rabin — he must have heard, “God will be on your side” — and so he did.

There is so much wrong with these paragraphs, it’s hard to know where to begin. For all the talk of harsh rhetoric coming from the Israeli right in 1995, he doesn’t recall that the rhetoric coming from the government against the right was just as harsh. Jeff Jacoby noted:

Only by the barest majority — 61-59 — did parliament vote last month to ratify the accord with the PLO. Two weeks earlier, a national poll found that 56 percent of Israelis rated the peace process “bad” or “very bad.” The world applauded Rabin — as now, heartsick, it eulogizes him — for his willingness to reach out in peace to the Arab enemies he had fought for so long. The final tragedy of this man is that he could not extend the same hand of peace to his opponents at home.

“They” didn’t distribute the picture of Yitzchak Rabi as an SS officer, Avishai Raviv, then a government agent did.

And in his appearance on the Ted Koppel’s famous “though shalt not kill” Nightline, Binyamin Netanyahu pointed out that when demonstrators shouted that Rabin was a traitor, he replied, “He’s wrong he’s not a traitor.”

But more than anything, Friedman himself contributed to the poisonous atmosphere in Israel. Seven months later, when Netanyahu was elected, Friedman declared “The bad guys won.”

I’m talking first and foremost about the one Israeli who got to vote twice. His name is Yigal Amir and he is the religious extremist who assassinated Yitzhak Rabin. Under Israeli law, even an assassin gets to vote. So last Wednesday, at the Ohalei Kedar Prison, Mr. Amir trudged out of his cell in shackles and cast his vote — no doubt for Mr. Netanyahu. What poetic injustice. First Mr. Amir voted with a bullet and then he voted with a ballot. Having murdered the one Labor Party leader who would have certainly beaten Mr. Netanyahu, Mr. Amir finished his work with an absurd legal flourish, sealing his ballot under the watchful eye of prison guards.

The problem with his premise is that it’s wrong. A reporter in Israel at the time of Rabin’s assassination had to know that the assassination did not help Netanyahu politically. His campaigning against Oslo was successful and just before Rabin’s assassination Netanyahu had pulled ahead of the Prime Minister in polls. Rabin would not have “certainly” beaten Netanyahu.

As far as Netanyahu’s campaign against Oslo goes, here’s what Netanyahu wrote just before Oslo was signed.

Astonishingly, this bizarre proposal that would result in Lebanese-style terror havens alongside Israel’s cities was negotiated without carefully consulting Israel’s military command. Deputy Chief of Staff Amnon Shahak was first shown the plan only minutes before it was brought to the Cabinet for approval. Chief of Staff Ehud Barak confesses that it poses “grave security problems” for Israel. But the greatest danger of the Rabin-Arafat plan is not terrorism but a full-fledged war that could be launched against Israel from the P.L.O. domain once it is formally recognized as a new Arab state. Indeed, the foundations of such a state are laid by Israel’s consent to cede the land and all legislative authority within it to the P.L.O. As Yasir Arafat said on Thursday, “The Palestinian state is at hand and the Palestinian flag will soon fly over Jerusalem.”

The second paragraph came true - even without the PLO establishing a state. It happened in 2000 with the so-called “Aqsa intifada” and it was repeated in 2008 with the rockets from Gaza. Netanyahu in 1993 was a lot more prescient than Thomas Friedman has ever been.

That Friedman would write a column riddled with such distortions, hypocrisy and outright lies so soon after hankering for a Communist government is more reason why he ought to be considered the world’s worst columnist.

Sources close to the Zazi investigation said it is continuing at full throttle. “No one will tell you that we have our arms around this,” one source said. [snip]

One source close to the investigation said Zazi was a “committed jihadist” and that his plans were well advanced. (CNN)

I hope the authorities have this right, because it would certainly be a disaster if this Zazi is innocent. I think about a personal friend who’s family is from Pakistan. He is completely Americanized, runs a business, is married to a professional friend. I find myself thinking “what if my friend Ali were arrested and charged with terrorism?” I would find it impossible to believe. But Zazi’s friends say the same thing. Do any of you have friends or acquaintances from the Middle East, or whose families came from the Middle East? It makes you think. It makes me hope that the FBI, Homeland Security, and others have it right when it comes to Zazi.

Your approval ratings are plummeting and it’s obvious the honeymoon is over. The nation is in a fiscal crisis, with unemployment and a huge deficit of historic proportions. The dollar’s status internationally is threatened.Your administration has been directly linked with some of the most corrupt and radical elements in American political life and you’re at the final stages of a battle to control America’s healthcare, which doesn’t look like it’s going your way.

It’s time for a major decision on Afghanistan, your vaunted diplomacy is a colossal failure especially in the Middle East, and other world leaders are snickering at you behind their hands. Russia is increasingly aggressive and Iran has responded to that famous unclenched hand you offered by contemptuously testing new missiles as the knowledge of other previously hidden Iranian nuclear sites becomes public.

So whaddya do?

Barack Obama has the answer all right….road trip!

Yes, the president decided to bug out and vote ‘present’ by fleeing to Copenhagen, Denmark for the essential, urgent task of lobbying the International Olympic Committee to make Chicago the site of the 2016 Olympics.

And he’s taking Michelle and Oprah with him. That’s not unexpected, given that Obama has spent more time with Oprah than he has with General McChrystal, the commander he appointed to make sense of the mess in Afghanistan. For that matter, forget about Oprah - he’s probably spent more one-on-one time with David Letterman then with McChrystal.

This little excursion is a presidential payback to Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, who expects that he and his cronies can expect to make millions on the deal. It will involve no less than two other luxury 757’s including Air Force One - one for backup and communications , and another for Michelle and her multi-million dollar entourage, not to mention Oprah’s people.

This doesn’t include the cost in man hours for the dozens of staffers employed in taking care of every detail, or the several Air Force cargo planes that precede the president’s party and are loaded with security personnel, armored limos, communications gear, and other vital supplies like extra arugula and spare stocks of $100 per pound wagu beef should the president or his guests not find Danish cuisine to their liking, or just want a special little snack to remind them of home.

This particular road trip will cost the American taxpayer at least $10 million dollars and probably more..but who’s counting?

I was raped when I was 14 years old, by a boy of 16. I was not drugged or sodomized - thank God - but it was still rape. Rape-rape.

I could not imagine what it would be like to be drugged and raped by a man of my father’s age. As it was, my parents were excellent at protecting me from all the weird uncles who populated my mother’s side of the family. The idea that one of them might have done that to me… unimaginable.

To be violated by an adult, a person of responsibility - a person of some acclaim - would be terrible. It would be like being touched in church, and not having your parents believe that Father O’Grady could ever do such a thing.

I do however know what it’s like to have my peers tell me it’s no big deal. That it shouldn’t matter. That it’s over, don’t raise a stink about it. Or, better yet: That he didn’t mean it.

This behavior has always baffled me. Why is it ok to be raped, just because the other person is older/stronger/richer/more famous than you are? Why do people stand up for the rapist, but not the raped?

What the hell is wrong with Whoopi Goldberg?

“I know it wasn’t rape-rape. It was something else but I don’t believe it was rape-rape. He went to jail and and when they let him out he was like ‘You know what, this guy’s going to give me a hundred years in jail I’m not staying,’ so that’s why he left.”

Roman Polanski left because he’s a guilty, cowardly rapist, Whoopi. A hundred years in jail, of being anally raped like that 13 year old girl was, would be just the thing for him.

I don’t see Whoopi as being a huge fan of cock - what if situations were reversed? How might she then feel about it?

This is Ted Kennedy all over again. This is anal-quiddick. This is what the definition of “is” is. This is Hollywood’s hatred of Elia Kazan.

If there’s a moral divide, you can bet your unraped anus that Hollywood will be standing on the wrong side.
