1. Reupload entire wordpress folders again
2. Make sure that the files user-edit.phpand users.php actually exists. If they are not existant this wont work
3. Reuploading everything often works

If you don’t always want to type /this/is/a/long/path/to/my/script you can simply put your shell script into /bin (Ubuntu 11.04) and then you can access it via scriptname. Here is a handy script to show octal permissions (755, 600, via shell)

Let’s say you have a script “statsme” that is supposed to show octal permissions. Octal permissions are 600, 755, 777 .. you know. Ok, now ls -l won’t show the octal permissions. That’s why you have to type stat -c ‘%A %a %n’ *

stat -c ‘%A %a %n’ * is WAY too long too remember. So I wrote a script to access it. But I also don’t want to always type the path to that script, so I put it inot /bin and can simply access it via statsme. NEAT!

cd /bin
touch statsme
chmod a+x statsme
pico statsme
INSERT THIS
stat -c ‘%A %a %n’ *
CTRL +X and confirm

Now you’re done and you can simply enter statsme and see all octal permissions. Handy!

If your disks are full yet again, you can easily increase the TMP partition with secureTMP.

1. Enter pico /scripts/securetmp into shell

2. Find
$tmpdsksize = 512000; # Must be larger than 250000

3. Change to a larger size
my $tmpdsksize = 2097152; # Must be larger than 250000

4.Enter the following commands:

umount -l /tmp
umount -l /var/tmp
rm -fv /usr/tmpDSK
/scripts/securetmp

Enter y two times

Wait until securetmp completes.

Check Service Status to see if the disk /tmp is now 2GB large. If not, redo again.

mysql activity report and munin - worth trying

If you run a few high traffic sites and you rely on tools like mysqltuner or tuning-primer to optimize SQL you can run into problems.

key_buffer_size is a critical setting for the MySQL database. In my case, mysqltuner said that my key buffer size was fine, but after doing some research I found out that it is generally recommend that the key_buffer_size is at least as large as all MyISAM indexes.

In my cases the key_buffer_size was set to the default value ~ 8M but my indexed were 100M large. I raised the value to be on the safe side.

1. Enter pico /etc/my.cnf and add key_buffer_size=200M
2. restart mysql
3. Enter mysqladmin variables to show the settings of your mysql instance

Check the value of key_buffer_size – should be larger now.

Just posting because I couldn’t find any good post on this.

The default value of key_buffer_size if you do not specify it in my.cnf for MySQL 5.0 is

8384512 bytes = ~ 8M

The default value is WAY too low for many servers – see my next post
