Facebook – Y U NO LET ME SHARE?

I’m a fan of sharing. It shows appreciation of the initial curator or poster by giving them credit and also directs some traffic towards their initial post (in case users don’t use this fab extension for previewing pictures without clicking them).

I initially observed the below glitch in Facebook UI on the iPad (using more Facebook on Safari rather than the much slower dedicated app) but today I got it on my desktop as well.

The issue is like this – if you happen to be admin for more than 8-9 Facebook pages (depends on screen resolution) there is no human way to scroll in that drop-down to select a page starting with U let’s say that you want to share content on.

Try it! I can no longer share stuff the easy way on pages at the bottom of my list. Here are some screenshots (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) to better understand what I mean.

Later update: 24h later seems that Facebook switched back to the drop-down where the pages are listed in a more space saving way (smaller page logos) and now you can scroll, like before. However the issue is still not fix on mobile Safar (iPad) – you cannot scroll in the list.

Am fost invitat la “Totul despre mame” împreună cu doamna mea și unul dintre puținii ploggeri* tătici – Dedi – cu un intermezzo cu Bogdana – câștigătoarea categoriei “Blog de părinți” de la RoBlogfest 2012. Înregistrarea, mai jos.

Ca o parenteză, mă bucur mult că Dragoș a adăugat categoria respectivă anul acesta – îmi place să cred că a avut și UrbanKid.ro o mică contribuție la oficializarea nișei.

Din “Blogging for parents, take #3″ anticipez:
- o ofertă mai clară și completă (tot gratuită) pentru părinții care vor să își împărtășească pățaniile pe un blog personal – deja sunt câțiva pe tu.urbankid.ro
(*) – posibilitatea de a vă alătura comunității UrbanKid.ro (chiar dacă aveți blogul la noi sau nu) în ideea de a ne face vocile auzite – de a organiza chestii faine împreună și de a câștiga atenția advertiserilor (pentru aceia dintre voi care și-ar dori să câștige și un ban cu blogul și implicit mai mult timp cu cei mici) – “PLOGS Network” (PLOGS = Parents blogs) :)

Vorbele îi aparțin unei doamne de 66 ani, “o româncă de la țară” – cum s-a autocaracterizat. Am cumpărat în seara asta câteva lalele, pentru fetele mele – de la aceasta doamnă – și bine am făcut. Inițial ma oprisem la o altă coșmelie unde cu disprețul caracteristic unui patron care n-are chef de un client la 22:30 mi s-a spus ca laleaua este 4 lei și atât.

La doamna din poveste, laleaua este 3 lei – și primiți o lecție de bun-simț gratis! Lucrează tot pentru patroni de etnie romă – dar aparent cu mai multe înclinații de customer centered business design – din moment ce au angajat o româncă – și îi dau și un salariu! și are și un plan! 66 ani.

Dacă nu v-ați făcut plinul de flori – vă îndemn să ii faceți planul – o găsiți chiar și acum – in Piața Iancului – chiar in dreptul intrarii de la supermarketul non stop White Jaguar.

Taxi 2.0 – free business oportunity

Premises: In this snowy weather I prefer not to use my car. So – if you have to run and get to lots of places/meetings – only viable option is to use a taxi. Even if I live in an European capital that has probably 70+ active taxi companies – it’s getting more and more difficult to find a taxi. And I want to find one on the phone and not walk with my 2y old through the snow and ice until the nearest taxi station. Some background information about my country – in Romania it is free to call for a taxi. I know in France it is not.

Also – calling for a taxi – prevents unwanted situations when the driver refuses to take you because the ride is to short (yes, this happens in Romania) or because you are not going in the area they want to end up in.

Tip (for Romanian companies): Taxi companies in Bulgaria firstly ask you on the phone “Where do you go?” and only after that “Where should we pick you up from?”. This way the driver knows from the start the whole route and makes the choice to take it or not.

Problem: Even if taxis are in my area the call-center does not answer or the drivers do not take my order – for whatever reasons – i don’t care.

Offline solution: I lookout on the window, try and spot 2-3 taxis that are free (green light on top) and identify their company and call them. This way I get more chances for a driver to take the order.

Online solution: Replace looking out the window with looking on a map. Convert drivers to active marketers that want to get clients and get them to send their location (via any mobile phone with a (A-)GPS). Eventually sign deals with taxi companies that track their cars on the map. Think about it: a basic web app for the taxi driver – “broadcast location?” ON/OFF – “broadcast taxi company name” ON/OFF – “broadcast personal mobile number” ON/OFF.

And of course, clients will be able to choose who to call based on who is available around their area.

Simple as that:

you a taxi driver? actively manifest your desire to take clients!
looking for a taxi in a very busy/crowded day/time – just see what free taxis, willing to take clients, are available in your area.

Sky is the limit with this – you could even un up placing orders with push notifications directly on the drivers phone.

Monetization? Should come after the site has usage – i.e. clients use it and depend on it. Both clients and drivers should be interested in paying a minimal subscription to be able to acces such a service…

Bucharest in the NYTimes

Since I took on the new challenge at getlokal.ro, but even from before – I started hunting articles on how foreigners see Romania and Bucharest and I have to say I am pretty impressed with finds like this:

Oh, and if you want to make friends and get on with the locals, heed the slightly exasperated but well-intentioned advice of a good-natured young waiter at Hanu Berarilor Interbelic: “Please don’t tell us how surprised you are that Bucharest is a nice city. We know that. You’re the ones who think it’s on Mars. Please skip the Dracula jokes — Bram Stoker’s blood-sucker is probably the least interesting thing about Romania. And please bin your old donkey-carts-and-gypsies image of Romania before you come.” All of which is to say that it’s a better idea to wait and riff on this intriguing city’s exhilarating strangeness once you get home.
