With cPanel, you can get a handle on junk mail using SpamAssassin. You’ll first have to enable SpamAssassin, and then you can either use the default Spam Box folder, or create your own filter in your mail client.

Enable SpamAssassin

SpamAssassin link in cPanel

Enable SpamAssassin by logging into your cPanel and clicking the SpamAssassin link. At the top of the page it will tell you whether it’s enabled or not. If it isn’t, click the Enable SmamAssassin button.

Enabling SpamAssassin and Spam Box

After it’s enabled, you have the option to auto-delete spam. Auto-delete is not recommended until you get an idea of the types of mail SpamAssassin thinks is junk; you don’t want to lose access to an important message!

A safer alternative to automatically deleting junk messages is to enable Spam Box. In this setup, your junk mail will be sent to a separate spam folder, which you can review at your leisure.

Finally, if you use your mail client’s built-in junk controls, you might prefer to set up a filter directly in your mail client.

Once you enable SpamAssassin, it should be pretty easy to get a handle on your junk mail.

There are costs associated with hosting your own WordPress site. Here’s what you’ll need:

A domain name. These typically cost around $10/year for .com names; other TLD’s may be more or less. You can check name availability at any domain name registrar site like Network Solutions. If you don’t have a domain name, you can secure one yourself or webonaire can do it for you.

Web hosting. You need a place to host your site. Hosting plans start at around $5/month, but you can pay more than that depending on the amount of storage space and any additional features you might need. You might budget $8-$9/month to be on the safe side. Your host should offer PHP, MySQL and Apache’s mod_rewrite module. A linux/BSD environment is preferable. If you don’t have a web host, you can secure one yourself or webonaire can do it for you.

Note that some hosts offer a one-click install of WordPress. If you decide to go that route, just make sure it installs the most recent version of WordPress and that it offers security updates soon after they are released

Once you have a domain and host, you’ll need to enter the name server (for DNS), typically provided by your domain registrar, with your host. From there it’s just a matter of setting up your MySQL database, editing the configuration file for WordPress, copying the WordPress files to your site, and running the install script.

If the above sounds like Greek to you, webonaire is here to help!
