I started an Adwords campaign for a shopping cart site about a month ago. The ads are pointed to dynamic urls, formatted as such:

http://www.mysite.com/index.asp?Page...=Custom&ID=123

The ads are running ok and the links work fine, but today I wondered how the natural results looked for these custom pages, so I hit "cached snapshot" on my google toolbar and none of these pages are showing up in the cache! Other, older pages are showing up ok, although they're not ranking well, which is why I'm paying G now. :(

If a bot crawls the page when I submit the Adwords ad, how could G not have a cached version of the page? Does it take longer than a month for these to show up?

Any insight much appreciated!

It seems that this is the oft neglected tag in on page search engine optimization. The 'title' tag IN a link can give you a tremendous ability to actually surround your links witK MORE CONTENT and keywords.
My tests seem to indicate that google gives preference to a link with a lengthy title tag over a link with no title tag at all.

A few days ago I got this error when trying to mount a windows share into a FreeBSD server.

mount_smbfs: unable to open connection: syserr = Permission denied

When I put the error message into Google I got every forum where this question was asked. Great! This question has made the rounds. Problem --- no one answered the question or even worse the question was answered incorrectly.

Anyone have any suggestions in how to eliminate unanswered post from a Google search. I found the answer on a Dragon Fly BSD forum which the original Google search never even found.

Is there perhaps a better search engine for these types of questions?

So since last week, google activated the local business results in some of our competitive keywords. Obviously this is a huge opportunity that should be seized by anybody.

Our country isn't listed in google lbc, but however there are already a lot of business already appearing in google lbc. How can they do that.. taking into consideration that our country isn't even listed when you register your business in lbc?? Is there any other way to register?

Thank you all for your kind answers..

Curses these subject lines with a limit. As I was trying to say: Can't set the preferred domain prefix in the G WMT area because it says I have to now verify the non-www version.

This is insane, and I'm not surprised. I was looking at the G WMT area and I see they changed the description of setting a preferred domain prefix. They used to say this was ONLY for how your pages APPEARED in the search RESULTS--cosmetic only. Now it says something different about the way they "follow a link" to your site and actually treating non-www and www IBL's to your site totally differently. We all know their dumb bot has been doing this for years, and looking at www and non-www as duplicate content, hence the reason for a 301 redirect. But this is the first I have heard about setting this once-cosmetic-only preferred domain in the WMT area for this reason.

So, even though I have a 301 redirect going to www, I thought I would set my preferred domain to the www version in the WMT area. Well, I CAN'T! I dot the area for www, and get this:

Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own http://***********.com/. Please verify http://********.com/.

 :?: WTF?? How in the hell can anyone "verify" a NON-www page when there is a 301 www redirect site-wide???? Furthermore, note that it is saying above that I have to verify the NON-www version, even though I'm directing to the www version. So, apparently trying to set a preferred version is totally useless for those using a 301 redirect!

I go to the verification area, and it says this:

Use this page to reverify all currently verified owners of this site.

Ensure the verification file or meta tag is still in place for your account.
Your verification file: google*****************.html
The meta tags or verification files below may exist on your site.

You are the only verified site owner.

Yet, it is still apparently saying that I have to verify the non-www version of my site. Brilliant.

So how is one supposed to set the preferred domain?? I know that even with this new description it still may not be necessary with a 301, but you know G, and you can't take any chances with them, they'll take any reason to penalize you.

Thanks Guys. ;)

Hi,

There is a website in my niche, which I've known about for a while. Without going into the fine details it is retailing fakes of a high end electrical brand directly from China.

The fakes are not CE tested and dangerous, and are being advertised as genuine products at a fraction of the retail price. Unfortunately a lot of people are falling for the scam and it has had an impact on sales.

Until recently the site had been using adwords and had no natural search results, but today I noticed that from nowhere it was now sitting at number 3 on a google UK search for the brand in question. For information this is a very competitive term.

I checked their link profile on yahoo site explorer and they have over 40,000 inbound links, which again have come from nowhere. I clicked through about 50 of the links and each time they are contained within a layer, which is set with it's x index at -300px, i.e. the layer is not visible on the page ,and are mixed in with about 10 links to other sites selling fakes of other leading brands in the same layer.

I have filled out a google spam report, with links to a small selection of the sites containing the spammy links and also mentioning that the products were fake and infringing trade marks.

The question is will this have any effect? Is there anything else I can do?

It's incredibly frustrating when you spend all your time building links and content organically and extoling the virtues of ethical SEO/increasing rankings over time and then you see a site just bulldoze its way into the top spots with a barrage of spam. If this was a genuine competitor, selling genuine products I would be unhappy, but the fact it is retailing fake products below what I can buy them at wholesale leaves me asking if it is all worthwhile.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
David
