href="http://websitereview.net">Website Review was very familiar with www.rottentomatoes.com before rating it. This site is one that many people frequent before venturing out to pay ever increasing prices at the box office. It has literally everything movies, from ratings, movie clips and trailers, top DVD rentals and newly released DVDs to picture galleries and quizzes. If you want to know something about a movie, this is the site to find it. The top menu includes Movies, DVD, Celebrities, News, and Critics. One of the best features that Website Review likes is that you can see ratings from movies goers as well as critics.

The main page of Rotten Tomatoes has a ton of information on it. Movies on this page are categorized by Top Box Office, Opening, Coming Soon, and Most Anticipated. DVDs are broken down into Top Rentals and New on DVD This Week. Also on the main page is a search window for you to find anything you’re looking for. Website Review likes how movies that are rated high are given a plump red tomato, while movies that are rated low have a green splat next to them.

The main page on Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t have any advertising, but on other pages there is some. The advertising is kept to the outer areas on the screen, so it hardly distracts from the content of the page you’re looking at.

Another feature Website Review likes is how if you click on the Celebrities tab from the main menu, it takes you to a page where it has pictures of actors that are starring in movies that are currently out. You can also look up virtually any actor and see all of their films, how they were rated and year they came out, and how they did at the box office. Each celebrity has a short bio of them and tells when and where they were born.

Website Review really likes everything on www.rottentomatoes.com. The information is up to date and there is tons of it. We highly recommend this site to anyone looking for anything to do with movies.

Rivals

Entertainment

Sports

Website Reviews

Rivals Review, a good site overall but one of the slowest sites we have reviewed to date. <g:plusone></g:plusone>

Website Review was familiar with www.rivals.com before deciding to rate it. This is one of those go-to sites for anyone who is looking for information on professional, college, and even high school sports teams. This site has a ton of information as well as interesting articles. The main landing page of Rivals is a bit busy, but easy to read. At times the advertising seems to blend in so well with the regular features that you find yourself reading it as if it were something you wanted to look at. This can get annoying.

Website Review likes how the main menu is so extensive. It has NFL, MLB, NASCAR, Boxing, Tennis, Action Sports, and everything in between. You can even get information on sports that aren’t popular in the U.S., such as cricket and rugby. Under the More tab, there are fun topics such as Rumors, Odds, and Most Emailed.

Website Review feels that one of the best features about Rivals is their blog. Some days there can be more than several blogs about a variety of topics. Some are serious in nature, while others are just downright funny. The writing is fun to read and many of the blogs are accompanied by pictures or videos. There are numerous people who blog for them and if you find one you really like, you can click on their name and it will take you to their other blogs. Rivals also lists how many blogs each contributor has written.

Just under the main menu is a Trending Now tab. This lists all of the latest popular topics people may be looking up, for example, certain athletes or spring training.

Website Review likes how the main page has a search window. This is a great feature if you’re looking to find something fast. There are also football rankings and a recruit search near the bottom of the page.

Website Review thinks all of the information available on www.rivals.com is worth the price of all the ads. For sports enthusiasts, this site can keep you busy for hours and you’ll walk away with all the latest news and information.

ubid

Business

Shopping

technology

Top Sites

Website Reviews

Next time you want to sell an item, skip the big guy lets help out a company that cares.

When Website Review went to www.ubid.com we felt it was a clearly laid out landing page. While it is no feast for the eyes it does what it has set out to do, and that is help people to buy and sell things. The menu bar on top has listings for All Categories, Computers, Collectibles, Electronics, Fine Art, Jewelry, Televisions, and Watches. There are also buttons available for Auctions Closing Soon, Most Popular Products, and Dollar Start Auctions. The menu on the left side of the site lists Categories, Popular Features, My Account, and Customer Service.

Website Review found some advertising on the site, but it was minimal and didn’t distract from viewing the rest of the information. The main page boasts over five million members and after some digging Website Review found out uBid has been conducting online auctions for over 12 years. It is free to create an account if you want to buy or sell, but you don’t need an account to look throughout the site. The uBid site currently services only the United States.

To get a feel for the amount of volume uBid does, we randomly clicked on Movies. There were 15 movies listed, and over half of them we had never heard of. Website Review then went to Electronics and found many more items. While uBid doesn’t seem as big as some of their competitors, the listing fees are free and they have sold over $2 billion in inventory since inception.

From the landing page it is easy to move around and easy to find things. On the main page there is a rotating picture of some items that are for sale. Below that there is a picture of deals that are ending on the current day.

Overall, Website Review feels www.ubid.com is a good place to go if you are looking to buy or sell something. While some competitors may offer more in the way of choices, from what we could tell, some of the bargains were really a good deal. You also can’t beat zero listing prices.

Hulu

Entertainment

Recreation

Top Sites

Website Reviews

If you are tired of paying for cable, then check out this website review!

When Website Review went to www.hulu.com we were pleasantly surprised. This site has movies and television shows from many popular channels, all available to view for free. With standard Hulu the last five episodes of many shows are free to watch on your computer, but for HuluPlus, the viewer has the ability to watch on a PC, TV, mobile phone, or a tablet. There is limited viewing until you set up an account, which is free and takes only seconds. The HuluPlus service currently costs $7.99 a month.

The main page of this site has a rotating screen on top with images of different things available to watch. On the top menu are Browse, Most Popular, Recently Added, Spotlight, and Recommendations. The Browse category is broken down in to TV Shows, Movies, Trailers, By Genre, Playlists, and Coming Soon.

The bottom half of the site has pictures of things you may want to watch and listings of Popular Shows and Popular Movies. The bottom of the page has recommendations from Hulu. Overall, Website Review likes how the main landing page looks. It’s not too busy or cluttered, and has a clean, fresh feel to it.

Under the Spotlight category, Website Review found Hulu’s blog. Although written by different authors, many of the blogs are laugh out loud funny. They cover celebrities, TV shows, music, movies, and all things relating to Hulu. From the blog page there are links on the right to connect to Hulu through social networking. There are also RSS Feeds, which include Recently Added Shows and Movies as well as Most Popular Videos of the day. If you go to the Most Popular Videos you can browse them and add them to your queue.

Website Review found one drawback to this site. During the show or movie you’re watching, there are breaks for commercials (even for HuluPlus). The main difference is that unlike TV, there is a timer telling you how long until the commercials are over. The commercials are not as long as on TV and it is nice to know how long you have until what you’re watching starts again. But if you need a longer break, you can always hit the pause button.

Website Review is glad we found www.hulu.com. It’s a great place to see any shows you’ve recently missed, or if you’re looking for complete seasons, the pricing seems very reasonable.

PSD Tuts Plus

Reference

technology

Website Reviews

Website Review Features PSD Tuts plus, learning Photoshop just got a lot easier.

When Website Review first landed on http://psd.tutsplus.com/, we thought the site had a great concept. According to psd.tutsplus, they are a blog and Photoshop site geared towards graphic artists. They offer Photoshop tutorials and also welcome new tutorials.

Website Review found numerous tutorials on many topics such as: 3D, Designing, Drawing, Illustration, Effects, Interface, and more. A good portion of the psd.tutsplus site is free, but for more tutorials a premium membership can be purchased. At the time of this writing the cost of the upgraded membership was $78 a year. The $78 includes access to all program sites which include Photoshop, Web Development, Motion Graphics, and more. There is a 30 day money back guarantee available to those who might change their mind about membership.

The main page offers the latest tutorials along with a description and star rating. There is also a place for popular posts as well as articles and even contests. The main page does have its share of advertisement, but almost all of it is related to things such as graphic design or photography.

Website Review found psd.tutsplus to be easy to use and easy to look at. The main page links to Tutorials, Articles, Tips, Sessions, Basix, Videos, and a link to purchase the premium membership. There are also links to Advertise, Write for Us, About, and Usage.

Website Review thinks this is a cool site even if you’re not into Photoshop. There are a lot of really good images to look at and get an idea of how they were created. If you go to one of the tutorials, you can see step by step how the designer did the image. It’s fun to see the image being developed from beginning to end. The interviews are also very interesting. The interviewee discusses how they got involved in graphic art and design, how they get their ideas, and more.

Website Review would definitely recommend http://psd.tutsplus.com/ to anyone looking to further their knowledge of Photoshop or for those interested in a specific tutorial. The site has many cool images and tutorials to choose from, many of which are free, although the upgraded membership may benefit professionals.

Icon Finder

Business

Entertainment

Kids / Teens

Reference

Website Reviews

Icon Finder finds its way into a featured site award

When Website Review took a look at www.iconfinder.com, we were initially a little disappointed in the main page. The landing page is a little bleak, to say the least. In the case of IconFinder though, don’t judge a book by its cover! Once you begin browsing through this site you can find a ton of fun icons. On the main page you can type in what you are looking for in the search bar, or click on one of the menu tabs such as Browse, Tools, Blog, About, Give Feedback, or Submit Icons.

Under the Browse tab on IconFinder, there are numerous icons to choose from. Most of the icons are free for non commercial or personal use. Website Review tried typing in about 30 different types of icons (dog, work, love, etc.) and there were icons for everything, although some categories had more to offer than others.

The Tools tab claims API, plugins, apps, and other useful icon related tools. The Blog section is a place to find information out about IconFinder, and it also offers tutorials and freebies. The Blog section lists the title of the blog as well as the first one or two sentences to give you a feel for what it is about. If you are interested in reading more, there is a button to click that will take you to the full article. There is also a button that tells you how many comments a certain blog has and takes you directly to the comment section. Website Review liked what it saw on some of the blogs. For example, before interviewing some icon designers, the community was allowed to post questions they may want answered. There was one downside to the Blog section. Website Review found no recent posts, and the blogs seem to be hit and miss as far as the dates are concerned. In other words, there is no steady stream of content.

Under the About tab, users can find information about the site, search tips, and information on how to become an advertiser. The advertising that is on the site is located on the right side of the pages and is kept to a minimum. It isn’t too distracting at all.

The About page of the site also has a place for recent comments. You can read what others have said about the icons and when they posted their comment. Other information available on this page is how to download their logo, contact information, how to buy swag, how to advertise, and traffic stats, which is kind of cool to see. Not many websites offer that information to the general viewing public.

The other two tabs for Give Feedback and Submit Icons are self explanatory.

Overall, Website Review loves the concept behind www.iconfinder.com. This site is easy for anyone to use and anyone can have fun looking at all of the icons. If you’re looking to spruce up a page or two, take some time and give this site a try.

Squidoo

Business

Dining

Entertainment

Games

Health

Kids / Teens

Recreation

Reference

Shopping

Sports

technology

Top Sites

Travel

Website Reviews

Website Review features Squidoo.com and creates our own Squidoo lens

There is so much one can do at www.squidoo.com! This site is a powerful publishing platform that offers users an opportunity to build “lenses”, otherwise known as pages, on any topic that interests them. Users can also earn money for themselves or their favorite charity’ all for free. Like all website reviews, the first impression starts with the home page. Accommodating Internet users who like to jump right in and those who like to poke around to gather information is key to getting an initial thumbs up. A cute friendly “squidmonster” smiles with delight ready to lead the way to get signed up while a list of sample lenses are available to those looking to do a little research first. Browsing for information is easy, creating lenses is simple, and earning money, points and trophies is fun and rewarding!

Gathering information for this website review was a easy as clicking the link at the top of the page labeled “What’s Squidoo?”. The squid team’s short and to the point explanations of what Squidoo is all about is a refreshing approach. There are tabs at the top of the lens guiding uses to more detailed information. A convenient tool bar appears at the bottom of every lens. Exploring more of what Squidoo has to offer is conveniently suggested in the fun stuff to do button. Because so many Internet users have more than just one favorite social networking site or ways they like to share information, the tool bar also includes direct links to some of those most popular among Internet users. Making it simple for users to share lenses on a variety of networked media is key to getting the word out there about Squidoo. This feature is clearly created by a king squid that knows how to become successful on the Internet!

When first time users start the process of creating their very own lens on this site, they will be pleasantly surprised to find out it is not just simple but super simple! Entering a user name, email address and creating a password is all that is required to start the process of building a lens. SquidU and Squidblog offer discussion boards, tips on how to make a stunning lens, become a successful lensmaster, answers to the most commonly asked questions and provide updates on the latest and greatest news from squid headquarters. The head squids running the show know that making the whole process of building successful lenses easy as can be is the key to encouraging users to build even more lenses and gain new users.

Offering the opportunity to make money without having to spend money is a big attraction for those looking to raise funds for their favorite charity or just to make some extra cash. Relevant advertisement and product placement options allow lensmasters to monetize their lenses raising money for their favorite charity or cash for themselves. When users log onto www.squidoo.com, they are directed right to their dashboard. There they will find the options to allocate royalties from each one of their lenses however they wish. Earning points for simple tasks such as logging on daily along with completing quests earn additional rewards and trophies encouraging users to have fun! Ablogtoread.com is the largest independently owned and managed source for watch reviews and information in the United States. With over 220,000 visitors per month Ariel Adams of San Francisco has created a tour de force that has captured the imagination of consumers, watch aficionados and watch manufacturers around the world.

The site’s recently added podcasts “for watch geeks by watch geeks” nicely compliment the reviews, discussion of technology, watch design and history, watch show coverage and news of limited edition offerings. Often the information reported on ablogtoread.com comes from first hand accounts of Ariel’s half dozen or so trips to Switzerland each year and presence at the world’s most important watch shows.

It has been especially interesting to observe the sites evolution over the last three years, as it has grown from a work of personal interest and passion to a site that commands the interest of prestigious watch manufacturers and experts around world. A curiosity and common question that Ariel receives is about the name ablogtoread.com and the obvious lack of “watchiness”. Ariel relates that at first he was unsure what the primary focus of the blog would be. Over time, as ablogtoread.com narrowed its focus to the watch industry and developed a worldwide following, he felt that to change the name would undermine the “acquired distinctiveness” the URL had garnered.

Ablogtoread.com has over 1,400 archived reviews, a watch buyers guide particularly relevant to online shoppers, podcast interviews of industry experts and the occasional and always highly anticipated watch contest giveaway. The site uniquely contains advertising that enhances and adds to the reading experience rather than distract. Links to Ariel’s articles at the Luxist make for interesting reading as well.

Ablogtoread.com is extremely easy to navigate and provides solid links to manufacturer sites and archived material.
