A couple weeks ago, after dropping off my sister at the airport, I got to watch the sunrise on the first day of 2013.  If you look closely at the picture, you should be able to see the top of Mt Rainier (Tahoma) just peaking over the horizon.

On 13 February, we’ll have the opportunity to usher in the (lunar) Chinese New Year; 2013 is the year of the Snake.  Wikipedia says that the Snake “take[s] crises with ease and do[es] not become flustered easily”.  Hopefully, this is an attribute we may all enjoy this year.

It’s a season for sloughing off the old in the most beautiful and graceful ways possible. It’s also time to harvest and savor the fruits of a nice hot summer, which is just what I did with some Italian plums.

I’ve put away three jars of spiced preserves and still have plums left over!  You can read about other foodie exploits on my blog.

In other news, I had a batch of exquisite business cards printed by MOO, right off my facebook page. They’re so luxurious to hold and they came in an elegant black card box. Such a treat!

While it’s meant sitting in front of the computer during downright gorgeous weather, it seemed only natural to freshen up the ol’ identity and website. (You may have noticed, yes?) Take a last look at the old interface:

What’s new? Oh, I don’t know, just everything!

It’s probably my cleanest and yet most advanced design yet, and I know I’m not going to miss the old one. I learned a lot in the process of crafting it, as I do anytime I crack open the HTML and CSS. Did you get the memo? I built this website by hand, from the ground up with no fancy applications. Check out my bangarang stylesheet!

My portfolio also got a super sweet facelift, with fancy drop down menus and everything. The (graphic-)designer freebies I make and share for the fun of it are in a smarter place, so you can find them even if you missed the announcement on twitter.

I’m still working out the kinks, so if you find any please report them to me on my new contact form. That’s likely my proudest feat in this whole endeavor. I think I might even relish the spam I get from it!

How’s your summer been? Send me a postcard, why don’t ya?

We of the Central District Artwalk had likely our most successful artwalk to date this month! A lot of our visitors were generated by a feature in the Seattle Times.

Atelier autumnthing has been a moderately productive place, too. I’ve been diligently (and slowly) continuing work on my fiber paintings. The feedback I’m getting from visitors is really reassuring. Thanks, you guys!

I think I finally have a solution for a finished presentation/framing. Ergo, I’ll be able to get pricing underway soon… Which means that you could someday own one of these:

Most of my working hours have been filled with painting and interior design install, helping my client prepare a new preschool space. Since all I have are some digity cell phone pictures, I’m going to keep you in suspense until I get better documentation… Unless you follow me on facebook

With the season’s advent, I have also been approached by several clients, old and new, for a wide variety of work, such as :

The best way to stay abreast of all my projects is to follow me on facebook.  There, I regularly post photos and updates about what I’m working on.

The biggest development—squee!—was that I moved into my very own studio a little over a month ago!  I’ve spent a good deal of energy sourcing furniture and lighting, and have been steadily moving all of my materials from home to there.

I held a Global Studio Warming and welcomed many friends and good vibes into the space.  Here’s a peek at my studio :

What’s new? Fay continues to enjoy my assistance with gardening, organizing, and interior re-design.  Causey’s Learning Center has employed my services for re-branding and ongoing content management for their website.

More recently, a new client found me via Facebook and hired me to create product pages and assembly instruction illustrations for his ingenious playhouses.  An old college peer contacted me for some logo work and to establish a basic website for his consulting company. For the holiday season, I crafted some really lovely—if I do say so myself—couture-quality ornaments and worked my first craft show.

…and how could I forget?! My portfolio has been supplemented with new images, most notably in the formerly empty photography section. I also now have some images up of the dance costumes I designed and constructed last May.

What’s new?  Fay continues to enjoy my assistance with gardening, organizing, and interior re-design.  After I finished painting her bathroom a bold, dramatic color, she got new skylights underway.  Pictures will be forthcoming when the dust has settled.

A fellow college alumnus contacted me for some logo work and to establish a basic website for his consulting company.  It’s been great to work with him as we’ve had a very dynamic yet fluid and upbeat creative process.  We’re about done with the project and I’ll update here with links soon!

Causey’s Learning Center just started their school year and has employed my services for re-branding and content organization / management for their website.  I’ve also been charged to take photos of the kids and curate an extensive gallery of such images.

What’s new?  The latest project is one of personal importance, developing a divination deck (that you might use like a Tarot deck).  The project’s working title is autumnthing’s oracle arcana.  I started this project over a year ago, and it recently seized me by the collar and pinned me to the drawing board for several hours on end.  I hope to update here as new things surface.

I’m still subcontracting for Mi Ae of What Now Design, delving into some gnarly web design.  Fay continues to enjoy my assistance with gardening, organizing, and interior re-design.  In fact, I just repainted her bathroom.  Hmm… it would be nice to put up some pictures of that; stay tuned!

Life has shadowed meteorological events, and a new crop of projects are in the works.  I continue to work with Mi Ae of What Now Design, doing relief graphic design work and learning a bunch in the process.  Likewise, I keep on truckin’ as organizer and personal assistant to my client Fay in Redmond.

A good friend of mine recently approached me to do costumes for a dance piece he is choreographing.  This is an entirely new direction for me to pursue, and I am as fantastically excited as I am terrified.  The performances will be at the new Velocity Dance Center location some time in late May.

Colleague and local celebrity Charlotte Thistle has commissioned me to fabricate and paint some props for her one-woman child-focused musical about Joan of Arc.

I’ve also started to write and post poetry in my blog.  Please take a look!

In recent news, I just got the redesign of IsGood Woodworks up and running today.  It’s a pretty gnarly website, in terms of the source code, and this stage is chiefly to improve the appearance; for now it’s a success!  Next, I might be working on revamping the site altogether.

I took the entrance exam, got a perfect score, and will potentially be working for the 2010 US Census in March.  I’ve also recently teamed up with Mi Ae of What Now Design, to assist on and shadow various design and publishing projects.  I’m pretty stoked about this
