I have witnessed a weird change in my thought process in last few weeks. It has been weird because it is forcing me to reconsider my passion for blogging. I know. I started blogging 5 years back and I have improved with every passing day. The progress has been slow. But it has always been positive.

I didn’t pay much attention to this blog due to my freelance writing gigs. The money is good. Really. I am writing for the likes of 1stWebDesigner, OneXtraPixel and Developer Drive. But, I feel like I am not doing my best. I can do a lot more. I know the readers of this article will be in single digits but sometimes you just feel like writing what is there inside you. I have given up on almost everything social in my life in order to earn money and improve my writing skills which is still far from being called “good.”

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t feel like giving up writing. It is just that I want to take the next step. Write for a newspaper, maybe. With my online writing gigs I am able to touch a section of this planet. The rest, who do not use Internet, are still not aware of my existence. I agree that my existence isn’t of any importance to many but at least I love myself. I understand things that I know will be of importance to others. I know I can write and reach that larger audience. I know I will. Someday.

As of now, I will try to approach few newspapers/magazines. The process is going to be very long. Very tiring because I am not looking for a full time gigs. This will be just the part time thing for me so as to test those waters. I really don’t know if I will be able to swim in the real world media. The virtual world is so lot different. And, I have enough experience here.

I really don’t know why I wrote this article. I mean, its of no use to my readers. But, its a change in me that I wasn’t expecting. I was assuming my sole target was being a famous blogger. It has now changed to being a writer. A writer who can jot down riveting lines. At least the core stays the same. I still want to write.

Okay!, I am frustrated. Angry. Fed-up! My laptop’s motherboard crashed some 10 days back and the support guys told me that it will take 15 days before they arrange for a new motherboard. Luckily, I was covered under warranty otherwise I might have been “forced” to shell out over $500. Anyways, every incident teaches you something and so did the nuked motherboard did. I guess the Internet addicts out there will agree with me.

What did I learn?

I wasn’t using my laptop to the best of my capability when it was working. Since last 10 days I have been using my friend’s laptop (which I get for an hour or so) and in last 10 days I have earned more from my freelance writing when compared to other days. It is pretty simple. I don’t kill my time online. I read and I write. It surely has made me a lot more productive and I am going to implement this when I get my laptop back. Concentrate my energy at one bloody point!

Another important lesson was that you must have alternatives ready if you are an online freelancer. A spare laptop (which will cost me around $500) or even an iPad might have done wonders for me in these 10 days. Hard luck I guess but I will be working on this thought in days to come.

I agree that the elevation in standards of broadband services have helped us better utilize our time but they surely have forced us to be dependent on them. Still, loving this phase of my life.

P.S. This post was written from my friends laptop and lately I have been comparing some national and international broadband services like Airtel and O2 respectively. It is one business where you really can earn lot of profits man!

Just a thought …

You might never read this write-up just like some of your articles for the future PM (who is being portrayed as eligible to be one because he has Gandhi in his name) aren’t read by him. I want to write this because I love to!

Look, I have no intentions to talk negative about you. I started reading Revolution 2020 at 9:30 PM (on its launch day itself) and finished it at 5:15 AM. I wouldn’t have stayed up all night if I wasn’t your fan. Moreover, I did this because you write well – you really do! Also, I have no intentions whatsoever to talk negative about Shahrukh Khan. Ask my friends about my blind madness for SRK. I can’t help it right now. Chetan, you are repeating!

This was your 5th. You are supposed to elevate your standards. People expect more than just another kid going after a girl and becoming a hero thing from a man who composed Five Point Someone. I mean, except that odd section of your climax (which was quiet interestingly thought) I was able to guess everything. I knew all the way where the story was heading.

I have read every novel of yours in one go, on its first night of launch. You are a writer who inspires the average India Joe to think big. You are living the freelancer’s dream and we love you for that. You are the Shahrukh Khan of your industry. I am not comparing. It is just a scale that I am using. You have the charm that touches the Indian youth. You connect to them. But, don’t you think that the thinking levels of Indian youth is touching horizons? Don’t you think it is time to write stuff that is more complex? A story that will not look like another about-to-be-made Bollywood mess up?

You had your DDLJ (Five Point Someone). Then the not-so-happening Pardes (One Night @ the Call Center) of your life happened. We saw the K2H2 (The 3 Mistakes of My Life) that went good. Then came the Chak De India (2 States) of your career. Revolution 2020 was probably the K3G that will be loved by all because they love you. Isn’t it time to launch the likes of Taare Zameen Par, Dhobi Ghat or something as huge as Lagaan? Even SRK did his Swades which is one his few movies where his performance was above excellent. When are you taking that risk? When are you joining that list of thought provoking writers? Your fans are growing up but you seem to be stuck there only?

I love your articles on TOI. They are brilliant. I have been reading them since ever! I was expecting a book of those standards but Revolution 2020 was a #repeat that I read just to follow my tradition.

I don’t doubt your wittiness. I love the way you explain a confused girls mind. I love the way you portray the teenagers of today. The humour is at times brilliant. There were moments when I was laughing out loud and my roomies came running because it was 3 AM. It was amazing. But, I have a Pyaar Ka Punchnama for that buddy!

Your 6th book, whenever it is launched, will be bought on the launch day itself. It will be read on its first night itself. And, if you don’t come with a nuclear bomb then I promise – I won’t follow the tradition for your 7th.

P.S. The way you used body shop in your tweet was amazing. I loved it! I would have told you this in Inorbit but I dropped my plans of being part of attending the launch because you were bringing in Sonam Kapoor. Again, I got nothing against Sonam but why would Chetan Bhagat want the “lovely” Sonam ( or Vidya Balan) to launch his books? Isn’t Chetan Bhagat the self-made youth icon whose words can cause a stir of its own kind?Am I expecting too much from you?The Bhagat we see in news papers and TV interviews is the real you? Right?

He made us lick the iPhone! He sold a $100 product like it was the most important part of our lives. During the initial years none of these products were of “this” importance to us but he made sure that they became the integral part of our lives. It was about the ultimate passion to rule the world. I slept at 4 AM IST and I would never have imagined that I will wake up to read this news early morning. I might be nothing and my words won’t count but the world is talking. All of them! I have to collect everything at one place as with time everything will diminish but I will have this page to tell me what the world said about the world’s best sales man.

Apple

Apple.com has a photograph of Steve on their home page and few lines for him inside.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

Apple’s Board of Directors passed the below statement:

“We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”

Steve’s family released the below statement:

“Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.

In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve’s illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.

We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.”

Tim Cook, who took over as CEO of Apple, released the below statement:

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

Google

To start with, Google.com links to Apple.com – Brilliant!

Larry Page, the CEO of Google, updates his Google+ profile with below statement:

I am very, very sad to hear the news about Steve. He was a great man with incredible achievements and amazing brilliance. He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what you actually should have been thinking before you thought it. His focus on the user experience above all else has always been an inspiration to me. He was very kind to reach out to me as I became CEO of Google and spend time offering his advice and knowledge even though he was not at all well. My thoughts and Google’s are with his family and the whole Apple family.

Sergey Bin, co-founder of Google, updated his Google+ Profile with below statement:

From the earliest days of Google, whenever Larry and I sought inspiration for vision and leadership, we needed to look no farther than Cupertino. Steve, your passion for excellence is felt by anyone who has ever touched an Apple product (including the macbook I am writing this on right now). And I have witnessed it in person the few times we have met.

On behalf of all of us at Google and more broadly in technology, you will be missed very much. My condolences to family, friends, and colleagues at Apple.

Eric Schimdt, the CEO of Google and former Board member at Apple, left the below statement:

Today is very sad for all of us. Steve defined a generation of style and technology that’s unlikely to be matched again. Steve was so charismatically brilliant that he inspired people to do the impossible, and he will be remembered as the greatest computer innovator in history

From History - Larry & Sergey wanted to hire Steve as Google’s CEO during the early years of Google once they met him back then. They eventually hired Eric Schmidt as the CEO of Google.

Facebook

“Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you.” ~ Mark Zuckerberg on his Facebook profile.

Disney

The president and CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, released the below statement:

Steve Jobs was a great friend as well as a trusted advisor. His legacy will extend far beyond the products he created or the businesses he built. It will be the millions of people he inspired, the lives he changed, and the culture he defined. Steve was such an “original,” with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started. With his passing the world has lost a rare original, Disney has lost a member of our family, and I have lost a great friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Laurene and his children during this difficult time.

John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney released the below statement:

Steve Jobs was an extraordinary visionary, our very dear friend and the guiding light of the Pixar family. He saw the potential of what Pixar could be before the rest of us, and beyond what anyone ever imagined. Steve took a chance on us and believed in our crazy dream of making computer animated films; the one thing he always said was to simply ‘make it great.’ He is why Pixar turned out the way we did and his strength, integrity and love of life has made us all better people. He will forever be a part of Pixar’s DNA. Our hearts go out to his wife Laurene and their children during this incredibly difficult time

Wired

The very famous magazine – Wired – have a image of Steve on their all-black homepage with statement from some of the best known celebrities from the tech world once you scroll down.

Barack Obama

Barack Obama and his family released a statement on White House Blog:

Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun. And by turning his talents to storytelling, he has brought joy to millions of children and grownups alike. Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last. Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve’s wife Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him.

Microsoft

Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, for whom Apple has always been a nightmare released the below statement:

The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.

Steve Barmer, CEO of Microsoft, released the below statement:

Okay. This is it! After all the hoopla it is Apple iPhone 4S which has come to the surface and not the iPhone 5 as we had been guessing all the time. Lets go through some of the new updates in iPhone 4S (which looks as is when compared to its older buddy from the outside):

Dual Core Processor

Up to 2X faster CPU

14.4 Mbps download speed as compared to 7.7 of iPhone 4

Intelligently switches between two antennas to transmit and receive.

Better Call Quality

Increased talk time hours (upto 12 hours!)

Upto 7X faster graphics. They just used Blade to prove it!

Both GSM and CDMA. Interesting!

8 MP sensor for the new camera in iPhone 4S

CMOS backside illuminated sensor — gets 73% more light than the iPhone 4 sensor, and 1/3rd faster.

Amazing lens. Wide f2.4! Whoa!!!

Backside illumination

73% more light

60% more pixels when compared to iPhone 4

26% better Auto White Balance

A mere 1.1 seconds for the first picture, and a half-second for the second. That is kick-ass camera. Bionic takes 3.7 seconds for the first picture, 2 for the Galaxy S II, Sensation 2.1

1080p video. WOW!

real-time video image stabilization (yes!), real-time temporal noise reduction.

You can also take macro photos.

AirPlay Mirroring is now happening, meaning you can get your gaming on the big(ger) screen.

Voice Assistant!

Engadget is LIVE BLOGGING the event and seems to be giving out the best possible updates. Go, follow Engadget to get the best out of Apple’s let’s-talk-iPhone event.

GDGT seems to be close second in terms of LIVE BLOGGING. They have nice touch of humor and enough traffic to melt their servers, already! Follow them for fun!

Mashable is way below gdgt or Engadget! Get real guys!

TechCrunch, unfortunately, is the slowest!

I am not sure if this is fake or not but we really don’t have time to analyze this. All that we can do is build the hype and be part of this fun movement behind Apple’s lets-talk-iPhone thingy!

Right after the maintenance mode of App Store we heard about the speculations that this could well be the iPhone 4S launch and the images below might just be proving the same.

I am not sure how 9to5mac was able to pull up these images when other’s failed to but this might just be true.

Some reasons why this could be an iPhone 4S launch and not an iPhone 5 launch:

The images we pushed above is one reason for starters.

Apple’s Japanese website seems to have something related to iPhone 4S launch on 16th October which is like…on our heads!

The theater for the press event has capacity of less than 100 which I am assuming is very small for iPhone 5 launch.

Closing in guys …

The launch of iPhone 5 is on our heads and Live Blogs from around the Internet have started to push in cheeky information. Here is a quick note of what is happening inside Apple premises just ahead of the much-awaited new iPhone launch.

Guys at Engadget were permitted to take their Android handsets inside the premises which could be weird for some but is smart as far as I think. Apple is pretty much open for marketing via any platforms!

While checking in Apple seems to be using an “App” which checks in the media persons!

And here is the dull news!

It might not be the iPhone 5 that we are looking at. If this link is to be trusted then we are looking at the launch of iPhone 4S. Huh! What an hype for nothing!

As is usually the case, Apple’s App Store goes down just ahead of any new iPhone announcement so as to push in all the new stuff. The Internet has been abuzz with updates of Apple coming up with a new iPhone which could be the next generation iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S which is an upgrade of iPhone 4.

We are not sure what exactly the lets-talk-iPhone meeting from Apple has in store for us but we are sure that things have started to roll out and changes are being pushed in quick.

Stay tuned as we will continue to push out new updates related to iPhone 5 (or whatever) here on CompuWorld.
