Domain Registries keep updating the domain prices frequently based on market forces. Recently also they have sharply increased domain prices of gTLD domains (.com, .net, .org, .info, biz, etc.). On 14th, ICANN (the organization that manages the domain industry) had announced price increase by $ 0.5 USD. In past whenever Domain registries increased price of the domain, we took a hit and did not change the domain price for you. But this time, a sharp increase in domain price has forced us to change the domain price for new domain purchase as well as for domain renewals.
Please note we are updating the prices of the domains as follows and will effect from 20th January 2012

Domain extension

We look forward to your continued support.

At Webtions we are working hard to finish our website and set-up processes to offer simple web solutions. This month we have launched a new hosting package offering unlimited bandwidth & email accounts and we have also upgraded our backup infrastructure.

Due to client demands we have recently launched a new hosting package nicknamed “Professional Web Hosting Package” for those of who need more space and unlimited bandwidth for just Rs. 1,500/year.

Most companies in India do not have a backup policy. This is known only if the server crashes and clients lose their dynamic content such as database. Backups stored on same server whether on a partition or different drives is not useful when there is a total server crash. To offer our customers more peace of mind, we have set-up a new backup server with 2 times more capacity than our regular servers combined. This new server will ensure we have daily backup copies of your website stored on a totally different machine at the end of each day.

For next few weeks, we would only store 7 days of data. The data would be restored for all active customers on a on-demand basis for free.

We will continue to offer more value added services to our regular hosting platform without increasing our cost.

So, you’re planning a Website? You’ve been wading through the advertisements to find a company that will host your site on the ‘Net. As you’ve noticed, there are more than a few companies out there. The most visible difference between all of them is probably their monthly fee. Although cost is an important factor to consider, another question that must be asked is: Which control panels does the company offer?

There are many cheap web hosting companies that look like they provide a good deal. But, unless they offer a powerful control panel, they can be difficult to work with. A web hosting company has to do more than just provide you with a computer connected to the Internet. As an aspiring webmaster you will also need a control panel to manage and perform administrative functions on your site.

The cPanel control panel provides those management tools. You get a powerful file manager that allows you to move, copy, rename, and edit the files that make up your site. You can monitor the error logs and provide pages to be displayed when errors occur. You can create SQL databases with ease and perform administrative functions on those databases with other powerful software tools. You can even manipulate your domain names.

Add to that the ability to read your email from anywhere using industry-standard webmail programs; the ability to create blogs, discussion forums, and e-commerce shopping carts using the Fantastico suite of applications; the ability to track visitors to your site in several different ways; and, much more.

Putting up a website involves more than finding a cheap web hosting service. It is important to find a company that also provides a powerful control panel like cPanel.

Before a company or individual can launch a website, the site needs a home where the files can be stored. This home is called the website’s host. There are many hosting solutions available for the widely varying needs of the user, from an individual to a large retailer. The best choice for hosting depends on the type of site required and the intended use.

When a user signs up with an Internet Service Provider, or ISP, the ISP usually offers a small amount of space for the user to receive email and set up a personal web page. These personal sites might contain a person’s resume, photos, videos, writings, artwork, or anything else the user cares to share with the world. In most cases, these personal sites are free or inexpensive due to advertisements along the sides of the page.

Free personal sites are user-friendly. They’re easily designed with a template provided by the ISP. The files are stored and managed on the ISP’s server. There might be a limit on how much material may be downloaded per month. Additional bandwidth can be purchased if necessary.

Self-employed individuals might require more than a free personal site. For those requiring greater storage, more control over the design, and the ability to add a blog or forum, a shared web hosting service might be a good solution. Typically, several small companies share the server’s storage and resources, such as the RAM and CPU speed. A complex site requires database support and application development platforms like Java, PHP, ColdFusion, Ruby on Rails, and ASP.NET.

Some companies rent servers so they can resell the space to others who need small sites. Resellers normally offer the same features for their single or personal sites that the original hosting firm offers. The reseller also provides technical support to their end users.

A Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) or Virtual Personal Server (VPS) is split into smaller virtual servers, preventing access to the core hardware by the end user. These virtual servers are portable and can be moved from one server to another easily. Clients manage their virtual server themselves via FTP. This solution works well for small to mid-sized companies.

With Virtual Private Server hosting, the user rents an entire server at a remote location. The server may be managed or unmanaged. If it is managed, the user does not have full control over it. This prevents possible conflicts in configuration and assures that the server remains online. An unmanaged server is totally maintained by the user. With most dedicated hosting solutions, the user does not own the server.

If the user owns a server, collocation is another option. The server is kept at a hosting company who provides maintenance and an Internet connection. The hosting company is responsible for keeping the server online. Any upgrades to the server would be performed by the user’s engineers. A large corporation would likely use collocation, unless they have their own Information Technology department. In that case, they’d probably keep the server in-house.

Cloud hosting is a new solution offering reliability, scalability, and power. The user is charged only for the services provided by the host. The fee for cloud hosting changes each month, depending on the amount of traffic.

Clustered hosting uses numerous servers with the same content for high-demand traffic. The clusters keep the company’s infrastructure separate from its online presence. A news agency or high-traffic multi-media site would use clustered hosting for maximum speed and availability.

Individuals can set up a home server with an old PC and a broadband connection. Although most ISPs don’t approve of the extra traffic, a home server is a cheap way to host a few personal or small business sites. The user can easily maintain their home server with Windows or Linux.

A business that specializes in photos or videos may use a remote host to store files. That way, there’s no need to continually upgrade the company’s server for more storage. Files can be stored in sub-directories for easier access.

WordPress and Blogger are two sites dedicated to blogs. These sites are template-designed and ad-driven, so they’re free, except for the advanced features. It’s easier to host a blog on these sites than on the client server because they’re dedicated to that purpose and immediately connect the blog to the blogosphere. That way, the blog can be tagged, searched, and found.

There’s a solution to any web hosting need, from the personal to the profitable. Larger companies usually prefer to assume the responsibility of maintaining their own servers, but end users will find that they have numerous options for their website hosting needs. After analyzing the choices, the best option is usually obvious.
