Google Street view launched in Sri Lanka

Global technology leader Google Inc. yesterday said it would begin imaging Sri Lanka for its ‘Street View’ service to create new views of the country to share with the world.

“Our attractions should go to digital media. This will allow more people to discover Sri Lanka and at the same time, allow people in Sri Lanka to explore new parts of their country online,” Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Director General D.S. Jayaweera said.

The service provides 360 degree views and navigation of streets as if the viewer was walking down the road and can be accessed on Google Maps by using the ‘pegman’ icon.

Google Asia Pacific Director of Public Policy Ann Lavin, who had flown down to Colombo, expressed that the benefits of Street View to a destination couldn’t be overstated.

“After we introduced Street View, the Mayor of Pompeii said that there was a 25 percent tourism growth year-on-year,” she said.

If you experiencing a problem of not showing of Sinhala Fonts event you have installed Sinhala Tamil language pack in chrome browser, It is a result of a change of settings of chrome browser.

You can fix the sinhala fon problem simply taking these steps.

It's Now Or Never Janaka: Janaka to bring Elvis back to life..

Elvis Presley captivated the audience during his time with his music and his performance on stage but despite his death, his music still lives on thanks to people like Janaka.

Known as Sri Lanka’s Elvis Presley and admired by some of the greats in Sri Lanka’s music industry, Janaka will be making a comeback to the local music scene by performing at what is billed to be the show of all shows.

Come November 9, the Galadari hotel will be the focus of all attention as ‘It’s Nov or Never’ will see Janaka pay tribute to the King as he sings and performs some of Elvis’s greatest hits, and more.

Janaka will be backed by a 31 piece pop orchestra led by one of the great musicians Sri Lanka has ever produced, Kalsuri Harsha Makalande.

Having performed in several countries in his prime, Janaka took a break from music as he focused on his full-time career as a professional stockbroker.

After being employed in Dubai for some time, Janaka came back to Sri Lanka and was recently persuaded by his friends to return to the stage.

This then led to the idea of the concert “It’s Now or Never” during which Janaka will not just sing songs made by popular by Elvis Presley but will also sing some of the best hits by Jim Reeves, Daniel O’Donnell, Engelbert Humperdinck and Tom Jones.

Harsha Makalande says the concert will see, for the first time, an individual artiste being backed by a pop orchestra.

Makalande said he feels Janaka has immense talent and can even be Sri Lanka’s version of Luciano Pavarotti one day.

He also noted that it is important that local talent is promoted in Sri Lanka and given the opportunity to shine on stage.

Those words were echoed by Dr. Vijeya Corea, the compere of the concert, who is credited with assisting many local artistes to come to the forefront.

Janaka learned his music from Sri Lanka’s best music teachers, Mary Anne David. To put it in the words of Janaka, she is the “A,B,C and X,Y,Z” of his music.

Mary Anne David says Janaka is the total package as he does not just have the voice but the image as well to be a great performer.

The Lion’s Club of Jawatte Summit is also involved with the concert as the proceeds from the show will be used to raise awareness about, and assist Thalassemia patients.

Microsoft has unveiled Windows 10, the latest version of its flagship operating system, which brings back the popular Start Menu.

USA software giant MICROSOFT has decided not to release a Windows 9, jumping straight from the much-criticized Windows 8 to Windows 10.

Microsoft current CEO Satya Nadella, chose to skip a version of its ubiquitous operating system to highlight a leap towards a new platform aimed squarely at unifying desktop PCs and mobile devices. Terry Myerson, executive vice-president of operating systems, said the company was now operating in a "mobile-first, cloud-first world", and had to adapt to that.

An early version of the software, demonstrated at an event in San Francisco, showed two modes, one optimized for touch-controlled tablets, and one for PCs with mice and keyboard.

In order to make Windows 10 work smoothly across platforms, Microsoft has introduced a new feature called Continuum. This means the Windows 10 interface will change depending on what device you're using. For example, if you're working with a laptop-tablet hybrid like the Surface, you'll be met with the standard desktop while using the tablet with its keyboard. Once you unplug the keyboard, however, you'll switch over to tablet mode.
