Tweak Me! 1.2.0.5 is finally released! Thank you all for your suggestions and feature-requests. Version 1.2.0.5 comes with some new tweaks that you have probably not seen (working) before.
This time the changes focus on Internet Explorer tweaks.
Certificate verification, Suggested Sites, Geolocation, those are features everyone should care about - especially when it comes to the privacy risks.
Suggested Sites is probably Internet Explorer's most controversial feature.
I know that many people have difficulties disabling this feature because the checkbox in Internet Explorer's advanced internet settings does not work properly - Suggested Sites are still shown if the box is unchecked.
I was, however, able to figure out what Microsoft implemented falsely, Tweak Me! is able to properly disable Suggested Sites.
All the other Windows optimization tools I have taken a look at, have non-working implementations of this tweak.

[Review] Amazon Kindle 4

I just received my Amazon Kindle (4th generation). I love both reading books and technology so I tried to combine these two aspects.
Having read much about ebook readers, I decided to buy one with E Ink instead of a normal LCD display for improved readability. E Ink is a quite new technology which is often refered to as "digital paper" - it is a screen containing ink which is rearranged by electrical commands.

Advantages of Kindle's E Ink display

non-reflecting (non glare) display
great contrasts
high readability (resolution: 600px * 800px, 167 dpi)
extremely low power consumption (runtime up to 1 month)

Disadvantages of Kindle's E Ink display

short delay in turning pages
no multi-media capabilities (videos, color, etc.)
grey scale only

Usage
The Kindle is extremely easy to use. Once the battery is charged, you can read the manual and get started. There are no complex settings to worry about.

Software Updates
However, I would recommend you to install the latest update (4.0.1) which allows you to make the Kindle invert the display on every page turn to avoid ghosting and pixelation.

Store your ebooks
You can easily buy ebooks from Amazon and receive them via WLAN. Furthermore you can use the Kindle as a mass storage device and directly add ebooks to your Kindle via USB.

Convert EPUB files to MOBI
If you want to use ebooks from other sources, the most commonly used file format is EPUB which is unfortunately not supported by Kindle.
You can, however, convert those EPUB files to MOBI (which is also a common ebook format) using a free software called "Calibre" (website).

Conclusion

The new E Ink technology is very fascinating. I have already gotten used to my Kindle within the last days. It is really comfortable to use and to carry around - even sunlight does not stop you from reading.
I can only recommend taking a look at Amazon's Kindle which is definitely a great product and a special Christmas present.

I just set up a new Windows 7 SP1 installation on my system - running on an OCZ Vertex II Ex SSD (Amazon Germany).
I used Tweak Me! to check if Windows properly disables non-SSD-friendly settings by default the way it should.
Unfortunately, as you can see, it disables neither the Defragmentation service, nor does it disable the Prefetch service.

I am currently working on Alternative Flash Player Auto-Updater for Flash Player 11. As you have probably realized, Flash Player 11 went final and my application stopped working at the same time.
Unfortunately users receive error messages.
Adobe has changed some things which make it impossible for the application to work with Flash Player 11 without an update.

I am working on an update, an internal version has already been sent to several people for testing.

[Project Closed] Protect Me!

Protect Me! has become more popular with the last major updates. Not only has it attracted multiple endusers but also some companies.
I was contacted by several companies and Steganos was the one I decided to sell the application to. It was not sold as-is, there were several customizations to be done. Code optimization, adaption of a custom skin for a new GUI and several feature implementations have been done by me.

Now that the application is sold, I cannot publish it on my website anymore, nor can I continue to support it.
I cannot tell you a date but it will soon be available as "Steganos Crypt & Go 2012" for free.
