The roaring twenties in all their glory relived at the Teahouse Restaurant in Vancouver where vintage glam meets modern bridal style in an early springtime debut. The lavish creations of Jenny Packham bridal and Monique Lhullier and Lazaro bridesmaids add a perfect combination of luxury and glamour, qualities that are synonymous with the abundance and affluence of the 1920's.

We invited Kailey Michelle Events, Bisou Bridal to join us in paying homage to "Gatsby" week by combining 2013 style with all the extravagance and splendour of this incredible bygone era. The results were stunning ~ and vividly documented by award winning photographer Matt Kennedy.

We get asked a lot by our clients “What should we wear for our engagement/couples session?”. It’s a good question. The point of this post however is not to go over what should and shouldn’t be worn by couples. It is rather, a look at how you can pick outfits, based on colour, that complement each other and add an extra level of professionalism to your final photos. There’s just something about a couple in complementary clothing that adds a real ‘wow factor’ to the final images from their engagement or couples session.

Nothing says fresh and new quite like the colour green! Green comes in a wide array of shades, ranging from a yellowish, pea-like hue all the way to turquoise! Green looks beautiful combined with earth tones, and therefore makes a wonderful choice for outdoor shoots and backdrops of wood and stone. Even small accents of green such as jewelry, scarves, or shoes, look wonderful with whites and tans.

Indigo – or deep blue – is a rich, exceedingly popular colour which looks beautiful in almost any setting. Outfits with blue elements create a sense of calm and quiet - perfect for a more introverted couple or natural backdrops.

Tip

Blue can be dressed up or down to fit your tastes, and can be used either as a main colour or for accenting in your outfits.

Orange is a tangy, optimistic colour that demands attention! Strong, joyful, and happy, adding orange to your engagement session is always a hit on camera. Couples with a more extroverted nature might enjoy orange-themed outfits. Orange also looks wonderful in urban settings, such as against concrete, brick, and stone.

Alas, it was not mint to be! (lol) Pantone, the design world's authority on colour, has chosen its colour of the year from its 2013 spring colour palette collection and emerald green is the ONE!

Well, we were very close, predicting a "green" tone would be crowned 2013's wedding colour of the year but in the end, the vibrant, energetic and expressive emerald green beat its soft, elegant, and ethereal counterpart, mint.

How to use Emerald in your wedding theme?

Punch up brilliant white, elegant ivory or stylish grey with this super hot hue as an accent, or..

To make it super-current, pick between yellow or coral accents to a dominant emerald theme and create an extra chic 2013 combination!

Winter Wedding Colour Trends 2013

Orange, green, blue, lime... getting married this winter of 2012/2013 offers many colour options for your wedding but what is the hot colour of the season?
Each and every year, Pantone (the design world's colour authority), issues its list for the year's top 10 colours. From that list, one usually is hailed the top overall colour of the year. For example, in 2012, tangerine orange was the hallmark colour that many a wedding theme was based on.

So.. what can we expect for 2013 weddings?

"A contrast between muted tones and bright, bold injections of colour" is the hottest trend for weddings in 2013. (how appropriately vague!). Shades of green, blue, red and yellow have made the Pantone list this year and we are predicting either a shade of blue or green will be the year's hallmark colour. Our feeling is that mint green will be the overall style maker of 2013.

But, if you are planning a winter wedding, you are in between the 2012 and 2013 wedding season. So, how do you choose which year's colours to use in your winter wedding planning?

Well, both bright colours like yellow and muted tones like lavender are on the list of top colour trends in 2013. Colours like orange, pewter and lilac were hot for 2012. So, to be on the cutting edge of what's fashionable this winter, try combining different colours to see which combination would create a great look for your wedding décor. Work within the palette of popular colours for both years and experiment with different options till you get it just right.

Tip

When in doubt, just go with your favourite wedding colour and punch it up with a contrasting accent colour to keep your look in pace with what's in style in the 2012-2013 wedding season.

Mint Green, the Wedding Colour of 2013?

When Pantone, the design world's authority on colour, released its 2013 spring fashion colour report, we all waited with anxious anticipation to see what would dethrone 2012's tangerine orange as the wedding colour of the year.

For 2013, the list of 10 favourites includes bright red and yellow plus bold and muted tones of blue and green. But, the 2013 colour of the year still remains to be officially announced.

Our Prediction!

Many believe either a shade of green or blue will be the winner but word on the street seems to be calling for mint, a soft, elegant, and ethereal shade of green. Although we won't know for sure until December, we're placing our bets on mint as the 2013 wedding colour of the year.

Why?

Mint's got it going on... we love it for its class, sophistication and youthful appeal.

Tip

Mix it with an edgy pewter or slate and your look goes from soft and subtle to modern and sexy!

NY Bridal Week: Day #4

Our Blush Bridal fashionistas continued their relentless tour of NYC Bridal Market yesterday with a trip to meet with Amsale Aberra - creative director for the Amsale, Christos and Kenneth Pool collections! Here is their combined report for all three collections.

First up was Amsale! Renowned for its modern sensibility, the Fall 2013 collection was a sophisticated ode to the "sleek style of New York City." Gowns featured innovative twists on traditional bridal design with a host of chic necklines and unique plays on volume- including an exaggerated tulip skirt, several detached trains, and softly draped peplums. Our two favorite looks effortlessly combined classic and contemporary details. A romantic ball gown got a modern update with a scoop-neck bodice that created lent a casual air to an otherwise formal look; while a structured column gown with a modest bateau neckline, surprised us with a detached train and embroidered sheer back. Whether living in New York or not, fashionable and sophisticated brides everywhere will love these timeless looks!
