Whether you are a bride-to-be, a perennial bridesmaid, or an avid fan of all things l’amour, there are some dos and don’ts that can ensure the happy day will be one to remember.
This is definitely must see tv! especially for those who are planning for their BIG day. Set your TIVOS as it will air again on Fri., Aug. 03, 2007 at 5:00PM (EST) on the E! network
Would love to hear your thoughts on the show as well as find those wedding DON’T photos - I know you have one!

What’s your music style? Believe it or not but your wedding playlist can make or break your wedding reception.

To get you started on the order of music you must begin with the basic ceremony, this involves three types of songs: preludes (aka “light music” for when the guests are being seated), processionals (aka “romantic music” for wedding party entrance), and recessionals (aka “upbeat and joyous music” this is for after the big kiss and exit from your ceremony). Just to throw some ideas out there you can hire a musical quartet or trio (as I had) from your local DJ or to cut cost you can even ask your local high school musical students to volunteer for this event. If that is too much to ask you can create a playlist to your IPOD and have your venue connect it to speakers.

Time to Paaarrttaa!! after the picture taken and the pleasantries, you are ready to boggie…whenever different age groups come together to celebrate, you’ve got to make tough decisions. With wedding reception music, you may have to keep your most heavy rhythms and Tupac in check. But that doesn’t mean your bash has to be BORING. All you need to do is mix it up! Turn out songs that will have everyone gyrating, electric-sliding, jumping it up and salsa-ing. Work with your band or DJ to include some crowd-pleasing choice.
To share some ideas, here’s my wedding playlist:

First Dance: “Back at One” by Brian McKnight

Wedding Intro Song: “Crazy in Love” by Jay Z & Beyonce

Cake Cutting Song: Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard

Mom/Daughter Song: “Song for Mama” by Boyz II Men

Son/Mother Song: ”You Raised Me Up” by Josh Groban

Last Dance: ”Now that We’ve Found Love” by Heavy D and The Boyz

Participation Dance: “Cha-Cha Slide” by Mr. C

Looking for a special new scent for your wedding day? You might want to choose something that reflects your personality. Try not to wear a scent that is overpowering or too strong for your man’s noise. When you man gets close to you, you want to hear “wow you smell sooo sexy!” not “wow are you trying to mate with skunks?!”

Need suggestions? My personal signature scents are Thierry Mugler’s Angel perfume, Viktor & Rolf’s FlowerBomb and Prada perfume. You might want to check out Sephora, they have a great selection of fragrances and they are really cool with you trying on scents in hopes that you find your signature scent. Bring your mom or a friend to come with you and follow your nose to pick up a fragrance you like. Remember that this is suppose to be fun, so don’t fret if you haven’t found that scent during your first visit.

NOTE: Apply fragrance beforeyou get dressed to avoid staining your gown.

Ladies, after the I do’s I could not wait to change my name - legally! I felt like I was waiting forever, but our marriage license finally arrived a month later. I could not wait to tell the world and too finally see my new name in print.

Besides monogramming your towels you should also inform certain agencies…but who should be first? Good ones to start with are the DMV and the Social Security Administration, because once your new driver’s license and social security card are in hand, changing the rest of your records will be easy. Then move on to:

Credit Card Agenices

IRS

Utility companies

Your employer

The post office

Bank(s)

stocks/bonds/mutual funds

retirement plans

real estate

professional associations

The Registrar of Voters

car registration

house, car and life insurance

your will

other people’s wills

Your Doctor(s)

your lawyer

powers of attorney

trusts

contracts

frequent flyer programs

welfare office

veteran’s administration

Passport

and of course everyone you might run into

Also, do not immediately throw away your old identification..not only to reminisce, but it may be necessary to prove who you once were. Some IDs, like your passport, may carry an A.K.A. (”also known as”), so you’re not completely free of your original name.

Deciding on the which venue to have your wedding or wedding reception is the most critical decision you will make. The is where all of you guests will gather to celebrate your day and you are expected to provide them with a good time. The right venue means good food, good drink, enough room for people to sit, and of course a place for dancing.

Some thing to be aware of when you go o visit the halls. Most halls will intimidate you into booking a date and signing a contract on the spot by putting the fear of losing the date in your head. If you are flexible with your date this process becomes a lot easier and give you a bit more power. The day of the week will determine your price since Saturday is by far the most expensive, Friday is a close second, and Thursday is now the new Friday. Don’t be afraid to ask every question that pops into your mind and if they give you an answer you want make sure it goes into the contract. You would be amazed at how many empty promises are made by salesman trying to close a deal.

There are certain items you should focus on when taking your tours. Cocktail hour seating is often overlooked and is most noticed by your guests. Trying to eat food and hold a drink while standing up in fancy clothes isn’t easy. A hall that offers a separate cocktail hour floor or section is always a plus. The bar that will be open during your cocktail hour is what you guests will really come to love. Ask how many bartenders will be working, can you have a couple of tray passed signature drinks, and make them aware of any special drink preferences.

When reviewing the main room layout checkout the dance floor, the lighting, the carpet, and the sample table layout they have setup. This will depend on the size of your wedding, but try to find a location that allows you to be in the center of the room in front of the dance floor. This will allow you to have half your guests on each side and all of the action takes place directly in front of you. Bar location can also dictate the flow of your party since most people will end up there at some point during the evening. A bar located opposite the dance floor in the back middle of the room will allow a smooth flow for your guests, keep people on the dance floor, and avoid a corner crowd waiting fo $2 beers at your $20,000 reception.

This point is critical for the bride. Take a close look at the Bridal Suite and ask about the Bridal Attendant. This is where you will spend a large portion of your day and you want to be comfortable. The suite should be just as nice as anything else in the hall and if it isn’t it shows a lack of attention to detail from the hall and should be a warning sign. Your entire bridal party and parents will be in the room so make sure it has enough space to hold everyone comfortably with enough seating.

Above all, I cannot stress this enough, do not sign anything until you have all of your questions answered, all your concerns addressed, and everything important in writing. This going to be your biggest expense by far and you have every right to be as anal as you want so go for it and enjoy! I picked the last place I looked at and the only reason we even saw it was because they had a cancellation and called us while we were going to book another location next door. So be patient and you will find the perfect place for your perfect day.

Without fail this will be an area of the wedding where the bride will have more input than the groom. The groom to be will usually have some feedback, but it will usually include the phrases “I guess”, “Looks fine to me”, and the always enjoyable “If that’s what you want it’s fine with me.” Now ladies don’t let this get you upset or thinking he doesn’t care. Most men just don’t see flowers as being as important to the wedding day as you do. To make this process easier and cost effective find centerpieces you feel fit your style, find flowers that are local and in season, and pick a centerpiece that fits your wedding hall.

Your personal style should help you in getting started, but don’t let that lock you into one design. Use your style as a guide to work with and build on. Selecting flowers that have to be imported, colored, or are a tougher color to find can run you hundreds or thousands of dollars. I had picked out a white flower and decided i wanted to go with a red and the price difference was $20 per flower. So you will learn to adjust.

Your wedding hall will play a role in your selection for several reasons. What kind of lighting does your hall have? Do they offer and spotlights on the tables to emphasize your centerpieces. If so this can make a small full centerpiece standout and seem much more impressive. What kind of tableswill you be using? You don’t want the centerpiece to be in the way of people and blocking views. I have attended wedding where people actually removed the centerpiece from the table because the couldn’t see other people at their table. Don’t be afraid to accentuate your flowers with the use of votive candles, pedals, or using unique vases with a nice interior design.

All florists will design a sample piece for you before you actually decide to go forward with your choice. Remember to ask how many free samples they will make for you. Many will only give you one shot before charging you for additional work. Clear this before you sign anything because this will be an argument you will usually lose. Verify that the florist has a relationship with your venue because you don’t want to deal with any confusion the day of your event. The tradition of giving the centerpiece away during the wedding just takes up time and most people find it disrupts the flow of the event. Your guests will take the flowers at the end of the night without you telling them…they will take everything that isn’t bolted down actually!

This software was invaluable when I was planning my wedding. It enabled me to keep my guest list, responses, and to do list in order. On top of that it even made my seating charts a snap - especially when we had to make a bunch of last minute changes. The software comes with a free 30 day trial so it is worth trying out to get your initial planning setup, but if you are serious about staying organized this is a great tool. I would personally push any other wedding software on this site because I didn’t find anything else worth my time. If you do decide to check it out please comment on he site and let us know what you thought. More info is available here or you can download or buy iDo below.
