What do you love the most about summer? Do you even love summer? For me, it's a bit of a love-hate. I hate the heat and would stay indoors with the shades drawn, the AC on full blast all day if I could, but I also am a plant-hoarder, and as any plant-crazy lady (or guy) will tell you, there really is no substitute for bright sunshine. But if you are looking for an easier way to get bright pops of color this summer, Sally Hansen has you covered with the Summer Solstice collection. The nail colors in this summer-themed collection range from bright corals and pinks to softer pastels and golds. I got to try out 3 of these colors - Koi Coral, Golden Glow, and Ocean Daze. Sally Hansen Miracle Gel nail polishes are great for a quick at-home manicure. The formula is easy to apply, goes on streak-free, and most of the colors I have tried are opaque with two coats. The colors from the Summer Solstice collection are perfect for this time of the year – my favorite from the ones I have tried would be Koi Coral. If you are obsessed with pastels, Tiffany blue kind of colors, then Ocean Daze would be the pick for you. Both Koi Coral and Ocean Daze go on smooth and streak-free and need 2 coats to get a more opaque finish. The photos above are without a top coat. Golden Glow is a muted gold shimmery polish that goes on quite sheer at 1 coat, and even with 2 coats as above, it is still a bit on the sheer side. This would work great on it's own, used as an accent color, or even as a top coat over other colors.

I am a DIY, at-home manicure person, and I have had pretty good experiences with the Sally Hansen nail colors so far. They are easy to apply, last about a week on my nails, and are easy to change/refresh with regular nail polish remover (no scary scraping). They are meant to be paired with the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel top coat (step 1 apply color, step 2 apply top coat), and they do look glossier and perform better with it.

Neutral/nude palettes have been around for a while now, and there is a version or two by every brand. Despite that, I am always happy to try out the next new "Nude" palette, especially when it's by a brand that's easy on the pocket like this Magnif'Eyes Nude Edition eyeshadow palette by Rimmel. The Magnif'Eyes eyeshadow palettes are available in 5 color themes - Nude (pictured above), Smoke (as the name suggest, a darker smokier collection), Spice (warm neutrals – I really wanted this but couldn't find it at my local Target), Blush (rose/plum-toned neutrals), and Color (this one has some brighter shades – teal, copper, gold, along with some neutrals and darks). I got to try out the Nude edition (thanks to PR folks), and for my medium-dark skin tone, this works great as a soft-neutral eyeshadow palette. Scroll on for swatches and photos.

Rimmel Magnif'Eyes Nude Edition Eyeshadow Palette

Rimmel Magnif'Eyes eyeshadow palettes feature 12 shades, housed in a sleek palette with a dual-ended sponge-brush applicator included with the palette. I haven't used the applicator (the sponge end at least isn't something I can use more than once), but I do find the space useful for carrying a small brush of my own. The Nude edition palette features a mix of shimmers and mattes with shades ranging from soft creams and browns to darker browns and grays. There is no black in this palette, and the smokey effect in this palette comes from darker browns and grays.

On my medium-dark skin tone, this colors in this palette show up as soft-neutral tones. There are some lovely shimmery copper and browns in here, but the taupes and grays are my favorites. The eyeshadows feel soft and are reasonably pigmented. I do think they perform best over a primer and/or when layered with an eyeliner. The swatches below are on dry skin – no primer, no moisturizer, and I haven't wet the eyeshadows.

Rimmel's Nude edition Magnif'Eyes eyeshadow palette is a great pick if you are looking for easy-to-wear neutrals, eyeshadows that would be great for a daytime, soft smokey eye, and also a great pick if you want an inexpensive neutral eyeshadow palette. Paired with a darker eyeliner, this palette can also be used for darker makeup looks. The eyeshadows do need a primer and show up best when layered, but for the price, I find these pretty awesome. I am a bit biased, though, because these are the sort of colors that I reach for most often. My go-to makeup look would be one or two of these shadows used all over the lid and a darker eyeliner smudged along the lashline, and this palette is perfect for a simple eye makeup look like that.

As is perhaps the case with every other neutral-nude eyeshadow palette out there, I have seen reviews mentioning this as similar to the Urban Decay Naked palette. I don't think this is a close enough dupe, and the eyeshadows in the pricier UD version are more pigmented (in my opinion), but I don't own any of those palettes, and really for the price, the Rimmel palettes are a great substitute :D

Lancome L'Absolu Lacquer - First Date (312)

True to claims, the Lancome L'Absolu Lacquer formula feels light and hydrating. The texture feels thin, and I think they would work wonderfully as lip stains (similar to but less opaque than the YSL Vinyl Cream lip stains). For a more opaque coverage, I would recommend applying in thin layers and building up rather than plopping on a whole lot of gloss. The swatches left a stubborn stain on my hand, so definitely long-lasting. The color range is a mix of darks, neutrals, and some lighter shades, and overall, I think this is a nice pick for anyone who loves lipglosses but wants a little more color payoff.

MAC Plenty of Pout Plumping Lip Collection

The newest from MAC – Plenty of Pout lip collection – is supposed to be a bunch of things, but before I get to that, I have to talk about the promo photo. Umm ... someone somewhere thought having a bee on the lip is a fun image?! I get that they are going for the bee-stung lips concept, but I find the imagery just weird. Anywho, moving on to the Plenty of Pout collection, it includes lipsticks (and a lipgloss) that promise full pouty lips and sheer, creamy color. The lip plumping effect comes not from bees (thankfully) but from ginger root complex that gives a cooling sensation to the lips and moisturizing oils that give a moisturized, smoothened effect. Most of the colors were sold out at my local MAC counter, but I did get some swatches to share here. Scroll on for more.

The lipsticks live up to the smooth and creamy claim and feel quite moisturizing. While not as opaque as some of MAC's regular lipsticks (especially mattes), these do seem quite pigmented. The colors are the kinds that would work on most skin tones, and while this is a very small collection, I think MAC has done a good job with the mix of brights and neutrals. So Swell is a great neutral, but I also like Ample Chic and Crazy Lush. The moisturizing formula makes these colors easy to wear. Overall, I really liked the lipstick colors in this collection – not sure about the ~~bee-stung~~ lip-plumping effect – and the formula feels creamy and moisturizing.

If you are looking for easy-to-wear lipsticks and/or want to try out the bee-stung effect without harming bees 😛, do give these a try!

As someone with oily-combination skin and a long history of fighting acne breakouts (still have the scars to show for that 😭), I have been through a lot of clay-based face masks. In general, they are a great way to tone down the oiliness and give the skin a fresh and tightened feel. Unfortunately though, much like my experience with oil-free moisturizers and acne-fighting face washes, most clay-based face masks leave my skin feeling and looking dry, dull, and parched. I am quite convinced pure clay-based face masks work best on younger skins or as heavy artillery on an occasional pimple. For regular, all-over use, though, they have always seemed too drying for me. And that's why I love the Caudalie Instant Detox face mask.

Caudalie Instant Detox clay-based face mask

Like any good clay-based face mask, the main ingredient in the Caudalie Instant Detox mask is, of course, bentonite (pink clay). Other ingredients in the mask include coffee, papaya enzymes to brighten skin, organic essential oils of lavender and sage which add an antibacterial effect (also gives a soothing herbal smell to the mask), as well as Caudalie's signature ingredient – grape extract. The mask is housed in a travel-friendly, no-mess tube packaging which makes for convenient application. Just squeeze the tube to dispense the required amount of premixed paste-like mask and apply. You can use a brush to apply this, but I use fingers to apply on clean, dry skin. Leave on for 5-10 minutes – that's about how much time it takes for the mask to dry – then wash off. I use a washcloth to wipe off the mask (dip in warm water, wring out, wipe). It's not only easier this way, I also feel it leaves my skin softer and brighter, probably due to the gentle extra exfoliation from the washcloth.

The Caudalie Instant Detox face mask does an excellent job of balancing the oiliness in my oily-combination skin. It seems to soak up any excess oiliness, leaving my skin looking and feeling fresh, but without leaving it feeling tight or dry. My skin looks brighter and feels smoother. I amn't very disciplined with my skincare routine, but I have used this face mask quite regularly (about once a week when I am in the take-care-of-skin mode) and love it especially for days when my skin feels a little extra oily. Definitely one of the best clay-based face masks I have tried in a long time and one that I would recommend for oily-combination skin types.

The Tom Ford Lip Lacquers are housed in elegant glossy brown and gold tubes, a design that's typical of most Tom Ford makeup. A small clear portion at one end allows for easy identification of the color. The shade range is mostly deep and bright reds, plums, and some brighter pinks. The only neutralish shade I found was Pussycat. The colors are intensely saturated, and the formula feels quite luxurious. It's also definitely long-lasting. While the swatches wiped off easily, I needed a heavy-duty makeup remover to get the stain off the back of my hand. I am not a fan of metallic lip colors, but if I ever had to try one, I would definitely pick the Tom Ford version of the metallic Lip Lacquers. The colors look like molten metal rather than shimmery, chunky glitter floating in a gloss. My favorite shades among the ones I swatches would be Pussycat and Violet Fatale, and since I have perpetually dry lips, I prefer the more glossy Patent formula.

Among the liquid lip colors I have tried recently, the Tom Ford Liquid Lip Lacquers are definitely the most luxurious. Perfect splurge!

The MAC x Aaliyah collection is a small, well-curated mix of colors that, at least to me, does seem like a representation of Aaliyah's style. The lip colors range from beige to vampy deep purples and black. The bronzer could have had a shade or two more to choose from – the one in this collection seems like a good pick for those with medium-dark skin tones. On my skin, it pretty much blends with my skin color but does warm it up a bit. My favorite product from this collection is the eyeshadow x 9 palette. I love these compact eyeshadow palettes from MAC, and the Age Ain't Nothing eyeshadow palette follows that trend. The colors included are a mix of neutral and warm-toned metallics that add a shine without any chunky glitter. The mattes seem perfect for use as transition shades and/or add a darker, smokey effect. These are the sort of colors that I tend to use, so for me this palette would be a great pick.

Overall, the MAC x Aaliyah makeup collection has some lovely products to choose from – do give them a try the next time you are at a MAC counter.

Marc Jacobs Beauty's newest launch is a lip gloss and balm hybrid – Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Stick. The packaging design looks like the regular Marc Jacobs lip glosses, but what looks like the black cap is actually the tube housing the balm-like gloss stick. I find the packaging quite brilliant, but it might be a bit impractical to pick out from a jumbled up bag of lip products. Unlike regular twist-up tubes of balm, these gloss sticks have a more controlled twist, and you can actually hear/feel the clicks as you turn the glossy stick out (kind of like twist up eyeliners). More on that in a bit. The product itself, despite the packaging, looks and feels exactly like a very creamy, tinted lip balm. I love moisturizing, creamy lip colors, and tinted lip balms and glosses are among my favorites. The new Marc Jacobs Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Sticks are a nifty combination of the two. The packaging makes it look like a gloss, but inside is a twist-up balm-like product. The twisting mechanism turns out just enough product for a few uses, and helps keep it clean as well as nonmessy. Do not twist out more than you need like you would with lipsticks, because this does not retract, and I saw a scarily messed up tester at my local Sephora. The product is very, very creamy, and this type of packaging helps the balm holds it shape (still not sure how well it would work on a hot day). The color payoff is like a tinted lip balm, and for someone with unevenly pigmented lips like mine, they would show up better over a lipliner.

Overall, I really liked these Marc Jacobs Gloss Sticks. The formula feels very moisturizing, and the colors, while sheer, are easy to wear and would look good for an effortless and casual makeup look. They can also be worn over a lipliner or a lipstick for added color as well as a moisturizing effect. A good pick for those who like sheer, moisturizing lip products.

The new Urban Decay Born to Run eyeshadow palette features 21 eyeshadows, in colors ranging from metallic bronze and browns to bolder pinks and plums. First off, I love the design of the palette – the photos on the outside, and the generously sized mirror inside. The colors included in the palette are just the kind that I would reach for, and there's a good balance of mattes and metallics in there. Some of the mattes seemed a bit dusty (but pigmented), but the black Jet (described as black with deep shimmering purple shift) seemed dry and difficult to swatch. Of course, this could be because I tried the tester in store, and the eyeshadows might perform well when used over primer and/or applied with a brush. Colors like Drift and Smog, on the other hand, felt so smooth and pigmented, so maybe it's got something to do with the finish too.

Overall, the Urban Decay Born to Run eyeshadow palette has some great colors, and it is quite travel-friendly. I could actually get away with using only this one palette since these are the sort of colors I reach for most often. This is a very versatile palette and be used for both neutral, work-appropriate makeup looks as well as for adding a pop of color to your makeup routine. If that's the kind of makeup palette you are looking, then do give the Urban Decay Born to Run eyeshadow palette a try.

The new NARS Full Vinyl Lip Lacquers are intensely saturated, and while the finish is like a lipgloss, the color goes on quite intense. The formula feels like a thick lipgloss and sticky/tacky, which would ensure a longer staying power – and a change from the matte finishes that have been the norm for a while now. They also feel quite moisturizing. All that makes this perfect for someone like me, who prefers the more lip-friendly formula of lipglosses, but I am not sure how transfer-resistant these would be or how well they would hold up through a normal day (which in my case would definitely involve food). The applicator design, which I read is supposed to help with even application, seemed good but nothing I could discern as being specially helpful. I only used it for swatching, though. Even when I apply makeup (at home – I never ever try on testers!!), I generally use a lip brush to apply glosses, partly because of ease of application but also because it just feels cleaner. The colors and the formula do not seem all that very unique, either, and I am sure that something similar can be found in a lot of other brands too. That said, NARS is one of my favorite brands, and if I was in the market for a pigmented lipgloss, I would probably pick one of these – Valencia, maybe.

The rich, warm colors in the Moroccan Spice palette, and the mix of metallic and matte shades make it pretty perfect in my world. There are no chalky, dry mattes here, and the mettalic shadoes don't have anything too glittery or shimmery. Yes, I know, some people like glitter and shimmer and know how to use it properly, but I amn't one of those people. I prefer textures that won't migrate across my face as the day wears on. I also found the colors a bit muted, making colors like Saffron or Cumin Get It a lot more wearable for people who are hesitant to try brighter or warmer colors like these. Moroccan Spice could be your gateway to trying bolder shades. Going by online reviews, though, I think they would benefit from a primer to latch on to for the colors to show up better, and I think the new Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Amplifying Eye Primer (supposed to be tackier than the average primer) might have been designed with just this in mind.

Even for someone with simpler eye makeup skills (that's me), this palette offers a lot of choice in terms of possible makeup looks, from softer neutrals to darker smokey eyes and even some brighter colors like Evil Genie. Overall, I cannot find anything to fault in the palette, at least with how the shadows swatch.

If you love warm-toned shades and/or love a rich metallic eyeshadows, then do give the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Moroccan Spice eyeshadow palette a try.

I love reading about makeup and skincare dupes, but as tempting as it might be to believe that a $10 cream is exactly the same as something that costs $200, it's almost always one of those too-good-to-be-true stories (or a lousy $200 cream 😏). Even accounting for the advertising and packaging markup that contributes to a higher price tag, a lot of the pricier products do contain pricier ingredients and/or higher concentrations. That's not to say, though, that an inexpensive product cannot be awesome or that a pricey one will work miracles. You could just find two equally great products, without labelling anything as a dupe, as is the case with two of my favorite facial sprays – the Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist and the pocket-friendly SW Basics Rose Water.

Like any good luxury skincare brand, Omorovicza has a story. Their products are inspired by the mineral rich thermal waters of Budapest and deliver similar skincare goodness using a patented mineral delivery system that's developed by a Hungarian Nobel-prize winning dermatology laboratory. And the inspiration for the Queen of Hungary mist is the Queen of Hungary water (reported to be a distilled product made using rosemary and alcohol), the world's first perfume. A perfect blend of modern day science and old world romanticism that actually works. The mist smells lovely, with a mix of orange blossom and rosewater that's instantly uplifting. The pump delivers a fine, even spray, and I can drench myself in this without ever feeling like I sprayed on too much. It adds just the right amount of hydration and moisture to the skin without making it oily or greasy. Yes, it's a splurge – a decadent, luxurious treat – but definitely one that lives up to the hype surrounding it. I like to use this as the last step of my skincare routine, as a fine spray that adds just a hint of moisture, and then move on to my sunscreen and foundation. I find this more effective at making my makeup look natural and non-cakey rather than using a finishing spray at the end of my makeup routine. Not really a normal way of using it I suppose, but it works for me.

SW Basics is a recent skincare find from the Target aisles. What attracted me to the brand initially was the availability of smaller/trial sizes of a lot of their products. I don't know why more brands don't bother doing this! Sensible marketing aside, the brand also features natural, organic ingredients in their products. The SW Basics Rose Water has only one ingredient in it – steam distilled organic rosewater. No preservatives. It smells like the roses from my mom's garden, and unlike any other rose water toner I have tried, this does not make my skin oily or red. It's perfect as a soothing, refreshing mist on a warm day or as the last step to my regular skincare routine. I also use it, just as with the Omorovicza spray, as a moisture boost to keep my makeup from looking cakey, and it works just as well. Maybe a little less moisturizing for drier skin days and/or winters, but that's just me trying really hard to pick out differences. I do have some issues with the packaging (love the labeling, design, colors), with the bottle leaking if it falls on to its side, and the spray could be a little more even/fine. Overall, though, the SW Basics Rose Water is a great pick, and I am definitely going to try out more of their products.

The SW Basics Rose Water is a great buy, whether you are looking for an inexpensive facial spray or are on the lookout for a good soothing facial mist. The Omorovicza Queen of Hungary mist on the other hand is a splurge, but one that truly delivers both in terms of product quality as well as a perfect delivery system. Between the two, I couldn't pick a favorite – maybe buy a bottle of each and give both a try 😁.

Lavanila products are a go-to for anyone looking for more natural options, and their range of healthy deodorants are one of my favorites. With no parabens, aluminum, or propylene glycol, these deodorants rely on high quality essential oils and an innovative beta-glucan (sourced from oats, barley, and sugar) technology to deliver long-lasting freshness. The new Elements collection uses specific essential oils to enhance our connection to the elements, and the version I got to try out is the Vanilla + Earth for Balance. With soft, woody notes of sandalwood, patchouli, and vanilla, this deodorant supposedly enhances focus and concentration. Essential oils work their magic in mysterious (to me) ways, and while I generally take their health and wellness benefits for granted, there's no denying that most of them smell awesome. Vanilla is a favorite of mine, and as with most other Lavanila products I have tried, the Vanila + Earth deodorant is brimming with the sweet vanilla goodness, rounded off with the warmer, woody notes.

The deodorant itself has a soft, velvety feel, and it goes on transparent without leaving any white, chalky residue as it dries. I find the initial fragrance of this deodorant a bit heavy – when I open the lid – but I don't really notice it much after I apply. I have quite sensitive skin and haven't had any sensitivities with using this deodorant either, and it manages to hold up through the day (moderate activity lifestyle). People do have varying reactions to essential oils, though, so do check - if possible - before buying.

As someone who goes through a ton of skincare products, it's a relief to know that there are brands out there making an effort to make smarter, safer products, and Lavanila is definitely one of them. I love how they incorporate essential oils and natural fragrances into their products and their commitment to use safer ingredients. Next time you are out looking for a healthier alternative to your daily deodorant, do give the Lavanila Vanilla + Earth Healthy deodorant a try!

Summer is a fabulous time of the year for many reasons, especially if you love gardening like I do. As much as I love all the outdoor time, I also have quite sensitive, dry skin that gets all itchy and irritated with the heat. This is usually when I switch out (or at least alternate) my heavier moisturizers with lighter, easier-to-use lotions. Two new ones I have been trying out recently are the Curel Hydratherapy Wet Skin Moisturizer and the Korres Olive Body Balsam.

The Curel Hydratherapy Wet Skin moisturizer is a new-to-me product. Unlike regular moisturizers, this goes on wet/damp skin, and there's nothing more to do after that. No rinsing off, no scrubbing, nothing. Just pat dry skin with a towel as you would regularly do and get on with the day. The moisturizer is light and absorbs easily into the skin, leaving skin smooth and soft with no visible residue. With any skincare, fast and easy is almost as important to me as being effective. It's so much easier to stick to a routine when it's short and convenient, which is why the Curel Hydratherapy Wet Skin moisturizer is perfect. Bonus, it has a barely noticeable scent that won't clash with my perfume or be overwhelming in any way.

Korres Olive Body Balsam is a light moisturizer with a lovely green floral scent to it. With my dry skin, I do find it a little too light, but for those with normal skin and/or for humid days, this would be a good pick. I keep it around to use as a hand cream since the tube is easy to carry around, and this doesn't leave my hands sticky or greasy.

These lipsticks might be a new discovery for me, but going by how many of these lipsticks seem to be sold out at my local Sephora, these seem to be quite popular. Most of the colors that I wanted, a lot of neutrals, were sold out, and even some of the reds and pinks. The $8 pricetag might contribute somewhat to the popularity, but the lipsticks themselves feel quite nice. Creamy, pigmented, and so many colors to choose from. The packaging isn't very sturdy, and going by what I saw of the testers, the tops of the cover (where the names are) seem to be especially flimsy. Despite that, I do think these lipsticks are a good buy.

Do give these a try in-store or just pick up online (since they are so difficult to get hold of).

The Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Shine lipsticks feature glossy red packaging, similar to that of the other lipsticks from this brand. These lipsticks claim to deliver vibrant, intense color in a single swipe with the hydration and creamy texture of a balm. Some of the colors like Maharajah (506), Four Hundred (400), and Desire (301) do deliver rich color, but colors like Fatale (503), Smile (100) or Nuda (101) would not show up as easily on pigmented like mine. I tend to use such colors over a lip pencil, so it's not really an issue for me, and I am assuming most people who reach for balm-like lipsticks aren't looking for opaque coverage. For me, these Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Shine lipsticks are perfect. I love how creamy they feel, I love how wearable most of the colors are, and I could happily pick up a bunch of colors from this range.

The MAC Grand Illusion Liquid Lip Colors are thick lipglosses, with most of these being quite opaque by gloss standards, though not as much as a liquid lipstick would be. The metallic pearl pigment in the gloss adds sparkly, shimmery dimension to the gloss color, but I was expecting something like a duochrome effect - multidimensional color showing through depending on the angle, and at least on swatches, I didn't see this effect. Metallic liquid lips have been showing up in quite a few fashion shoots, and if you are a fan of the molten metal editorial looks (like the one in the promo pic above), these lipglosses would make for interesting picks. Also great if you have been wanting to try out colors like green or purple - the slightly sheerer payoff of these lipglosses makes them easier to try than more opaque, matte lipsticks.

Going by the name, I was expecting a liquid lipstick, similar to the Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip, and I was quite curious as to how a liquid could possibly be a crayon! These Liquid Lip Crayons definitely start off as solid, chubby crayons, but the formula is so creamy, it almost melts on to the skin/lips like a liquid lipstick. The Marc Jacobs Liquid Lip Crayon formula feels fabulous - creamy, smooth, and quite pigmented, with a bit of a shine (thanks to something described as "ghost pearl" - their words, not mine). There are some beautiful neutrals in every Marc Jacobs lip color range I have tried, and the Liquid Lip Crayons are no exception. Send Nudes, Night Mauves, and Burn Notice are beautiful nude-neutral shades, and Pink Straight is a brighter, easy-to-wear pink. I love moisturizing, creamy lip colors, so the Marc Jacobs Liquid Lip Crayons would be easy favorites for me.

Much as I loved the soft, creamy formula of the Marc Jacobs Liquid Lip Crayons, this also makes for a very soft product that seems very prone to accidental smashing/breakage. Using a lip brush would probably help, but that does defeat the purpose of a lip crayon then, doesn't it? If using directly on to the lips (or swatching like I did), use very light pressure to avoid breaking the crayon.

True to claims, Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle lipsticks pack rich color in a lightweight, matte formula. The soft matte texture is easy to apply, and at least on swatches, the lipstick glides on smoothly and seems like a nondrying formula - similar to Marc Jacobs lipsticks or the Givenchy Le Rouge. There is a shade or two for any makeup mood, whether it be bold vampy plums and browns or bright pops of orange or pink, and of course, the rainbow continues with blue, lilac, and green. Not really the colors I would reach for, but probably because of the soft matte texture, even the green and navy seem surprisingly wearable. I rarely venture beyond the neutrals, and colors like Spanked and Single (or S1ngle) would be perfect for someone like me. I loved Candy Venom as well as Ma'Damn too - they seem like colors that would brighten even the dullest days.

The only issue I noticed with these lipsticks was the packaging. Of course, I have only tried the ones on display, and I do not know if the actual lipsticks are any different, but these lipsticks are quite slim, and coupled with their soft texture, I do feel they might break off easily. They did seem a little delicate :P

Tom Ford Boys & Girls Lip Colors collection includes clutch-sized limited-edition lipsticks, similar to (and an expansion of) the Lips & Boys collection that came out last year. There are 6 new shades in the Boys lipsticks and 50 new Girls lipsticks. The Boys and Girls differ in both the packaging as well as the textures of the lipsticks. The lipsticks in the Boys range, which come in dark brown and gold tubes, seem quite pigmented while the Girls lipsticks - white and gold tubes - seem to be softer sheer and shimmery colors. The new Tom Ford Boys and Girls lip color collection features a mix of new shades (Girls) and some repromotes from the Lips and Boys collection. The Girls lipsticks are a mix of creamy and shimmery shades, and most of the colors seem slightly sheer. While not really the sort of colors I reach for often, my favorites from this range would be the more pigmented and/or brighter ones like Zelda, Mariko, Scarlett, or Anne. Among the sheerer shades I liked Valentina, Joan, Sasha, and Bianca. I amn't a huge fan of shimmers or pastel lip colors, but that's just my personal preference.

These lipsticks are described as clutch-sized, which seems to be the Tom Ford code for "mini." The size is a little larger than most deluxe sample sizes. I have never used up any lipstick so far, and I prefer buying smaller sizes now. A lot of higher-end lipsticks are available in full sizes in a similar price range, so this might be something to keep in mind if you haven't tried these lipsticks before.

Overall, a good pick for Tom Ford fans and/or if you prefer easier-to-use-up, smaller-sized lipsticks.

Tom Ford eyeshadows are a mix of textures, some better than the others. I prefer pigmented matte and velvet/satin finish eyeshadows, so not surprisingly, I would pick those among the Tom Ford eyeshadows that I tried. Blonde Venus, Starlet, Vertigo, Loveshade, Dark Victory, Agenda Rouge, Video Tape, Night Cast are easy to like for someone with medium-darker skin tone like mine (and if you are always picking warmer-toned browns like I seem to). Among the more vibrant shades, Photographic and Infrared really stand out, but I have a feeling they would perform better with a dampened brush rather than just patted on. As for the glimmery, sparkly shades like Emerald Sun, Tempete Blue, or Black Onyx (especially this one) - the colors look so rich and dark in the pan and Emerald Sun even feels like soft pigment to touch, but they go on as sheer washes on skin. Personally, I don't like such shades/textures, but I have seen these textures used beautifully by a lot of makeup artists.

At $36 each, these are pricey eyeshadows, but Tom Ford isn't exactly known for being inexpensive, and I think the packaging of the products does live up to the price. The eyeshadows are housed in small, beautiful compacts - described as clutch-sized, but I think a lot smaller than regular clutches 😛 - and they would definitely add a touch of luxury to any makeup collection. I have splurged on quite a few products in the past mostly because of the luxurious packaging, and I prefer much simpler, easier-to-organize and functional products now, but I think some of the colors are quite pretty, and I wouldn't mind picking up one or two shadows from this range.

Holiday season is my favorite time of the year to shop for makeup, not just for the sales but also because a lot of new makeup collections launch this time of the year. New to MAC counters is a makeup collection in collaboration with Youtuber Patrick Starrr. With a makeup philosophy of more is more, I was expecting the MAC Patrick Starrr collection to be a glitter and glam extravaganza. Turns out, it's more of a neutral, elegant glam. The silver and white packaging is in line with a sparkly white holiday theme, but the products and colors would work well for any time of the year. Scroll on for more photos and swatches.

As someone who loves neutral, softer makeup looks, I love the colors included in the MAC x Patrick Starrr makeup collection. That said, there are quite a few products from the permanent line in this collection and could be a bit of a let down for serious MAC fans. The two warm brown eyeshadow quads looked awfully similar side by side (though, of course, easily differentiated with swatches) and apart from Omigaud, the eyeshadows can be picked up as singles from the MAC permanent lineup. The eyeshadows in the quad do feel a little more pigmented/vibrant than the ones I have at home - not sure if it's because mine are quite old 😛. Among the lip colors, MamaStarrr lipglass and lipstick are on my wishlist. The collection also includes a loose setting powder - it won't be a Patrick Starrr collection without one! The powder seems a little light for my skin tone, but it has a beige color to it and might be a good pick for those who like a matte/baked makeup look. Overall, a lovely makeup collection with beautiful, easy-to-use colors and products.

Belif Aqua Bomb Sheet Mask ($8)

I am quite obsessed with face masks, and sheet masks in particular are among my favorites. It also helps that a lot of these masks are available in single-sheet packaging, priced just right to round out my Sephora shopping basket. My current favorite is the Belif Aqua Bomb Sheet Mask. I have been using the Belif Aqua Bomb moisturizer for ages now, so I just had to try out this sheet mask variant. The formula/ingredients are similar to that of the moisturizer, but the essence used in the mask seems like a heavier version of the Aqua Bomb moisturizer (probably because alcohol is missing on the ingredient list here). If you have normal-dry skin and/or live some place super dry (low humidity, indoor heating, etc.), this could be the perfect mask for you - read on to know more.

Belif Aqua Bomb Sheet Mask - How to Use
The instructions (and ingredients list) are included on the back of the package. Fold along the marked area, squeeze to pop the essence section and massage/mix it into the cotton mask. Tear open pack, use the mask. The one issue I had when I first used this mask was the writing was a bit faint and I couldn't really figure out where to fold the mask or even get it to pop - and this was after watching a helpful video on the Sephora website! It's quite easy now, but it definitely seemed like an impossible task the first time 😂

Fold the package as directed in the instructions (along the 1 and 2 markings on the pack).

Give the essence portion a good squeeze - not press daintily like I seem to be doing in the photo - until you hear a loud pop. That's the essence pouch popping open inside.

Hold up the essence portion and ensure that all of the essence is squeezed out of it's pouch (through the portion marked "POP") and into the section containing the cotton sheet mask. Massage the essence into the cotton mask through the packet to help it spread evenly. There will be dry bits on the mask if you skip this step.

Belif Aqua Bomb Sheet Mask - the mask uses organic, unbleached cotton so it's not going to be a pristine white colored mask. There is a generous amount of essence included in this mask, and the thin cotton sheet mask will be soaking-dripping wet when you pull it out of the pouch.

Like most sheet masks, the Belif Aqua Bomb mask needs some minor tweaking to ensure it's properly set on my face, but there is enough material to cover my face (not the tip of the nose, though), and it doesn't slip off my face even if I don't lie down promptly. I haven't tried walking/standing while using this, though, so I couldn't vouch for it's antigravity powers 😛 As for results, the mask leaves my skin saturated with moisture, just the way the Aqua Bomb moisturizer does, but the essence used in the mask feels heavier on the skin. I leave the mask on for about an hour, and there is always a heavy residue on my face once I remove the mask. I do pat it in, but it just sits on the skin and takes a long time to absorb in. For this reason, I prefer using this as an overnight mask. I have oily-combination skin, though, and have never had breakouts or greasy skin the next day with this mask. My skin always feels hydrated, plump, smooth and moisturized the next day. Results are most obvious for about 2 days, so this is perfect to use when my skin is feeling extra dry or stressed. It gives the perfect boost of moisture which I can then maintain with my regular skincare routine.

So yes, I love the mask, and I see this hopping into my shopping basket a lot more times in the future. That said, it might be a bit heavy for someone with very oily skin and probably not a good pick if you don't like a lot of residue left behind after using face masks (you could still give it a try as an overnight mask).

The one thing I would change about the mask, though, is the the packaging. Each of these single-use packs comes packaged in a hard, clear plastic protective envelope, and it is an unnecessary lot of plastic to add to the trash. The plastic protective envelope does keep the pouch from popping before use, but I do wish Belif (as well as other beauty companies) looked into making product packaging a bit more ecofriendly.

I love neutral eyeshadows, and with its mix of mattes and subtle shimmers, the MAC In the The Flesh Eyeshadow palette gets an easy yes from me. The eyeshadows seem pigmented - though some of the shadows might not be showing up too well on my darker Indian skin - and the formula seems pretty good. I didn't find any of the eyeshadows difficult to swatch, nothing seemed too powdery or chalky, and I think they would work well over a decent primer/base. There are quite a few colors in there that I could use for simple everyday makeup looks and/or darker smokey eyes, and if I had to pick one for travel, I could actually get away with just this one palette. Some of the shadows might show up better on lighter skin tones, but overall, if you are looking for soft, easy-to-use neutral eyeshadows packed in a convenient palette, do give the MAC In the Flesh Eyeshadow palette a try.

The Tom Ford Soleil Summer 2017 makeup collection includes some beautiful products in classy white and gold packaging, and includes generously sized bronzer and blush-highlighters as well as adorable petite lip balms. The clutch-sized lip balms in this collection are similar in size to the Tom Ford Lips & Boys lipsticks, and while they are smaller than regular lipsticks, they definitely don't feel like tiny GWP minis. The Tom Ford Soleil lip balms offer sheer pops of color, much like tinted lip balms, and seem quite smooth and moisturizing. On lighter (or less pigmented lips), the colors would show up well, though of course it's not going to look like a lipstick or even like some of the more pigmented lipglosses.

It's Tom Ford, so yes it's pricey, but a nice pick if you are in the mood for a little clutch-sized luxury 😀
