THQ has told Digital Spy that despite it appearing in the demo reel last year at E3, Metro: Last Light will not be headed for a launch on the Wii U. THQ‘s Global Brand Manager Mark Madsen explained that it’s certainly possible it could appear but the title is not in development right now.

“If it does happen, it won’t sim-ship with the other SKUs, but if the opportunity arises we’ll take a look at it.”

Metro: Last Light is a sequel to Metro: 2033 that originally launched back in 2010. It appears that the game will be bringing back the bullet currency system. THQ still plans to release the game on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. They are looking to stick with developing on consoles that they are familiar with and don’t want to jump ahead of themselves.

A great pick up and play vintage collection that contains three nostalgic games all ported very well. It's easily one of those games to play on a rainy day or to pass the time.

Read more at We Got This Covered

Vintage Collections are an interesting piece of software to review, because you have to decide how you want to review the software in question. Monster World comes to us from SEGA, who also provided Alex Kidd & Co. on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PSN this past week. The Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World combines three games into one and, for the first time outside of Japan, we get Monster World IV. The new collection features achievements, leaderboards, and recordable/downloadable game sessions. It’s an interesting collection of RPG titles that brings back the classic days of SEGA gaming. Though, how do these games shape up in today’s high-tech world?

Wonder Boy in Monster Land is played inside the arcade cabinet machine of the three set ups you first see when you boot up the game. It is a sequel to the original Wonder Boy that originally launched back in 1986 and takes place 11 years after the first game. Wonder Boy in Monster Land is a classic RPG that isn’t complicated and doesn’t have an overly-cluttered menu system. It’s a fast paced action game and doesn’t provide you with much storytelling simply because it simply doesn’t have time too.

The game is quick on its feet and therefore you don’t have much time to chat with NPCs or stop to heal at the local potion shop. The game is on a timer so unless your familiar with timed games, you’ll more than likely find yourself at the “continue?” screen more often than not. It can also be a difficult game when you reach the bosses as they could take you out within the first few seconds. You’ll have to plan your strategy carefully and have to stock up on those potions. Other than that it’s a very well made title that can keep you coming back for multiple play-throughs.

Wonder Boy in Monster World is much of the same concept as Monster Land but is much more slowly paced. This game concentrates on the adventure of its nature. If you remember the Final Fantasy days, you’ll be able to save your game at the inn and talk to NPCs in different towns.

The game controls fairly well, though keep in mind that you won’t need quick reflexes to keep on time with the pace of the game. For those modern gamers out there, the controls might seem a bit simplistic then what your used too but remember, this is a retro collection that would more appeal to those with nostalgic feelings of the past.

I’d say the bright spot of the collection is Monster World IV, which is getting its first localization in the US after being an exclusive release in Japan. It feels great and controls very well. It’s also an adventure game with heavy focus on platforming and has you fighting a variety of monsters and bosses.

This time around you are in control of Asha who is on a journey to find and help the spirits after hearing their whisper for help. As you control Asha you’ll also learn the ability to utilize Pepe’s abilities to fight your way through to the spirits. Since the collection is based off the Sega Genesis version of the game, your controller formats to that control scheme. So it might seem awkward when you are going through the menu or even just trying to select your items or talk to different characters

Sega has managed to put together a great presentation that’s like a blast from the past. When you boot up the game you are greeted with the opening logo and a tune that sounds like a classic rock version of the old Sega Genesis songs. When you head into to the main menu of the game, it’s your like you’re in your own arcade room.

There are three different stations all designed with mini Sega Genesis’s on the right for two games and an arcade cabinet machine on the left side. The game is fitted to play on a standard definition television so those of you with HD sets out there will be disappointed. It is a retro game after all so you’ll see some decorated game art on the sides of mini screen when you pick out of the collection. When it comes to other features in the collection, you’ll have leaderboards to keep track of progress.

Recordable/Downloadable game sessions is also a nice feature, especially when you want to show off to your friends how your game session went and what you did to get through the game especially if you plan on doing a speed run. The music is also a nice mix of various midi tunes that are very well orchestrated and are uplifting.

In the options, you can play with the different settings to change resolutions and graphical filters if you’re looking for a different look during your session. The games look great overall and the 16-buit graphics really pop. The colors are vibrant and have very detailed environments and backgrounds. I think Monster World IV looks the best out of the three and it certainly shows the amount of quality that was put into porting the game.

Overall, the Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World is a great pick up for anyone looking for three very well made action RPGs and are looking to take a break from the ones of modern times. Monster World IV is a nice addition to the group and it’s a shame that it never made it to being in cartridge form as it surely would’ve been a great experience.

This review is based on a copy of the game that was provided to us for review purposes.

I am fanatically devoted to silent film, not exactly because of their the plots or set designs, but because of the way the transformed the entertainment and film industry. So when I heard that Jennifer DeLia and Julie Pacino were beginning work on a biopic of America’s Sweetheart, Mary Pickford, I quickly became excited.

The film is to be based upon Eileen Whitford‘s biography Pickford: The Woman Who Made Hollywood. It will cover the silent film star’s life including her career in hundreds of shorts and feature length films and her interactions with other major stars such as Douglas Fairbanks, Charlie Chaplin and D.W. Griffith.

The biopic is also said to cover Pickford’s founding of the United Artists and her role in the creation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. In truth, there is a lot of ground to cover and it will be interesting to see how DeLia and Pacino along with writer Josh Fagin (Warrior) deal with Pickford’s life.

Lily Rabe (American Horror Story) will take on the role of Mary Pickford and Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) is interested in directing the film, though early reports placed producer Jennifer DeLia as taking the director’s chair.

The big news of the week, however, is that the producers, according to Forbes (via ThePlaylist), are hoping to get Jude Law to play the role of Pickford’s husband and film star, Douglas Fairbanks. Fairbanks, known as “The King of Hollywood,” was famous for his adventurous and swashbuckling roles in films such as The Thief of Bagdad, Robin Hood and The Mark of Zorro. Mary Pickford and Fairbanks were married in 1920, until the divorced in 1936.

I think that the producers are definitely on to something with Jude Law, whose physique already resembles Fairbanks. The actor has a classic touch to all that he does that I think would make him perfect for the role. He also has that suave charm that would work well.

Though not confirmed yet, we’ll keep you posted on if Law signs on or not.

Lionsgate is close to announcing who will play the coveted role of Finnick Odair in the highly anticipated Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.

According to E!, the studio has created a three-man shortlist that includes Armie Hammer (The Social Network), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), and Taylor Kitsch (John Carter). E! expects Lionsgate to make their final decision in the next week, though they note the studio is also considering unknowns for the part.

No matter what, the studio has crafted an impressive shortlist, inspiring confidence that the stellar casting that helped make The Hunger Games such a huge success will continue for its sequel.

A word of advice to Lionsgate, though: if there’s even the slightest possibility that John Carter and Battleship both bombed spectacularly because Taylor Kitsch is somehow cursed, I’d stay away from him. Given that Armie Hammer is about to head his own franchise – The Lone Ranger - he’s probably not the guy you want either. Hedlund seems to be the best match, as he’s proven very adept at sinking into an ensemble and giving solid blockbuster performances in the past. He’d be a very strong addition to The Hunger Games universe.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire arrives in theatres November 22nd, 2013. Filming begins later this year, with Francis Lawrence directing.

We’ve got two cool pieces of news for Game of Thrones fans today thanks to a comprehensive update from /Film. The first is that the Season 2 finale, “Valar Morghulis,” will run 64 minutes when it airs this Sunday evening, June 3rd. Given that Game of Thrones episodes usually run in the 54-minute range, that means the episode has been allotted an extra ten minutes.

That’s good to hear. As I noted in my review of last week’s episode, “Blackwater,” the show has a ton of plot threads to wrap up – or at least reach a satisfying pause point – in the finale, and while an extra ten minutes doesn’t completely alleviate my concerns, it does raise my confidence in the creative team’s ability to pull this off.

After those extra ten minutes, though, fans will have to wait ten whole months for Season 3. Prior to today, all we knew so far was that the season would adapt the first half of the third book in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series, A Storm of Swords. Now, though, we also have a neat little guide to which characters we’ll be meeting when the show returns (courtesy Entertainment Weekly):

– Mance Rayder: We’ve heard about him all season. A former member of the Night’s Watch who became the “King Beyond the Wall,” the leader of the Wildlings.

– Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior.

– Jojen Reed; Meera Reed: A teenage brother and sister duo with special insights.

– Edmure Tully: A brash young member of the Tully family.

– Ser Brynden Tully (The Blackfish): Catelyn Stark’s uncle.

– Lady Selyse Florent: Stannis Baratheon’s wife.

– Shireen: Stannis’ daughter.

– Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns): Margaery Tyrell’s sharp-witted grandmother.

– Beric Dondarrion: A skilled knight who is the leader of the outlaw group Brotherhood Without Banners.

– Thoros of Myr: A red priest who follows the same religion as Melisandre.

– Tormund Giantsbane: A Wildling raider.

Neat stuff. And if that’s not enough characters for you, don’t worry. Showrunner David Benioff assured EW there will be “…a few others…holy hell that’s a lot of new faces.” Indeed. But what would Game of Thrones be without its incomprehensibly large cast?

No casting news on those characters just yet, but for fans of the books, I’m sure the list will pique your curiosity. Personally, I’ve been holding off on the novels to experience the show as an ongoing TV series, and I’m just excited to see how all these new faces will be integrated with the already monumental cast.

Game of Thrones Season 3 begins Spring 2013.

Simon, I could kiss you right now.

After months of incessant, obnoxious, unfounded internet speculation, Simon Pegg – who co-stars as Lt. Commander Montgomery Scott - has finally put to bed the long-gestating rumor that iconic villain Khan will appear in J.J. Abrams‘ untitled sequel to 2009′s Star Trek.

When asked about the film’s antagonist in an exhaustive interview/profile in Telegraph (which I recommend reading in full if you’re a fan of the actor), Pegg states:

“It’s not Khan,” replies Pegg, annoyed. “That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not … I think people just want to have a scoop. It annoys me – it’s beyond the point to just ferret around for spoilers all the time to try to be the first to break them … It just spoils the film … It masquerades as interest in the movie but really it’s just nosiness and impatience. You just want to say, ‘Oh f— off! Wait for the film!’”

So with one of the film’s lead stars saying, flat out, that the villain is not Khan, can we finally shut up about all this?

My sentiments on the matter are in perfect alignment with Pegg’s. I don’t understand the fanboy culture that demands every possible rumor must be a news story, and I really cannot fathom why the concept of Khan appearing in Star Trek 2 has been blown to such extreme proportions over the last few months. Pegg’s right – it’s nothing more than impatience, and it spoils the experience for those who would like to learn about the villain when they finally sit down, in a theatre, to watch the new movie.

With all that in mind, the cynic in me doubts that internet speculation will cease. It didn’t die when J.J. Abrams himself denied the Khan rumor, it didn’t perish when Benedict Cumberbatch - a man who is certainly not of Mexican descent like original Khan actor Ricardo Montalban – was cast as the film’s villain, and Pegg’s words probably won’t kill the rumor either. We can only hope, I suppose.

Factual details on Star Trek 2 have been very scarce so far, which is a good thing. I look forward to finally watching a blockbuster that hasn’t been completely spoiled by the time I buy a ticket.

The film arrives in theatres May 17th, 2013.

Still fresh off the high that comes with debuting a film at Cannes, Cosmopolis compadres David Cronenberg and Robert Pattinson are already eyeing their next collaboration: Maps to the Stars, with the Canadian director also looking to have frequent muse Viggo Mortenson join.

Cosmopolis received mixed reviews from critics at the prestigious film festival, but that’s pretty much par for the course for the eccentric director’s less mainstream efforts. One thing that does seem to be rather unanimous is that the drama is essentially a showcase for Pattinson, who successfully sheds his “Twilight” brand in the film.

Viggo Mortenson, on the other hand, has worked with Cronenberg on three straight films (A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method), with Eastern Promises earning the thesp a Best Actor Oscar nomination. Though neither actor is officially signed on, Mortenson and Pattinson are both very interested.

So what is this mysterious project you may ask? Maps to the Stars is described as a very extreme film “about two child actors ruined by Hollywood’s depravity” and will be scribed by screenwriter Bruce Wagner (A Nightmare on Elm Street III: Dream Warriors).

Before you get excited about the next Cronenberg mind trip, the director tried to get financing pushed through five years ago to no avail.

“It’s not a go picture. We have a script that I love that Bruce wrote. It’s a very difficult film to get made as was ‘Cosmopolis’ actually. Whether I can get this movie to happen, I tried it five years ago, I couldn’t get it made, so I still might not be able to get it made,” said Cronenberg.

So there you have it. We’ll keep you updated as things develop with Maps to the Stars – an interesting sounding film from a great auteur that I hope sees the light of day.

Now, every year when E3 comes around, hyperbole becomes the norm for developers, but I’ll be damned if the new teaser didn’t get me excited. The Ubisoft press conference will be taking place at 6 PM EST and, of course, we will be doing live coverage of everything from inside of the WeGotThisCovered.com bunker.
If you’re like me, you cut yourself off from all bonus materials about Prometheus that could lead to spoilers weeks ago, let alone just under two weeks from its U.S. release. The good news is that 20th Century Fox has provided us with something completely spoiler-free via this new featurette about the production design of the film’s titular ship.

Considering they named the movie after this thing, you have to imagine it plays a big part in Ridley Scott‘s new film. You can listen to Scott, writer Damon Lindelof and production designer Arthur Max talk about the concept of the ship. Stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron also take turns gushing about how realistic it was to be on set.

Prometheus finally takes off June 8.

Man, I’m getting good at this whole prediction thing. We were just talking about E3 and what we should expect. One of the major topics was if we should be expecting a Castlevania 3DS game. Well, in a leaked copy of next month’s Nintendo Power, it’s been revealed that we can expect just that.

Officially titled Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, the Mercury Storm developed game will have you taking over as Trevor Belmont using his version of the Combat Cross. It will be 2.5 D where the camera will go isometric at times, but will primarily play out as a side-scroller.

Not much has been revealed outside of some of the combat mechanics, which promise to be fairly deep for a 2D game. However, we can expect the standard strong attack/wide attack format with secondary weapons (such as the boomerang-like glaive and electric bomb) mapped to the A button. Light and Shadow Magic will also return, and players will use experience points to unlock new combos.

To say I’m excited for this is a bit of an understatement. Lords of Shadow was a criminally under-appreciated game, and while I was hoping for a sequel on consoles, this news will have to do….for now.

Check out the Nintendo Power cover below, and let us know your thoughts.

Now, for a shameless plug: Stay tuned to the site next week as we will provide detailed coverage of each press conference, as well as the Expo’s many news stories.
