WHTGB 59-The Last Recruit and The Candidate

In episode 59 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we take a look back at LOST season 6 episode 13, "The Last Recruit" and season 6 episode 14, "The Candidate." In "The Last Recruit" we see Jack and Claire together for the first time since they found out they have a familial connection, many of Locke's followers are killed by mortar fire from Widmore's group, and we FINALLY get the long overdue reunion between Jin and Sun. In the flash sideways we see connections between Sayid, Sawyer, Miles and Kate while also seeing connections between Jack, Desmond, Claire, Locke, and Bernard.

In "The Candidate" we finally get to see the true character of Locke coming out. We also see the deaths of three characters that are original cast members, but Locke is not satisfied. WHTGB 58-Happily Ever After and Everybody Loves Hugo

In episode 58 we take a look at LOST season 6 episode 11, “Happily Ever After” and season 6 episode 12, “Everybody Loves Hugo.” For those of us who can't get enough Desmond and Penny (or Charlie), "Happily Ever After" gives us all the stuff we love. Desmond's life in the flash sideways is dramatically different from the life we've seen until Charlie takes control and helps wake Desmond up. Along the way Desmond encounters Charles Widmore, Eloise Hawking, and Daniel Faraday. On island, Desmond is subjected to an electromagnetic experiment by Charles Widmore.

In "Everybody Loves Hugo," Hurley takes the lead after Ilana's death. He leads the beach team to the Black Rock and then to an encounter with the Man in Black. In the flash sideways, Hurley is a wealthy business owner and philanthropist, known the world over for his generosity. When a blind date fails to show up, he has a chance encounter with Libby. In episode 57 we take a look at LOST season 6 episode 9, "Ab Aeterno" and season 6 episode 10, "The Package." In "Ab Aeterno" we finally discover the mysterious back story of Richard Alpert. Through flashback we see how he got to be on the Black Rock, how he was manipulated by Man in Black and Jacob, and why he doesn't age.

In "The Package" we learn more of Jin and Sun's flash sideways story the reveals how Jin wound up in the refrigerator at the restaurant. On the island, Sun loses her ability to speak English and finds it difficult to communicate with the rest of her group. Locke encounters Charles Widmore and declares that a war is coming. WHTGB 56-Dr. Linus and Recon

In episode 56 we journey back to episodes 7 and 8 of LOST season 6, "Dr. Linus" and "Recon." In the Ben Linus centric episode, "Dr. Linus," we see Ben in a new light. He's a high school history teacher and he's a mentor to a promising young student, Alex Rousseau. On the island, Ben deals with the remorse of his actions and inactions that have led to the deaths of many people including Alex and Jacob.

In "Recon," Sawyer is sent on a recon mission to Hydra island by the man in black. He meets Zoe and Charles Widmore. In the flash sideways, we see Sawyer as a police detective partnered with Miles Straume. Sawyer is still looking for Anthony Cooper and intends to kill him when he finds him. In our conversation about "Lighthouse" we discuss our first impressions when it is revealed that Jack has a son named David and his flash sideways story mirrors his on-island comments to Hurley about being a bad father. We discuss Jacob's messages to Hurley and how this episode will be a turning point for Jack. We also talk about the new information we learned about the temple people and very interesting scenes we had of Claire and her squirrel baby.

In our discussion of "Sundown" we talk about the great themes involving Sayid and his desire to prove that he is not the bad man that people think he is. We talk about the great fight scenes of Sayid vs. Dogan and Sayid vs. Keamy. In episode 54 we dig deeper into the final season of LOST by taking a look back at season 6 episode 3 & 4, "What Kate Does" and "The Substitute."

As we discuss "What Kate Does" we point out some of the ways that the writers and producers tied in characters from the previous stories into the flash sideways world. We also discuss similarities in how Kate found herself once again with Claire as Claire goes into labor. We share our favorite moments from the flash sideways stories as well as the on-island story that is following team Jack. We discuss the strange developments surrounding Sayid, and the mystery of Dogan. We also talk about Sawyer's decision to leave the temple, and his brokenness as he continues to mourn the loss of Juliet.

In our discussion about "The Substitute" we cover the flash sideways story of John Locke. We talk about the differences and similarities of this world and the previous stories and we take a few minutes to take some verbal punches and Locke's boss, Randy. We also discuss the on-island story of Man in Black and he begins to try and recruit those on the island to his side. In episode 53 we enter into the home stretch of our LOST rewatch podcast and begin LOST season 6 with the two-part season premiere, "LA X" Part 1 and "LA X" Part 2.

In our discuss of "LA X" we share some of the memories we had when we watched the episode for the first time and tried to figure out what was going on in the flash sideways stories. We discuss many of the plain and subtle differences in our characters in the flash sideways vs. the original story, and talk about how the story is different to us now that we know the ending.

In our discussion about the on island happenings, we talk about finally getting to see the temple and how we feel about the information that we were given and the new characters that were introduced. We also talk about Sayid and how he has been changed by the temple waters, what Jacob knew would happen and what is plan was with the Oceanic candidates.

In episode 52 we come to the end of LOST season 5 with our look back at "The Incident" part 1 and part 2. We see Jacob visit Kate, Sawyer, Sayid, Ilana, Jack, and Hurley off the island, and we also learn more about Juliet via flashback. We also see Jacob on screen for the first time and are introduced to the mysterious "man in black."

We discuss all of the flashbacks as well as the various twists and turns taken as Jack continues his drive to detonate the hydrogen bomb and reset the timeline. We also talk about the relationship dynamics between Jack and Sawyer, Jack and Kate, Kate and Sawyer, and Sawyer and Juliet.

Of course, we also discuss all of the great storyline surrounding Locke, Ben, Richard, and Jacob. We wonder what might have happened if Ilana would have arrived at the foot of the statue sooner, how Ben fell right into the same manipulations he's used on many others, and what we thought about this episode when it first aired. WHTGB 51-Follow the Leader

In episode 51 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we take a look back at LOST season 5 episode 15, "Follow the Leader." In "Follow the Leader" we see Jack pursue what he believes to be his destiny to locate the hydrogen bomb and use it to blow up the Swan Station construction site. However, we also see the breaking point in his relationship with Kate and she leaves him. Meanwhile, Sawyer and Juliet are beaten and then put on the submarine and Miles, Hurley, and Jin prepare to head back to the beach.

In 2007, we see a different perspective of the moment when Richard takes a bullet out of John's leg and tells him that he will have to die. WHTGB 48-Namaste and He’s Our You

In episode 48 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we take a look back at LOST season 5 episodes 9 & 10, "Namaste" and "He's Our You." In "Namaste" we see Sawyer, Juliet, and Jin work to help Jack, Hurley, and Kate blend in to the DHARMA Initiative, while trying to keep Sayid safe. Sayid, however, does not have any interest in joining up with the DHARMA Initiative. Radzinski thinks that Sayid has seen too much, and pushes to have him killed. Meanwhile, in 2007 Sun and Lapidus meet up with Christian Shepard and he tells them that Jin and the others are in 1977.

In "He's Our You," we see the events that led to Sayid getting on Ajira flight 316, and how he struggles with the reality that he is good at killing things. They take Sayid to the DHARMA torturer and he tells them the truth, but it's too outrageous for them to actually believe. As Locke leaves the island he is taken to a Tunisian hospital and met by Charles Widmore. Widmore gives Locke the resources he needs to round up the Oceanic 6 and return them all to the island, but Locke fails. Ben Linus saves Locke from a moment of despair, but finishes Locke off once Locke gives him the info he needs. We talk about all of the developments with the characters and some of the interesting death scenes in our discussion of, "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham."

In our discussion of "LaFleur" we talk about the all the events that happened on the island after Locke left. Off the island, Desmond approaches Charles Widmore to get the location of Daniel's mother.

In "The Little Prince" the Oceanic 6 continue to fall into Ben's plan to get them back to the island. It is revealed that Ben's lawyer is the one trying to get Kate on the run and bust Hurley out of jail. However, Sun still has plans to kill Ben. WHTGB 41-The Shape of Things to Come and Something Nice Back Home

In episode 41 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we take a look back at lost season 4 episode 9, "The Shape of Things to Come" and episode 10, "Something Nice Back Home."

In "The Shape of Things to Come" we see a flashforward of Ben Linus off the island in Tunisia, in Iraq helping Sayid take vengeance on the man responsible for Nadia's death, and then sneaking in to Charles Widmore's apartment to threaten the life of Penny. On the island, the mercenaries attach the DHARMA cabins where Ben Linus is hiding. When Ben refuses to surrender to them, Alex is killed.

In "Something Nice Back Home" we see a flashforward of Jack and Kate living together and getting engaged. Jack is also told by Hurley that he is not supposed to raise him. On the island, Jack has to undergo emergency surgery to remove is appendix, and Claire mysteriously leaves during the night with her dad. Read More...

WHTGB 40-Ji Yeon and Meet Kevin Johnson

In episode 40 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we continue season 4 of our LOST rewatch with episode 4×07, “Ji Yeon” and episode 4×08, “Meet Kevin Johnson.”

In “Ji Yeon” we get thrown for a loop as we see a flashforward of the birth of Sun and Jin's baby, Ji Yeon, and Jin trying to get to the hospital for the birth of a baby...that turns out to be a flashback. In present time, Sayid and Desmond learn from the freighter captain that Charles Widmore owns the freighter and that Widmore staged the found wreckage of Oceanic flight 815.

In “Meet Kevin Johnson” we learn what happened to Michael and Walt after they left the island. Michael tries to kill himself more than once, but Tom shows up and informs him that the island won't let him die yet. Tom sends Michael on a mission with a chance of redemption as he has the opportunity to board the freighter and prevent the crew on board from killing all the survivors of Oceanic flight 815.

In “The Constant” we see Desmond experience side effects of traveling from the island as his consciousness travels back and forth between 2004 and 1996. During the flashes he must try to find something that exists in both places and he tries to communicate with Penny.

In “The Other Woman” we learn more about Juliet's experience after she arrived on the island. We see a connection between Juliet and Goodwin that we didn't expect and we learn that Ben has a stronger infatuation on Juliet than we realized. In episode 38 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we continue season 4 of our LOST rewatch with episode 4×03, “The Economist” and episode 4×04, “Eggtown.”

In “The Economist" we learn that Sayid is one of the Oceanic 6 and is working as a hitman. Sayid goes to Germany to find someone on his hit list, and falls in love with a woman who is connected to his target. It is revealed that Sayid is working for Ben. On the island, Sayid works a deal with Locke to trade Miles for Charlotte and then leaves the island with Lapidus, Desmond, and the body of Naomi.

In “Eggtown" we see Kate's life after she returns as one of the Oceanic 6. We see her face trial for the crimes she committed before the plane crash and her mother reach out to her in an attempt to meet Kate's child, her grandson. It is also revealed that Kate's "son" is Aaron. On the island Kate uses Sawyer to gain access to Miles so he will tell her what he knows about her. WHTGB 37-The Beginning of the End and Confirmed Dead

In episode 37 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we are starting season 4 of our LOST rewatch with episode 4x01, "The Beginning of the End" and episode 4x02, "Confirmed Dead." The season picks up right were season 3 left of as the survivors of Oceanic 815 have made contact with a freighter that is 80 miles off shore of the island and they believe rescue is imminent.

In "The Beginning of the End" part of the survivors side with Locke and believe that the safest place for them to be is at the barracks. Other survivors side with Jack and head to the beach for rescue. In flashforward we see Hurley experience a mental breakdown after he sees Charlie. Charlie appears to Hurley again and tells him that "they" need him.

In "Confirmed Dead" we meet Frank, Miles, Daniel, and Charlotte, and learn a bit about them through a series of flashbacks. On the island, Jack and Kate work with Miles, Daniel, and Frank to arrange transport off the island, while Locke and his group head to the barracks. Locke's group finds Charlotte, and Ben tries to kill her. Ben knows all about her and her friends because he has a man on their boat. Read More...

In episode 34 of We Have To Go Back Podcast we take a look back at LOST season 3 episode 19, "The Brig" and season 3 episode 20, "The Man Behind the Curtain." In the Locke centric "The Brig" we see the events that transpired after Locke left the Dharma barracks with Ben Linus and The Others. When Locke is unable to kill his father, Anthony Cooper, we see Richard Alpert step in and give Locke information that will lead him to seek out the assistance of Sawyer. In a dramatic scene, Sawyer finally comes face to face with the man responsible for the death of his parents.

In "The Man Behind the Curtain" we see Locke return to the camp of The Others with his dead father and demand to be taken to see Jacob. However, when Ben and Locke show up to Jacob's cabin, only Locke hears a message from Jacob. In the Desmond centric episode, "Catch-22" we see Desmond's short time as a monk and the moment that he met Penny. On the island Desmond sees a flash that he believes shows him that Penny will soon be landing on the island, but he will have to let Charlie die in the process. Charlie, Desmond, Hurley, and Jin find the parachutist in the jungle, but the identity of the parachutist is not what Desmond expected.

In "D.O.C." we learn more about Jin's mother and father and the events that caused Sun's father to take Jin from a floor manager to his personal enforcer. On the island, Sun confronts Juliet to learn what happens to pregnant women on the island. Juliet offers to help Sun find out how long she has been pregnant so that Sun will know if she is in mortal danger and also determine who the father of her baby is.
