There were some amazing highlights from the UFC 143 main event between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit. You had it all from both fighters, the technical striking from Condit and the unforgettable trash talking by Diaz. Condit even mentioned Diaz saying, “So we’re throwing spinning shit now…” when he threw a spinning back fist during the fight. Now, that’s classic Diaz.

UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit Fight Photos from James Law

It was all about decisions during the main card at UFC 143, but there were a good amount of finishes as well throughout the card. From the submissions from Dustin Poirier and Ed Herman to the KO/TKO finishes from Stephen Thompson and Matt Brown, it was a good showing all around. Plus, the the Diaz/Condit and Nelson/Werdum fights weren’t boring either.

Dustin Poirier looked good at UFC 143. Slick on the ground, and just all around. He was just too much of a match for Max Halloway who just looked out of his league when the fight went to the ground. Once he got Max there, Poirier snapped on a sick mounted triangle armbar. It the arm break wouldn’t have tapped him, the nap would have.

Winning Knockout of the Knight at UFC 143, Stephen Thompson showed the world that karate is not dead. To be able to snap that leg over that quick was pretty sweet. He mentioned in the post-fight press conference that the 1-2 kick combination was dubbed the “Money Maker” when he was coming up the ranks. It definitely held true in his debut at the UFC to a tune of $65K.

Roy Nelson can take anything and keep on coming forward — he continues to prove it against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 143. It’s kind of a crazy thing to see. I really still feel he should continue to drop the weight since he’s looking slower and slower against these heavyweights, but I guess if you can stand and bang with the big boys — why stop?

I don’t know about you, but when you get two fighters in the cage who both look to finish the fight by submission, knockout or TKO — you’d hope to see awesome fight. That’s the feeling I get when I think of Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit for UFC 143. Both are known as finishers, and that’s why the fans love them. The key to this fight is to see which one will impose their will on the other — suffocating pressure from Diaz or the technical creativity from Condit. Only time will tell.

I don’t know about you, but I love this stuff. As a former pro wrestling fan, this is the kind of stuff that makes things interesting. I don’t think all the fighters have the same talent on the mic as Chael Sonnen, but you have got to admit — people want to watch him talk, whether you like him or not. He has personality. He has charisma. And more importantly, he has the skills to back it up. What more do you want?

Joe Rogan: Alright, I’m here with the winner, Chael Sonnen. First of all Chael, congratulations — a very tough fight. Michael Bisping showed he some great takedown defense. Did he surprise you at all in this fight?

Chael Sonnen: Joe Rogan, tonight is not for questions for me — this is your night brother! I want to know how you feel being inches away from greatness! I want you to tell everybody how it feels.

Are you not mesmerized? Do you not have chills going up your spine for the first time on Fox for you to be here?

5 Great Photos from UFC on Fox 2 Prelims

The prelim fights brought more excitement than the main card on UFC on Fox 2. This is where you witnessed Fight of the Night between Evan Dunham and Nick Lentz, Knockout of the Night by Lavar Johnson, and Submission of the Night by Charles Oliveira. Also, I didn’t even mention the mouthpiece knockout from Cub Swanson, which I felt should have won KOTN.

If they only had time to show one of these during the main card, it would have made it a ton better for the new fans watching it on Fox.

Rashad Evans looked like a guy who didn’t want to be in there with Phil Davis. Not because he felt he was going to be beat him, but because he didn’t think the Penn State National Champion was on his level. Throughout the fight, he was able to control it where ever the fight went. On top of that, he was able to display a dynamic wrestling game fit for MMA. With this win, we finally get to see him fight for the title against Jon Jones.

5 Great Photos from Sonnen vs. Bisping (UFC on Fox 2)

In a controversial end to a fought well fight, Chael Sonnen takes the victory in a split decision against Michael Bisping. Sonnen claims he was rocked in the first round against Bisping, and never really recovered. With that said, he was able to pull it out winning the first and third round according to two judges.

Bisping came out of the first with a moral win where many doubted him. He was able to bring it against the best, and many folks thought he won the fight, but the ones you need to convince are the judges. That’s why Sonnen is heading to Brazil this summer to rematch his nemesis Anderson Silva.

Charles Oliveira has been known widely for his superior Muay Thai stand up, but after this match people know that he can very much hold his own on the ground. Moving down to the Featherweight Division, Charles looked right where he should be. He was able to snap on a unique submission cranking both on his opponents thigh and calf while hyper extending the knee. Not a good place to be.

So let’s just understand this first. Joey Beltran is literally a walking zombie who always comes forward despite whatever comes at him, but unfortunately for him Lavar Johnson came at him with some of the most fierce uppercuts that won Lavar Knockout of the Night. These punches were so powerful they were holding Beltran up after he was already out cold.

UFC on FOX 2 Weigh-in Photos

This is the official beginning of UFC on Fox and I can’t wait to see what happens. For some reason, it feels like a ton of more airplay is going to Chael Sonnen vs. Michael Bisping. The trash talking between these two have been amazing, I only wished it was longer than just a couple of weeks. With that said, both Rashad Evans and Phil Davis have already upped their game to pre-fight hype to shine the spot light back on them. It’s going to be a night of great fights.

5 Great MMA Photos at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale from Esther Lin

The highlight of the night were the two finals fight for The Ultimate Fighter 14. Both Diego Brandao and John Dodson made a statement that night that this year of TUF fighters are going to ones to watch for the future of the Bantamweight and Featherweight Divisions. Also, Michael Bisping absolutely overwhelmed Jason Miller last night. He may have gassed, but being hit in the head or kneed to the body doesn’t help.

I really do wonder who they’ll be throwing at Bisping next for UFC on Fox 2.

Yes, he did miss weight by .25 pounds. You can see the video here on Heavy MMA. I do hate it when fighters miss weight. I won’t lie, I don’t know what it takes to make weight, but if it’s part of your job — do it.

With that said, I hope Mayhem Miller wins now.

reading some of your answers to questions you said jones would put hendo on his back? i think hendo has a pretty good greco roman game. problem with rampage was he didn't capitalize in all the chances he had to catch jones.

I agree Hendo has a great Greco-Roman game — the dude was a two-time Olympian. He definitely has a chance to beat Jon Jones — anyone does. Although, the likelihood he’ll be brought on his back against Jones is quite high and from his past performance — that wouldn’t be a good position to be in.
