Even though it has been three years since my vertical gastractomy weight loss surgery I still do not eat narrowly what I use to. Yes I am eating more than a couple of bites. I had the pleasure of helping a relative on her first Thanksgiving since having bariatric weight loss surgery (RNY). I watched her eat and stir her food like all of us have done that have had weight loss surgery. I keep a vigil eye on her and after a few to many bites I could see she was not able to figure out away to get away from the table. I made up an excuse to get her and I away from the Thanksgiving feast. She thanked me and we talked about not being afraid to get up away from the table and if she wanted to return after digesting a little.

Even after three years I excuse myself from the table all the time. I have to just walkaway from food. If I don’t I will eat myself sick and that is not a pretty site. My recommendation to anyone that has just had weight loss surgery and this is your first holiday season is to Just Say NO!

Don’t be afraid to get up and get away from the situation. Otherwise it will be more embarrsing to have a problem right at the table. With this in mind

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays which ever makes you more comfortable.

Last nights Chicken stir fry was great. We need to find stir fry veggies without noodles in them. Noodles and then brown rice is no many carbs. Not that there was a lot of noodles in the mixture but still just a little to much. It was so good as a matter of fact we are having leftovers for dinner instead of Grilled Lean Steak. We will save that for this weekend.

Since moving my weight loss entries from Fam5 blog to this blog I have had people email me asking me about weight loss surgery and what type of bariatric surgery I had. I always point them to the post Before Weight Loss Surgery Data and also Before and After Weight Loss Surgery. These two along with the post that started all this called Heart Attack or Not?

Now let’s take a look at today’s menu.

Last nights Chicken Cacciatore was very good. Next time we will make the sauce a little thicker other than that it was very tasty and filled you up quick. I did notice it stayed with you longer than the other dinners which is a good thing. I sure love the Cottage Cheese Fruit goop man it taste sinful but it not.

I took a sneak peek at my weight this morning and I am down almost 5 pounds. This is not an uncommon event for me after having weight loss surgery. My weight loss can very 3-5 pounds a week without dieting. The real test will be the one week mark and then the second week mark. If I can lose 2-4 pounds a week and keep it off then this will be a successful weight loss program for bariatric surgery patience.

Let’s take a look at today’s menu.

Yesterdays menu was surprising. I was worried about the Napoleons with tomatoes but they were pleasantly light and tasty. The Mustard Dill Chicken was also light tasting but not a ton of flavor. I guess I was expecting more from the chicken. The Cous Cous is Cous Cous either you like it or you don’t. The sugar free, fat free chocolate pudding was the best part of the day for me.

The last three years I have watched my sugars due to the weight loss surgery. Now I am trying to watch not only sugars but calories. Of course all the time watching the portions. I find with any weight loss diet you really need to watch the portions. It does no good to watch the calories, fat or sugars if you eat 4 plates of food every meal. Not that I a person that had bariatric surgery would be able to do this but goes for anyone that is trying to lose weight.

Let’s take a look at today’s menu.

Week 1 – Tuesday Menu

Breakfast:
Scrambled Eggs
Topped with Fat Free Cheese
Salsa
1/2 a piece of Fruit
1 cup hot coffee mixed with 1 cup warmed fat free milk (for me later in the morning)

Lunch:
Mustard Dill Chicken & Cous Cous (leftover from night before)
Salad with Fat Free dressing (forgot to bring with me)

Dinner:
Grilled Pork Loin
Brushed Teriyaki Sauce
Baked Potato topped with Fat Free Sour Cream and Fat Free Cheese (opt)
Steamed broccoli with fat free cheese sauce

Snack:
Cottage Cheese goop with Fruit

It has been three years since having vertical gastrectomy weight loss surgery. I feel it is now time to follow a more strict eating plan. You can call it a diet if you like since I would like to lose 10 to 20 pounds. The more important part of the eating plan will be to eat right. This eating plan will be based on the Weight Watchers Core Plan. I will be keeping track of what I eat through this blog.

I will try to get each days food menu listed so that you can follow it if you choose. At some point I may list the week’s menu at the start of the week or the end of a week. Here we go.

I notice going on the three years since having weight loss surgery that I like coffee drinks. However I do not want to have all the sugars associated with the big coffee retailers. I found that if you have coffee and add sugar-free chocolate or sugar-free vanilla the only sugars you wind up with are from the dairy. Here is the key to keeping it low in sugars. Most coffee houses and baristas will use 1% or fat free milk. I highly recommend using breve (half-n-half) instead as it has a lot less sugars.

Try it sometime you might just enjoy the test.

Try making it at home to help save $3 to $5 a pop. Found this how-to video (click image) trick you might find interesting. It talks about using coffee ice cubes to help keep you iced coffee from getting watered down. Nice tip here!
