]]>I’m kind of a closeted techno fan. Not “techno”, but like, minimal techno and its surrounding sub-genres. I was introduced to the sound at Mutek in Montreal several years ago, and fell in love with a certain side of the umbrella genre. There’s the hypnotic “oonce oonce oonce”, but there’s also a level of experimentalism and sound design artistry that generally escapes other dance music genres. This particular tune by Stimming ranks among my top 10 techno tunes ever, with its deep rhythm, clean sounds, epic breakdowns and buildups, subtlety vs. intensity, and masterful engineering. Give a listen, and if you like this kind of thing, check out some of my other favorite techno producers and djs: Akufen, Magda, Click Box, Alex Under, Farben, Luomo, Matthew Dear. ]]>WOW, is about as compact and fantastical of an explanation as I can give you for what I bumped into earlier today. It might look digital, but its 100% stop motion comprised of more than 4000 individual shots. I have no idea how you even begin a process like this, and most definitely too much work for my ass… Nobody Beats the Drum is fully equipped with a clean site, unbelievable video and fancy beats that ooze bassy anthems. Im really under educated on their history right now so can’t really say much more than, ENJOY!!

]]>Celeste and I made it to the Drawn Here (& There) lecture last night at The Walker Arts Center to catch a presentation from superduo Non-Format.
We found out that one of the two partners, Jon Forss, had moved to St Paul from their London HQ, just a year before we moved to MPLS. The motivational impact the Non Format mystique generated was enough to keep anyone inspired, but to find out they had an office in proximity to your own was pretty great. Aside from that and some familiarity with their work, we didn’t really know a ton about them or their operating procedure. Needless to say, we both thought it was a great lecture and helped solidify some of the ulterior motives we’ve both been scheming on lately.
We also bumped into a slew of our internet homies in the flesh. Always great to meet up and slap fives. Joy.
