An information graphic in its simplest form is a visual interpretation of data. Though an incredibly useful form of data presentation, infographics have traditionally been an underwhelming sector of the design world.

That being said, there are some brilliant designers out there who have turned this typically dull form of data visualization into beautiful and creative works of art.

In appreciation of those designers who find beauty in data, I’ve collected 40 beautiful infographic designs that inspire me. Hopefully they will inspire you, too!

I would imagine that nobody hates the expression don’t judge a book by its cover more than an actual book cover designer. Obviously, the metaphor isn’t really about books – but still, that’s gotta sting a little.

Let’s face it, if people didn’t actually “judge books by their covers”, there would be a lot of graphic designers out of a job. The need for company branding, attractive packaging or promotional material of any kind would be non-existent; thus leaving the lowly graphic designer nothing short of obsolete.

25 Imaginative Illustrations Inspired By Film

For the most part, being both a film geek and design geek are two completely separate interests of mine that rarely coexist. Occasionally I’ll be enticed by a great poster design, or appreciate the font choice in a title sequence – but usually the two worlds never collide.

However, lately I’ve noticed a trend of artists and designers paying homage to their favorite films in their own creative way. Whether it be the re-imagining of a film’s poster or the designing of a cover for a film’s novelization; I simply can’t get enough of this stuff.

It is in admiration of this movement that I’ve hand picked my favorite 25 Imaginative Illustrations Inspired By Film. Hope you like them.

40 Gorgeous Vintage Tobacco Advertisements

Tobacco advertising has got to be one of the most morally questionable industries out there.

It seems these advertisers would stop at nothing to exploit every possible resource – all in name of peddle their wares. A few victims of tobacco advertisements include celebrities, doctors, children, the military, Christmas, nostalgia, cartoon characters, and of course everyone’s favorite – sex. I suppose all in all not much has changed.

But in all their morally questionable motives these advertisers did manage to create some beautiful works of art. This is why I’ve assembled my favorite 40 vintage tobacco advertisements for your enjoyment.

It should go without saying that these are for inspirational purposes only. We here at WellMedicated do not condone the messages of any of these ads – we merely think they’re purrrdy.

Wall Medicated

Today I’m proud to release the official WellMedicated Wallpaper for your iPhone or Desktop!

Truth be told, this is something I was hoping to couple with the launch of the redesign, but yet again my disorganization has gotten the better of me. So here’s hoping this is a case of ‘better late than never’.

The wallpaper design is fairly minimalist and simple. No pesky credits, web addresses or words in general for that matter to clutter it up. I hate it when that happens and I’m sure you do to.

Ever since I happened upon the sr. mexicant vintage ads blog I’ve been meaning to put together a gallery of vintage Mexican advertisements. The thing is, this blog appears to be the sole definitive source on the subject.

Saul Bass: Jack Of All Trades

In this the first -- of hopefully many -- artist showcases I’m going to delve into the works of one of my heroes: Saul Bass.

What I admire about Saul Bass is not only his amazing talent, but the variety of mediums in which he exercises his talent. The man was a masterful graphic designer creating some of the most original and iconic film posters and company logos out there. He went on to revolutionize the film title sequence and even directed serveral short films! Is there nothing the guy couldn’t do?

In this showcase I’ll share some of my favorite film posters, logos, graphic design and credit sequences by the master; Saul Bass.

As some of you may have gathered, I’m a total nerd for well designed film posters. In my opinion, Saul Bass’ posters are some of the most original and creative posters ever made. His unique style works beautifully with the medium and continues to be emulated to this day.

Logo Design

A New Design and A New Direction

I have reason to believe that a significant chunk of the WellMedicated readership are jonesing inspiration junkies foaming at the mouth for their next fix. Ditto. It is for this reason that I’ve decided to shift the focus of this blog to be entirely inspiration only. Let’s face it, it’s pretty-much been that way for a while now anyway.

With this decision also comes a pretty kickass redesign to get the party started. Stay tuned for some awesome new features like interviews, artist showcases and more!

About the Redesign

Though I loved the old layout, it was not without its problems. This redesign gives a little more breathing room while adding new features like a very purrrdy logo, gravitar support, community links (submit yours), better subscriptions options, paginated navigation… I could go on and on.

This redesign been a long time coming but I am very, very proud of the final result. Thanks to everyone who has stayed subscribed during the “hiatus” and be sure to stay tuned for more awesomeness in the very near future!

The Inspiration Drought Of 2008

You may have noticed a bit of a famine in the ol’ updates department here at the blog. I know I have, and it’s killing me.

Truth is, this year was my first holiday season as a full time freelancer and it seems I have a thing or two to learn in the area of time management. As a result, this blog has taken the hit and been left to fend for itself. I assure you this is only a temporary set back and we’ll be back in full swing in 2009!

40 Beautiful Web Design Portfolios

It’s funny that a web designer’s portfolio – arguably their most valuable marketing tool – is usually neglected and horribly out of date. I know mine is.

I’ve been really itching to overhaul my portfolio website for months now. Though I don’t mind the current layout, it was always meant to be temporary. As is usually the case, it’s just a matter of having the time to do it right.

To get the ball rolling I’ve collected 40 beautiful web design portfolios that for one reason or another blew me away. Some are for larger companies while others are for individual freelancers like myself. Hopefully this will inspire those of us neglecting our portfolios to get off our butts and start designing.
