I went early, shopped briefly and successfully found what I set out to buy, so I'm riding that early wave of holiday euphoria. But I know that will soon be tempered by all that remains to be done and the setbacks that can arise on the way to happy and relaxing holidays.

In fact, it's possible that you've been sitting down since 8 a.m. this morning and haven't even gotten up to use the ladies' room. It may be time to stand up—it could save your life.

Chemical Free Power Drink: Lemon Water

Why not try adding lemon to it? It will not only boost the taste, but the health benefits as well. A common recommendation in Traditional Chinese Medicine is to begin each day with a glass of water with fresh-squeezed lemon (extra bonus if it's luke warm or room temperature). Lemon water is alkalizing for the body, ridding it of acidity that can have harmful affects on digestion, liver function and skin health.

You talk with your sister—she is also grumpy. Your coworkers? You guessed it, grumpy. The whole neighborhood appears to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.

Ever notice those days where it seems everyone's feeling a little blah? Or maybe it's just the opposite—strangers are smiling at you appearing similarly happy and refreshed; the communal good cheer is palpable. Is it something in the air?
The Healing Power of Forgiveness

It goes much deeper than that; it is more of a letting go. Radio host Bernard C. Meltzer once said, “When you forgive, you in no way change the past—but you sure do change the future.” How can you change your future by forgiving the past?

In addition to boosting your metabolism, foods that are low in refined sugars and high in fiber can fight off hunger so you don't overeat at lunch, according to a study published in The Journal of Nutrition.
A coworker of mine was recently telling me of her mosquito woes—she can't seem to leave the house without getting attacked. I can commiserate; after a weekend picnic, I'm itching my feet with one hand and typing with the other. But if you've been following this blog, you probably know that I'm a bit apprehensive about using traditional (chemical-laden) bug spray. Yes, DEET is super effective at keeping the bugs at bay, but it also been found to be very toxic to humans as well. So I've decided to do a little research about natural bug repellents.
