ATHENS - Lewisburg dominated all aspects of the game as they out played Athens both offensively and defensively during the opening round of the 2011 District 4 AA tournament. The Green Dragons had success both throwing and running the football. Camden Cassells, quarterback of the Green Dragons, went 4-8 passing for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Lewisburg ran for 346 yards on the ground against the struggling Athens' defense. Jared Liano led the rushing attack for the Green Dragons as he carried the ball 12 times for 77 yards and a touchdown. The Green Dragons would win the game, 35-7.

SAYRE - The Redskins played host to their cross-town rivals, the Wildcats of Athens, in Friday night's Rusty Rail game. The result followed the trend of the previous ten games as Athens has won their 11th straight Rusty Rail game starting back in 2001. The Redskins have set their own trend. From 2001-2008, the Wildcats had blown Sayre out of the water, but the past three years, including last night's matchup, have all been close games.

The Towanda Black Knights snared the Bronze Helmet for the tenth straight season over the Wyalusing Rams Friday night by cruising to a 41-6 victory. For Towanda Coach Craig Dawsey he was pleased with his team's effort but he was outspoken when it came to the mistakes on the field, "we were able to win today, but the mistakes - the fumbles, the turnovers, the penalties - those are going to hurt you next week when good teams come to play. It's been a cyclical run for us against them (Wyalusing.) Before they got us a number of years now it's been our turn."

TROY - The Trojans scored early and often, and never looked back on their way to a 53-7 trouncing of the visiting Cowanesque Indians last night. The first three times Troy touched the ball resulted in scores, building leads of 21-0 by the end of the first quarter and 44-0 by half time. As efficient as the offense was, the Trojan defense was just as stout, holding Cowanesque to 19 total yards in the first half. The Indians started the game with a quick three and out. Punting from their own 21, Troy's Jed Wright would field it and race down the left side line behind a wall of blockers 45 yards for the score. A holding penalty brought the play back, but no matter, as Wright would take the option pitch on the next play and race 41 yards down the right side line for the score. Josh McClaren added the extra point, and at 9:30, Troy led 7-0.

TOWANDA - Friday night's Towanda Homecoming football game will not be remembered as one of the classics in the ancient rivalry between the Black Knights and the Athens Wildcats. Towanda was a heavy favorite, and they showed that stature was deserved by scoring two touchdowns in the first two minutes.
