THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS Will Air Jeanne Cooper Tribute On Tuesday, May 28 (Video Preview)

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS will air a special tribute episode to the late Jeanne Cooper on Tuesday, May 28, (12:30-1:30 p.m. ET; 11:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon PT) on CBS. Cast members, friends and family of the beloved actress will gather on set next week to shoot a celebration of the life of their late friend who passed away this week at the age of 84. Cooper, the Emmy Award-winning actress who portrayed Katherine Chancellor for more than 39 years, is the show’s longest-running cast member.

As part of the tribute episode, the cast of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS will share their favorite memories of working with Cooper, along with personal recollections of their friendships with her. Additionally, interviews with Cooper from the show’s recent 40th anniversary and classic clips of her years on the daytime drama will be included.

“Jeanne Cooper was a legend and we want to give her the tribute she deserves,” said Angelica McDaniel, Senior Vice President, Daytime CBS. “The cast will honor their longtime friend, family member and co-worker in the greatest way possible, as we celebrate her life and vibrant spirit and share it with the audience who loved her as much as we did.”

"We're going to have the actors closest to Jeanne — probably 25 in all — sit in the Chancellor mansion set and tell stories and reminisce about her life, as themselves," said executive producer Jill Farren Phelps in an interview with TV Guide Magazine. "We'll serve tea and let everyone talk and cry and laughs and share and we'll find the best photos and clips we can get our hands on and edit it all together into a beautiful celebration episode. This is all for Jeanne. And then later we will deal with the death of Kay Chancellor. We've already written the show into July, so it will take some time before we can address her departure on air. In the meantime, there will be references in the script that Katherine and her husband Murphy are off somewhere on a trip."

"We have not yet decided how Kay's life will actually end," Phelps said, "but we are talking a bit already about what she will leave in her wake. It will be something that will leave the memory of Kay Chancellor deeply imbedded in everyone in Genoa City. What happens to Chancellor Industries? What decisions did Kay make in the event of her death? The ramifications need to be big."

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, recently nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama, has been the #1-rated daytime drama for more than 24 years

Michelle Stafford Leaving THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS actress Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) is leaving the top-rated daytime soap, according to E! Online.

Stafford has won two Outstanding Lead Actress Emmys for playing the role and is nominated again this year. She first appeared in 1994, left in 1997, then came back in 2000.

If Stafford leaves Y&R, will you be sad to see Phyllis go?

Stafford Soap Opera Digest she'll miss the fans the most.

"I would like to personally confirm to the fans that yes, I have decided to leave THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. It has been a glorious 16 years and one of the greatest rides of my life. The constant support and love from the fans is not lost on me. I think I'll miss you the most."

The New TV Season, One Stereotype at a Time
Based on the trailers released by ABC, CBS, CW, Fox and NBC, here are a few characteristics of made-for-TV America.

To be the star of the show, it helps to be white. In 27 of the 35 shows, or 77 percent, it appears that the lead character or characters were white. Six shows have a mix of white and minority leads. That leaves 2 of 35 shows, or 6 percent, fronted by minority actors. If you’re Hispanic or black, you can be the star as long as the show involves violent crime. Talented minority actors are in demand to play white characters’ bosses, sidekicks and underlings. If you’re a woman and you’re the undisputed star of your show, you’re probably on ABC.

Best and Worst Decisions of 2013 Upfronts
The new fall schedule has been revealed. And the week of network sales presentations to advertisers is over. EW offers some of the best and worst of last week and what it means for this fall.

On Paul Wesley playing two roles: "Part of the fun of having an actor play two roles are those opportunities to put them face to face, but they're difficult to shoot and they take a lot of time and the stuff we do even with Katherine and Elena we do so sparingly. So we'll definitely see it, but of course Stefan will be on his own journey presumably at the bottom of the [lake] floor so we'll see when and who gets him out of that mess."

GAME OF THRONES Producer Discusses Series End
"[The number of series] is being discussed as we speak. The third season was the first half of book three, season four will be the second part of book three. . . George R.R. Martin has written books four and five; six and seven are pending," Doelger told Radio Times at the BAFTA Awards last weekend. "I would hope that, if we all survive and if the audience stays with us, we'll probably get through to seven seasons."

BATES MOTEL's Carlton Cuse on the Bloody Finale, Season 2 Plans
"Coming to terms with Miss Watson's death is a component of next season. It's not the main narrative focus of next season but it is one of the stories we're telling. ARROW's Second Season to Feature Two Villains

666 PARK AVENUE Returns June 22
The ill-fated spooker — which ABC pulled from the schedule after its Dec. 2, 2012 broadcast — will unspool its four remaining episodes on Saturdays at 9/8c, with the finale airing July 13.

Letoya Luckett, Damien Wayans and Lesley-Ann Brandt join SINGLE LADIES
They are set for major recurring/possible regular roles. Luckett will play Felicia Price, the icy and aloof founder and Senior Partner of Price Management, one of the most influential music management companies in the world. Wayans will play David Berenger, April’s (Charity Shea) main foil at Price Management — a masterful sycophant, and a slick manager on the Atlanta music scene. Brandt plays Naomi Cox, a demure, sexy, scheming gold-digger who is a constant thorn in Keisha’s (LisaRaye McCoy) side.

FX Canada no longer airing ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE
"Due to changes in production beyond our control, FX Canada will no longer be airing AMC and OLTL - iTunes is still an option for fans."

THE ARCHERS' outgoing editor Vanessa Whitburn says the show is "not competing with soaps"
She told the Radio Times that the long-running Radio 4 rural drama, which has faced complaints about "sexed-up" stories, had become less melodramatic during her reign.

"Before my time as editor Grace was burnt to death, Tom Forrest was in court for killing a poacher and there was a diamond smuggler in the village, so we're possibly less melodramatic than we were then."

1971: The first episode of UPSTAIRS DOWNSTARS was re-recorded in color after the original recording, which was in black and white, was lost.

1974: The very first Daytime Emmys took place at the Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. The show was hosted by Peter Marshall and winners included THE DOCTORS (Drama Series), Macdonald Carey and Elizabeth Hubbard.

1984: On GUIDING LIGHT, Nola (Lisa Brown) gave birth.

1986: On the sixth season finale of DYNASTY, Alexis took over the Carrington mansion, and Blake began to strangle her. Meanwhile, during Dominique's engagement party, Claudia accidentally set fire to La Mirage, leaving several lives in danger.

1992: THE REAL WORLD, from longtime soap producer Mary-Ellis Bunim, premiered on MTV. Mary-Ellis said, “What if you could do a soap opera with no actors and no writers?” Read the story of its origin here.

Rena Sofer Joins THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

Last week we reported that THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL had hired Emmy winner Darin Brooks to play the new role of heartthrob Wyatt Fuller. Now TV Guide Magazine has revealed that another Emmy winner, former GENERAL HOSPITAL star Rena Sofer, has been signed to play Wyatt's mother, Quinn Fuller.

TVGM says there are not a lot of details yet, except that Quinn is as mysterious as her son and both have secrets that will rock the soap.

Bruce Boxleitner Joins DEBBIE MACOMBER'S CEDAR COVE

Hallmark Channel announced on Monday that Bruce Boxleitner (BABYLON 5, SCARECROW AND MRS. KING) has been cast as a series regular in Hallmark Channel’s first-ever primetime series, DEBBIE MACOMBER'S CEDAR COVE. The two-hour drama is set to premiere Saturday, July 20 (8 p.m. ET/PT), with Boxleitner joining the cast regularly as Bob Beldon, owner of the local Cedar Cove Inn, Thyme and Tide.

The series is based on the bestselling book series Cedar Cove by #1 New York Times bestselling author, Debbie Macomber and stars Andie MacDowell along with Dylan Neal (THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL), Sarah Smyth, Paula Shaw and Brennan Elliott. As previously announced, Teryl Rothery has been cast as a series regular playing Grace, Judge Olivia Lockhart’s (MacDowell) best friend.

A native mid-westerner, Boxleitner received his formal acting training on stage and is an alumnus of Chicago’s prestigious Goodman Theatre. Boxleitner’s big break occurred when he was cast opposite James Arness in the pilot for the epic TV series HOW THE WEST WAS WON and he went on to star in the CBS series BRING 'EM BACK ALIVE.” In 1982, Boxleitner was cast as the title role in Disney’s cult film TRON which garnered him sci-fi fans worldwide. However, it was in Boxleitner’s four-year run for CBS’s SCARECROW AND MRS. KING, starring opposite Kate Jackson, which endeared him to fans everywhere and made him a household name. In 1994, Boxleitner joined the cast of the popular TV series BABYLON 5 as John Sheridan, President of the Interstellar Alliance.

Last year he played Burl Lourd in the short-lived ABC primetime soap opera GCB.

Boxleitner most recently starred with Jeff Bridges in TRON: Legacy, the popular motion picture sequel to TRON. In addition, Boxleitner reprised his role in TRON: UPRISING on Disney’s XD TV network, his first animated TV series. Boxleitner was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City in April 2012, honoring him for his illustrious career in western films and is a two-time recipient of the Wrangler Award. In 1999, Boxleitner authored Frontier Earth and in 2001, its sequel, Frontier Earth: Searcher, published by The Berkley Publishing Group.

This summer VH1 brings viewers HIT THE FLOOR (formerly BOUNCE) a new dramatic scripted series that asks the question: How much are you willing to sacrifice to make all your dreams come true? The series follows the alluring lives and loves of the Los Angeles Devil Girls, the premier dance team in all of professional basketball. The series will mark VH1's second foray into the hour-long scripted series genre.

HIT THE FLOOR explores the sexy world of professional basketball and the dancers who make the fans (and players) go wild. The Los Angeles Devils are the number one team in the league. When the arena lights go on all of Hollywood comes out to support the million dollar players. But in this city these men share the fame, adrenalin, money, sex and power with their dancers, the Devil Girls.

At the heart of HIT THE FLOOR is Ahsha (newcomer Taylour Paige), a sheltered young woman who joins the team against the wishes of her mother Sloane (actress Kimberly Elise from CLOSE TO HOME), who knows this treacherous, tempting world all too well having been a Devil Girl herself. Olivia (actress Charlotte Ross from DAYS OF OUR LIVES) is the shrewd squad manager, while Jelena (actress Logan Browning from MEET THE BROWNS) is the ruthless, star captain who won’t let anyone else share the spotlight and Pete Davenport (actor Dean Cain from LOIS AND CLARK) is the former All-Star who’s come back to coach his old team only to have to contend with the girls both stealing the spotlight and distracting his players. All the while, the mystery surrounding the disappearance of missing Devil Girls dancer Mia threatens to blow the roof off the entire L.A. Devils organization.

HIT THE FLOOR was created by James LaRosa, who also serves as Executive Producer of the series along with Maggie Malina and Bryan Johnson. VH1’s executives Jill Holmes and Jeff Olde are also executive producers. The pilot was written by James LaRosa and directed by Sanaa Hamri.

The show premieres on Monday, May 27th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Oh crap, I really should have written a speech. And earlier I won for writing so the irony is not lost on me that I didn't write anything. This is the second thing I've ever won in my life. This really means a lot because I think some people look at the character of Cheeks as a stereotype or caricature or something two-dimensional. What I really wanted to do with this script and this story was to show that even if you have stereotypes, even if you are feminine and have long eyelashes, or you love Madonna, or you sashay down the street, it doesn't mean that you're not a fully developed human being and you don't have depth or dimension. My femininity is actually what gives me strength. It is not a weakness. To Jane Espenson and Jeff Greenstein, who directed a performance that I never would have delivered on my own, and my co-stars Sean Hemeon and Alessandra Torresani, I would not have been able to deliver without them giving me that energy, thank you. And really thank you so much for this. This means a lot to me.

I started writing DeVanity because I didn't have the money to pay for therapy. I thought it would be a really nice way to just create something fun. I remember Friday nights growing up the world stopped for my grandmother when FALCON CREST was on. She would not let anything happen until that show was over. I didn't know who Angela Channing was other than she was a crazy old bitch who liked grapes. It was amazing because my grandmother grew up really poor in kind of that other world country, and it was really nice to see her escape for an hour. I always wanted to do something that I thought she would want to watch one day. My grandmother passed away while we were filming Season Two of DEVANITY. Wherever she is I hope she watches my show and isn't too offended by the swearing and all of the disgusting things we do. Thank you very much, this is is wonderful.

1996: John Beradino, best known to soap fans as Dr. Steve Hardy on GENERAL HOSPITAL, died at age 79. Before becoming the star of GENERAL HOSPITAL in 1963, Beradino played Major League Baseball.

1998: On THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, Nina (Tricia Cast) wanted answers from Ryan (Scott Reeves).

2000: At the 27th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, winners included GENERAL HOSPITAL (Drama Series, Directing), Anthony Geary, Susan Flannery, Shemar Moore, Sarah Brown, David Tom and Camryn Grimes.

2001: Former daytime soap opera writing Pat Falken-Smith died at age 75.
