Hey Wengerball.

Great analysis of Koscielny and very insightful points on the link between transfer fees and quality.

Unfortunately, the media, pundits and fans that follow their piss poor analysis like sheep actually believe that if you spend the money, then the player is top quality.

I rest my case with Fernando £50 million Torres vs Robin Van Persie who cost £2.75 million in transfer fees.

You make a good point…it IS stupid in hindsight that another keeper wasn’t brought in. But w/ a game at home against United, and a favorable schedule the rest of the way (especially considering MUFC/CFC/THF are still alive in other competitions) the Title race isn’t over. It’s a huge stuble, but to say its over is unfair. That’s probably the last thing any Arsenal player wants to hear. Good read, but I’m afraid that’s unfair.

I understand what you’re saying, and yours is a point well made – particularly hit home by the contenders’ squads. That said, I do definitely feel the whole Almunia / no. 1 situation has been handled badly by Wenger in recent times, particularly after the summer. I’m far from advocating we shuld bring someone in – I like what I’ve seen of Szceszny (sp?) – but still the way we conceded for WBA’s second was comical without being funny. Every team has bad luck, every player makes mistakes, but just off the top of my head I can think of three (Fab vs Porto, Fab vs Stoke, Al vs WBA). I struggle to remember more than one for Van der sar, Cech, Reina in the same period of time. I know that’s not very helpful in that it doesn’t suggest a solution at all, but sometimes the first step is just taking a long hard look at what the problem is. Anyway, nice blog.

Whilst I understand the points you are endeavouring to make, the title race is NOT out of our hands. Winning the game in hand reduces the gap to 2 points. Beating United at home then takes us a point clear of them. After that, we have the same number of games to play in the run-in. I’m not saying it WILL happen (it’s unlikely, at best) but mathematically it is still in fact under our control.

Brilliant! Though I must say I thought you’d flipped, and almost didn’t read through to the italicized disclaimer.

How can you support a team and hate the players? Its a team!

Here we are watching the emergence of perhaps the most important player to Arsenal since TH14, and people come up with this crap?

How come these “fans” or “supporters” act like jock straps? They give all credit to ManU and Chelsea, and none to Arsenal. Its a wonder they don’t rate Spurs a chance to win the title? Just ridiculous.

Sometimes I wonder if these people are actually Arsenal fans. It’s as if the can’t bring themselves to support the team although that’s their main purpose as “fans.”

It’s like as if other teams have no right to score against us, if they do it’s always because our defence is shit. No other title contender would allow the opposition to score —right?

The panorama programme did not help the bid, but to think that it buried the English bid is a bit naive.

The 2018, and 2022 bids were always about Blatter’s legacy, and England, Spain, Australia etc was never in the running from the get go.

It was always about breaking new ground, taking the World Cup to virgin markets.

It is sad as you say Pedro, but it’s demand driven.

Until the customers stop spending their money nothing will change. When people are willing to spend more on entertainment than they do on health care, then it stands to reason that entertainment professionals will earn more than healthcare workers.

Just because others are worse does not make it right. It is horrible that in such a world with so many facing pverty, illness, suffering, slavery and death due to lacking money, that these people can have so much and do SO LITTLE.
