Depeche Mode Cancel Istanbul Concert Over Border Dispute

Rockers Depeche Mode cancelled their concert in Istanbul, Turkey on Friday after their production trucks were blocked from crossing a border into the country.
The Personal Jesus hitmakers announced at the last minute that the show could not go ahead as their stage gear had been held up in neighbouring Bulgaria, where local truck drivers had blocked traffic at two major border checkpoints to protest against alleged Turkish restrictions to their operations.
A post on the band’s website reads, “The Bulgarian trucking blockade at the Bulgaria-Turkey border has prevented Depeche Mode’s production trucks from crossing the border into Turkey, forcing this situation.
“Depeche Mode… are currently working to reschedule tonight’s show to later a later date in the Depeche Mode tour. (The band) sincerely apologize to all of the fans and all ticket holders for this inconvenience.”

Pop superstar Beyonce has taken aim at gossips speculating she is pregnant again by posting a defensive note on her Instagram.com account.
The Crazy In Love hitmaker has refused to address ongoing reports she and husband Jay-Z are set to welcome a sibling for 16-month-old Blue Ivy, but she vented her frustration about the speculation on Friday.
Beyonce uploaded a scathing note to her Instagram page, stating, “I can’t stop the rumors from starting, and I can’t really change peoples minds who believe them, all I can do is sit back and laugh at these low life people who have nothing better to do than talk about me.”
The message has since been removed.
However, another social networking post by the star has done little to quell the baby rumors after she shared a picture showing her surrounded by happy kids on her popular Tumblr.com account.
Taken during her trip to Cuba with Jay-Z in April, the snapshot features a beaming Beyonce meeting schoolkids and comes with the hash tag “#mylife”. The musicians celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in Havana as part of a cultural trip to the Cuban capital.
Reports of Beyonce’s baby news were sparked earlier this week when she pulled the plug on a show in Belgium, citing dehydration and exhaustion – and rap mogul Russell Simmons appears to believe the hype about the baby.
He tweeted, “Congratulations Jay-Z & Beyonce,” but the singer’s pal and former bandmate Kelly Rowland insisted she didn’t know anything about the pregnancy rumors when she was cornered in Los Angeles on Friday. When asked to comment, she said, “What?”, and then refused to discuss the matter further, leaving reporters convinced that she knew more than she was letting on.

Christoph Waltz Speaks Out After Cannes Gun Drama

Oscar winner Christoph Waltz has assured fans he is “fine” after he was caught up in a gun scare at the Cannes Film Festival in France on Friday.
The Django Unchained star was on set for an outdoor TV interview with French show Le Grand Journal for the local Canal + channel when a man nearby allegedly fired a weapon and claimed to have a fake grenade.
Waltz was rushed offstage by security at the sound of gunfire, and has now spoken out about the drama to appease his fans’ concerns.
Speaking to Britain’s Daily Mail, Waltz says, “I was on a panel at the Studio Canal platform off the beach when a man produced a gun. I think it was a pistol and he fired but luckily for me, they were blanks. Then he shouted he had a grenade and again luckily for me, there was no grenade. The police have him. They tackled him to the ground. I don’t know who he was or where he came from or what his problem was.”
Editors at New York Post’s gossip column Page Six quote Waltz as adding, “I’m fine, there’s nothing to worry about.”
Police arrested the assailant, who has only been identified as a 42-year-old male.

Actor Nathan Lane saw off competition from stars including Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks and Jake Gyllenhaal to land the top honor at the New York Drama League Awards on Friday.
Bette Midler, Vanessa Williams, Edie Falco and Alan Cumming were also in the running for the Distinguished Performance prize, but it was Lane’s turn in Douglas Carter Beane’s burlesque drama The Nance which bagged him the prestigious accolade.
Cyndi Lauper added another award to her collection for Kinky Boots, which was named Distinguished Production of a Musical, while Distinguished Revival of a Musical went to Pippin.
Distinguished Play was bestowed upon Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? landed the Distinguished Revival of a Play honor.
Bernadette Peters walked away with the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater trophy and Jerry Mitchell received the Founders Award for Excellence in Directing during the ceremony, which was held at the Marriott Marquis Times Square.
The New York Drama League Awards celebrate the best in Broadway and Off Broadway and are voted for by the public.

U.S. TV bosses have confirmed reports Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will be returning to their spinning chairs for the fifth season of hit talent show The Voice.
Green announced he’d be juggling an ongoing residency in Las Vegas with his return last month, while sidekick Aguilera, who joined the Forget You singer in sitting out of the current fourth season of the show, has been rumored to be coming back for weeks.
And now Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC, has confirmed the news, stating, “We locked in a plan several months ago to have the outstanding Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green rejoin Blake (Shelton) and Adam (Levine)… and we’re pleased to announce that the original four coaches are going to be back together in the fall.
“They’re the reason this show was launched so strong for the first three cycles and we owe them a debt of gratitude.”
Telegdy has also confirmed that Shakira and Usher, who replaced Aguilera and Green this season, will be back next year.
He adds, “After careful consideration of everyone’s schedules for next spring, we are excited to be returning the current cycle of judges – Shakira and Usher along with Blake and Adam – for cycle 6, which will premiere after the Winter Olympics.”
Shakira announced she’d be stepping down from the show earlier this week to spend more time with her family and record a new solo album.

Man Arrested After Gun Scare At Cannes Film Festival

A man has been arrested at the Cannes Film Festival in France after allegedly firing a gun and brandishing a fake grenade near a waterfront TV studio on Friday.
The suspect’s weapon was filled with blanks, but the incident was enough to cause a big scare on the Croisette seafront, where crowds had gathered to watch hosts from French channel Canal + present special festival coverage.
No one was injured in the sick stunt and police were quick to tackle the man to the ground before arresting the assailant, who has so far only been identified as a 42-year-old male, reports AFP.
Broadcasts resumed after a short break and presenter Michel Denisot detailed the safety threat to viewers, saying, “He said to a woman next to him, ‘If I were you, I wouldn’t stick around here…’ The police intervened. He had a hand grenade. There were no bullets in the gun and the grenade was a fake.”
The news comes just hours after it was revealed that a Chopard jewelry collection worth $1 million had been stolen from an employee’s hotel room in Cannes. The Swiss gems were intended to be worn by stars attending the prestigious film festival.
