As announced by Clemens Fritz that the head of professional and scouting football, Werder Bremen, Anthony Jung has extended his contract with the squad. Fritz said that Tony has been the primary player for them from the very beginning. He has been able to live up to the expectation both on and off the pitch and they are happy that he is sticking to the team.

According to him, he is a regular player and has been able to strengthen his place on the left-hand side and he plays an important role for the team. However, Fritz did not reveal the contract details.

Anthony Jung had become a part of Werder in the summer of 2021 from Copenhagen’s Brondby IF and had expressed his thrill about his future with the club. He had stated that it had been a thrilling and successful time with Werder Bremen since he made a move from Denmark. According to him, the club has a good lineup and everything is right.

Jung mentioned that his family and he also feel at home in the city and thus, he is pleased to continue with the club. The footballer has two DFB-Pokal and 21 Bundesliga appearances under his hood and Jung become an important part of the defense of Werder. The extension of his contract ensures that the club will keep benefitting from his experience and skills in the upcoming season.

Fritz added that they are extremely happy to have secured the services of Anthony Jung for the time to come. He has already proven to be a significant member of the team and they looked forward to seeing him keep thriving in the time to come. So, it is now to be seen how Anthony Jung is going to do in his second tenure with the club.

Bremen have not recorded a win in the league since the 2-0 away win over VFL Bochum at the start of this month. In their next league game, they were beaten by Augsburg via a 1-0 scoreline. Bosnian forward ErmedinDemirovic scored the only goal of the game three minutes on the other side of the hour mark.

Werder Bremen bounced back from the home defeat at the hands of Augsburg with the impressive 1-1 draw at the home of Champions League team Bayer Leverkusen. Swiss defender Milos Veljkovic scored the equaliser for Bremen after German midfielder KeremDemirbay had given Leverkusen the lead in the second half. The opener arrived on 57 minutes and it lasted for almost half of an hour before Veljkovic levelled proceedings for the home team.

After seven games in the German Bundesliga this season, Werder Bremen have nine points. The newly promoted Bundesliga giants have a record of two wins, three draws and two defeats. They are three points off opponents Borussia Moenchengladbach in sixth spot which will guarantee a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Gladbach have won three, drawn three and lost just one of their opening seven games in the German Bundesliga this season.

Significantly, Werder Bremen are four points ahead of VfB Stuttgart who are in the relegation playoff spot. Stuttgart are third from bottom on the current German Bundesliga log.

In addition to getting a second straight league win, Bremen can also extend their unbeaten start to the season against Frankfurt. They have not lost any of their three games in the German Bundesliga since they were promoted.

Werder Bremen right-back Weiser had scored twice in 24 appearances in German Bundesliga II on the back of joining the club as a Bayer Leverkusen loanee. He played his part as Bremen secured promotion to the German Bundesliga at the end of last season. In total, he has four goals in 37 German Bundesliga II games. In the German Bundesliga, the experienced defender has nine goals in 140 games.

In his professional football career, Weiser has played for the likes of FC Koln, Kaiserslautern, Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munich in addition to Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen.

On signing for Werder Bremen permanently, Weiser said he felt right at home at the club when he joined on loan last season. He added that he’s delighted to be able to continue playing for Bremen for a long time. Speaking further, the defender said it was special with the Bremen fans in the German Bundesliga II last season and he can’t wait to see how it would be in the top flight this season.

Werder Bremen manager Ole Werner said Weiser is a key part of his team on and off the pitch while speaking about his permanent transfer to the club. He told the club’s website that he’s delighted that the right-back has signed permanently.

2021/22 was the German club’s first season in the second tier for more than four decades and saw them win promotion with a second-place finish. Buchanan has been linked with a move away from Pride Park in the previous two windows – with East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest seeing bids rejected – and could be in line for a new contract as Chris Kirchner’s Derby takeover nears completion.

The England U21 international is a product of the Rams academy and has established himself as a first team regular over the past two seasons – making 75 appearances in total since his debut in 2019/20. Triggering the one-year extension in Buchanan’s contract keeps him tied down but is unlikely to stave off outside interest as clubs may feel that they can still sign the player for a cheap fee.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see a club like Werder Bremen interested as they prepare for their return to the Bundesliga. The 21-year-old looks to have a promising future but is likely part of Rooney’s immediate plans and you feel that the former England captain will want to keep him ahead of 2022/23 League One season. Whether that will be possible given his contract situation remains to be seen but the prospect of playing top flight football in Germany must appeal to him.

Hamburg are in a three-day fight with Werder Bremen and Darmstadt for the  second and final automatic promotion slot to the German Bundesliga from the German Bundesliga II. Hamburg had gone to second place ahead of Bremen with a 2-1 win at home to Hannover 96 on Saturday, while Darmstadt failed to take second place on Friday due to the 2-1 loss to hosts Dusseldorf with the two teams finishing the game with ten men.

Werder Bremen needed to beat Erzgebirge Aue in front of their fans to take second spot away from Hamburg and send them back to third position. Schalke 04 have not won the German Bundesliga II title, but they have already sealed promotion to the German Bundesliga after one season in the second tier of German club football. The other team to join Schalke 04 automatically is one of Darmstadt, Hamburg or Bremen ahead of the final set of matches in the division. The third team in Bundesliga II will take on third from bottom in the Bundesliga via the playoffs to determine who will stay in the German top flight or  gain promotion to the the German top flight.

For the Erzgebirge Aue game, Werder Bremen were boosted by the return of players like Omar Toprak, Christian Gross and Milos Veljkovic into the starting XI. Bremen made a poor start and were fortunate not to have been punished by their hosts. Bremen scored all their three goals in the second half with Marco Friedlgetting the opener on 49 minutes before two stoppage time goals from NiclasFullkrug and Niklas Schmidt sealed the win.

The game involving hosts Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen is the battle between the top two teams in the second tier of club football in Germany.Schalke are at the summit with 56 points from 30 games and they have two more points than Bremen ahead of their meeting on Saturday afternoon.

Werder Bremen manager Ole Werner confirmed that Veljkovic will miss the Schalke game after picking up a minor calf problem thereby joining Omer Toprak on the sidelines. The Werder Bremen boss also said that Christian Gross is a big doubt for the game with hosts Schalke 04 as the defender is currently suffering from cold. Also, Fabio Chiarodia will miss the Schalke clash due to national team duty. Chiarodia is on national team duty with one of the Italian youth teams. Chiarodia is currently at the Italian u-17 camp.

Ahead of the visit of Bremen, Schalke 04 are the form team in the German Bundesliga after winning their last five league matches. The run of five successive league wins has led them to open a two-point lead at the summit. A win over Werder Bremen will extend their lead at the top of the table and also take them closer to their target of promotion to the German top flight.All the teams in the German Bundesliga II have four games left to play starting from this weekend.

Schalke 04 will retain their place at the top of the table with at least a draw against Werder Bremen who will be without some of their key players.

German star Ozil has been an important player for Fenerbahce this season. The former Werder Bremen playmaker has an attacking return of nine goals and three assists for the Turkish Super League giantsin all competitions since the start of this season.

Ozil became a Fenerbahce player at the start of last year after he left North London giants Arsenal by mutual consent. His Gunners contract was cancelled with six months remaining paving the way for him to join Fenerbahce. Ozil had to forfeit the €7.9m owed him by Arsenal to sign for Fenerbahce. The former Werder Bremen player put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal until the end of the 2023/24 season when he signed for the Turkish Super League side.

2014 World Cup winner Ozil has grown to be an important player for Fenerbahce since his transfer during the 2020 winter transfer window until the announcement made by his club this week. He captained Fenerbahce in their last league game against Konyaspor last weekend before he was hauled off at the end of the first half. It was reported that the decision to remove him at the break infuriated Ozil thus leading to a spat with his manager.

Ozil was not the only one to question interim manager Ismail Kartan during the Turkish Super League clash with Konyaspor. Turkish international OzanTufan was also involved in a spat with him. Tufandidn’t start this season at Fenerbahce as he was on loan at Premier  League side Fenerbahce. He returned to Fenerbahce in February. In addition to ex-Werder Bremen star Ozil, Tufan was also excluded from the Fenerbahce first-team squad.

Southampton were given a dream start when former Tottenham Hotspur fullback Kyle Walker-Peters gave them the lead inside the first ten minutes with the outside of his right foot. Manchester City dominated proceedings from the blast of the whistle only for Southampton score to score from their first major foray into the Manchester City box. The goal from Walker-Peters came in the seventh minute after he was teed up by compatriot Nathan Redmond on the right side of the Saints attack. It was the first Southampton goal for the English right-back specialist.The stunning strike from Walker-Peters gave the Saints a slim lead over Manchester City at the break.

Manchester City fought their way back into the contest in the second half when their pressure on the Saints goal paid off from a setpiece delivered by Kevin De Bruyne and scored by French-born Spanish international Aymeric Laporte.

Southampton were able to keep City at bay for the remainder of the game on the back of the Laporte equaliser. Laporte was on the end of a bad challenge from Scotland international midfielder Stuart Armstrong in the second half and he might have been sent off on another day.

For Theo Walcott, he was on the Southampton bench for the whole game as the South Coast club stopped the run of 12 straight league wins for the Citizens.

There’s vacancy in the Werder Bremen dugout after Markus Anfangtendered his resignation letter on the back of the investigation into the use of a forged Covid vaccine certificate. To this effect, ex-Norwich City boss Farke has been seriously linked with the managerial vacancy in the media.

Daniel Farke could take over as the Werder Bremen manager a few weeks after he lost his job as the Norwich City manager in the Premier League. He was sacked by the Canaries shortly after masterminding a first win for the club. Farke was in the dugout as Norwich City recorded their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory at the home of fellow newcomers Brentford. Norwich City, Brentford and Watford are the three newly promoted teams in the Premier League this season. Norwich City secured their place in the English top flight by winning the Championship last season, while Watford sealed their own spot by finishing in second place. On their part, Brentford sealed a Premier League spot via the playoffs.

Anfang, 47, chose to resign from the post as the Werder Bremen manager due to the extreme stress caused by the investigation to allegations that he fitted a Covid vaccine certificate. German media outlets such as Die Zeitand DeichStube have stated that Farke is in the running to replace Anfang as the Werder Bremen manager.

Werder Bremen suffered demotion from the German Bundesliga at the end of last season and they have not made the desired start in the German Bundesliga II this season in their quest to secure promotion back to the Bundesliga. They are in ninth place on the Bundesliga II after recording five wins from the 14 league games played this season.
