As part of our commitment to the Wesfarmers Reconciliation Action Plan we are pleased to announce our first partnership

with an Australian Indigenous Minority Supplier Council business. The business we are working with is Aboriginal Steel Art www.aboriginalsteelart.com who is now a supplier of corporate gifts for our business as well as the supplier of the wonderful new piece of art for our Brisbane office shown in the picture above.

WESFARMERS RESOURCES SUPPORTS YOUNGCARE

Wesfarmers Resources Brisbane office has continued its matched giving program by supporting Youngcare during the month of April. Youngcare was established in 2005 following the inspirational story of one woman’s battle to find relevant and dignified care. There are currently 700,000 more young Australians being cared for at home by family and friends, often with limited support. Youngcare is committed to raising awareness of the issue across the nation so that we can drive change and create real choices for young Australians and their families.

Nominated by one of our employees the Brisbane staff donated $250 which was matched by the business resulting in a $500 donation being presented to Youngcare.

Wesfarmers Resources supports Mental Illness Fellowship

Wesfarmers Resources Brisbane office has continued its matched giving program in 2012 by supporting the Mental Illness Fellowship of Queensland. The Mental Illness Fellowship of Queensland is a specialist mental health organisation providing services across south and central Queensland with offices in Brisbane, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Northern Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.

Nominated by one of our employees Brisbane staff donated $455 which was matched by the business resulting in a $910 donation being presented to the CEO of the The Mental Illness Fellowship of Queensland Mr Tony Stevenson at an afternoon tea in our Brisbane office.

Wesfarmers named Sustainable Company of the Year

On 7 December 2011 Wesfarmers was named the Australian Sustainable Company of the Year at the annual Australian Sustainability Awards run by the Ethical Investor publication.

Finalists for the award included: AGL, Amcor, Fuji Xerox and National Australia Bank.

The judges found Wesfarmers to be responsive to engagement on issues of concern to the ethical investment sector. It also boasts a formal Ethical Sourcing Code, an extensive energy efficiency drive, sustainable packaging as well as a diverse and well-integrated community partnerships programs.

This award recognises Wesfarmers commitment to sustainability over many years.
