Weekend Round-Up: November 5th

Wessex Reserves recorded a good win against former Civil Service rivals Brandon Sports and the A Team battled hard against top of the table Broadwalk Reserves before conceding a number of late goals. Meanwhile the Wessex 1st Team game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Wessex Wanderers Reserves 3 v 2 Brandon Sports

The Reserves came from a goal down to beat former neighbour Brandon Sports 3 v 2 in an exciting encounter at the South Bristol Sports Centre. Goals from centre midfield pair Steve Webster and Steve Pocock (2) earned a much deserved victory which moves Wessex up into mid-table after a below par start to the season.

Reserve Team: P.Lewis, P.Hilling, S.Bebbington, B.Pocock, B.Hooper, C.Bartlett, S.Webster, S.Pocock, J.Swain, J.Carnevale, Chris. Subs: C.Bush, N.Jones, D.Hughes.

Broadwalk Reserves 8 v 2 Wessex Wanderers ‘A’

After earning their first point of the season last week the Wessex A Team fought bravely against top of the table Broadwalk Reserves. With 2 strikes from new boy Luke the visitors more than matched their opponents for 60 minutes of the game but a glut of late goals meant the final score wasn’t a true reflection of the match as a whole.

The Wessex 1st Team played out a goalless draw against Broad Plain and Reserves were hit for five against Glenside 5 OB Reserves. Meanwhile the A Team earned their first point of the season with a good display against Iron Acton.

Broad Plain House Reserves 0 v 0 Wessex Wanderers

Having beat their first team in the cup this season Wessex were hoping to collect 3 point against Broad Plain House Reserves, but the two teams played out a goalless draw.

1st Team: C.Bush, S.Bartlett, L.Dorgan, L.Flay, B.Pocock, J.Lewis, S.Smart, M.Snook, G.Russell, L.Webster, L.Perryman. Subs: S.Pocock.

Glenside 5 OB Reserves 5 v 1 Wessex Wanderers Reserves

Joe Swain scored a consolation goal as the Reserves went down 5 v 1 against a strong Glenside 5 OB Reserve team.

The Wessex A Team earned their first point of the season with a strong display against Iron Acton. The A’s twice came from behind with goals from Nick Blackmore and were unlucky not to go on and win the game.
