King's Croft - Wedding Photographer Wakefield

We started off Lisa and Steven's wedding photographs in Pontefract where the bride was preparing for the big day. Everyone was very calm and the house had a few great little features that allowed us to get a little creative with the wedding photography. The hall had a great mirror in which was in the perfect place to show a good reflection of the dress as it hung on the door. The next photo came as the sun broke out through the clouds and shone through the glass in the front door, which cast a magnificent pattern on the wooden flooring in the hall way so I had to work quickly and grabbed the shoes and photographed them next to the pattern. This is a photo we have never captured before as the opportunity has never been there before! After we had taken a few other detail and make up shots Lisa was ready in time to put the dress on before we left to meet the groom at church, which meant we could capture those great lacing up the back of the dress photographs.

We met Steven the groom and the ushers at the All Saints Church in Pontefract, near Wakefield. One of the most interesting churches from a wedding photography point of view as half of it is actually in ruin! We started on the guy shots as normal and after finishing these we went on to photograph the groom with his parents, but just as we were finishing off the groom's pre-wedding ceremony photos the call went up that the bride was about to arrive, nearly twenty minutes early! So the groom quickly hurried inside whilst we prepared to photograph the bride's arrival. As Lisa was so early we had a little time to take a few photos of Lisa with her dad and the wedding car.

After the wedding ceremony and the bride and groom had had time to greet their guests for the first time as a married couple, we got all of the guests with confetti together ready to throw over Lisa and Steven as they walked out of the ruined courtyard area at the entrance of the church. Whilst guests were leaving for the wedding reception venue, King's Croft Hotel, we decided to take advantage of the glorious weather and the ruins of the church with the bride and groom. We then walked back to the front of church with the bride and groom taking photos of the two of them along the way and then set off for the wedding photography session and drinks reception.

At King's Croft the bride and groom had a list of formal groups that we photographed during some of the drinks reception. We waited till after the meal and speeches were over to get the most intimate wedding photos of the day with just the bride and groom, we even managed to get into a field with the couple for some really special photos. The sun created some great rays of light over the field and a fluffy sky with a big sun in it added some real impact to the couple's wedding photographs.

Village Hotel - Leeds Wedding Photographer

It certainly is that busy time of year again with a pretty hectic last few weeks. Recently I have covered weddings all around Yorkshire with wedding venues including Walton Hall at Waterton Park in Wakefield, The Village Hotel in Leeds, Gomersall Lodge Hotel, Hazlewood Castle Hotel near York and Wortley Hall in Sheffield to name a few from just the last couple of weeks. As well as all this wedding photography around Yorkshire I also had the pleasure of being asked for another time to photograph The Sarah Taylor School of Dance annual dance show, which takes place at the Frontier in Batley and is always a great show which seems to improve year on year.

My first blog post showcases the wedding of Claire and Stephen. We started off the day with bridal preparation photographs not far from the church. Claire was ready on time and so she got into the wedding dress whilst we were still at the house. This meant we were able to get those all important tying up the dress shots as well as all the usual detail photos. We then left Claire to finish getting ready and set off to the All Saints Church in Barwick-in-Elmet to meet the groom and groomsmen for their arriving at the church and pre-wedding ceremony shots. As always we took the time before the wedding ceremony to photograph the rings really close up! After these initial groom wedding photos it was a short wait for the brides arrival.

Claire arrived bang on time, pretty rare for a bride, I ensured we got a photo of the church clock to show this! We then took a few photos of Claire and her dad with the car and candidly walking down the church path before the start of the ceremony.

When the wedding ceremony had finished the couple had arranged to release two white doves, which always create great and very natural looking expressions in wedding photographs. After the doves had flown we arranged everybody together with confetti ready to throw over the bride and groom before leaving for the wedding reception venue in Leeds.

After a short drive we arrived at the reception venue, The Village Hotel in Leeds, for drinks and photos. A large group photo of everyone at the wedding was the first group shot on Claire's group list, we then moved on to the smaller groups and bridal party and the bride and grooms very special wedding photographs.

We finished in time for the bride and groom to go and see the wedding breakfast room before the guests went in the room and sat down this allowed them to check everything was just the way they wanted it. They were then able to carry on meeting and greeting any guests they haven't had time to speak to yet. Shortly after it was time for the wedding breakfast which was followed by speeches and a short break between the day and the evening reception. We always like to have a few short moments with the couple during this natural break in the day as they are often much more relaxed together as all the formalities are out of the way, they don't have to worry about the imminent wedding ceremony as they do earlier on in the day and the groom is no longer worried about doing his speech! The best couple's photos are taken during this time and of course Claire and Stephen were no exception. Once these shots were out of the way they greeted their evening guests before getting ready for their first dance.

Emma and Robert - Papakata Wedding Wakefield

This blog post is a bit different from previous posts as I've decided to include a wide selection of the shots from the wedding in a storyboard type layout, instead of just selecting a few of my favorites. I hope this will give you a better feel of the type of work we produce throughout the whole wedding day than previous posts.

The Jubilee weekend and the public holiday that followed was a very busy time for us here at Robert Alexander Photography. The weekend of the Jubilee celebrations and the week after were jam packed with weddings which were all great fun and very different from each other! I've decided to blog two weddings from the selection of wedding venues we had. The reason I've chosen to blog this first wedding is that they had the most amazing wedding venue, a Papakata wedding in the grounds of their grandparents and parents houses! It amazes me and is always a pleasant surprise that even after five years of photographing weddings, that so often we are asked to photograph weddings which are something completely different in some way, shape or form from what we have photographed previously.

The wedding day started off at the bride's parent's house under heavy skies which looked fairly ominous all day! The conservatory was to provide the perfect place and gorgeous light for our first photos of the day of the detail bits, bridal bouquet, shoes and of course the all important dress! After a few pre-wedding shots with the bride it was time to make our way to the church located just down the road where we were to photograph the groom and groomsmen! After a few shots with the guys we quickly let them get on with greeting the guests as they arrived and to start their ushering duties. After a few candid wedding photos of this and once everyone had been taken inside we waited for the bride in her gorgeous horse drawn carriage. The arch way entrance at the bottom of the church provided a great looking back drop to some photos of the bride and her father walking up the path to the church.

Inside the church, as agreed with the vicar, I positioned myself to photograph the wedding ceremony just behind the ornate wooden screen. The large apertures in the screen provided the perfect shooting location and a decent field of view, whilst allowing me to be very discrete.

After the wedding ceremony we took the bride and groom back inside the church to take advantage of the stunning interior. It was then on to the reception, the Papakata, where we completed Emma and Robert's group shots and then moved on to the bridal party, and special couple shots!

For those of you that don't know, as I didn't, a Papakata is a sort of teepee type tent structure. Without realizing it I had come across a Papakata before, they had one last year at the Great Yorkshire Show, which I attend annually, I remember it being quite a prominent feature even in amongst all the other trade stands and marquees there. So it really did look impressive situated on private land for a reception venue! It was beautifully decorated inside and even featured a sitting area, which consisted of comfy bean bags, sofas and long benches covered in animal furs! The focus of the seating area was a log fire, which really finished off the whole atmosphere and feel of the Papakata! It was also a necessary feature as the temperature dropped outside as darkness began to fall.

During the gap between the speeches and the arrival of the evening guests we quickly went back outside in between the heavy rain showers, which had been going on all throughout the meal (the best time for it to rain at a wedding!). We didn't go too far and we ensured that the couple had one of our white umbrellas to keep any drizzle off! This allowed us to get the gorgeous shot of them as can be seen below up in the trees on a balcony with the brolly, my favorite shot of the whole day!
